After putting it off for a couple of decades the stars aligned and I made it to Sun N Fun.
The campground was a pleasant surprise. The bathrooms and shower facilities were all clean like brand new, and I had arrived near the end of the week.
Right away after parking I was able to sign up and get fuel and oil. The FBO staff are top of the line and even hung up one of our Cessna 150152 Club fliers for me.
You can see that I have a huge tarp as I had read about the fire ants and didn't want anything to do with that kind of trouble, including the poison or whatever that has been used to keep the ants at bay. I did see a few ants but no bites and none came home with me. Big thumbs up on that one.
The Island where there are services like a store, restaurants, and a big area to just sit and talk with the other pilots was very nice. The people were all friendly. The pizza and salad fresh and very good. I highly recommend the camping experience...

No maps provided to help navigate to campsites. It could be a really great off season location to tent in Lakeland and has good proximity to Carter Road. It seems like the lack of picnic tables, unlocked shower buildings, portalets instead of bathrooms, (almost didn't get a portalet) and no fire rings at sites are all to discourage return tent visitors. I liked the oak canopy in Shower Area D and the Amazon planes do stop taking off after 9:00 pm. Tent fees are not justified for what Sun N Fun provides. Lost opportunity when it comes to...
Read moreHere with our camper for Sun n Fun 2025! Nice shower houses, but only porta-pots. Thankfully they were plentiful and cleaned regularly. We were in over-flow camping area which had obviously recently been a cow pasture. Bring tools to remove cow patties. How hard would it be to hire a local farmer to spray Taurus prior to the event? Fire ants are literally a pain. By the end of the week they had found their way inside our RV! One more thing– for some reason one-wheels and motorized scooters etc are banned but electric bikes and golf carts are allowed. 😒 We had a great time,...
