Incredible Views. I always wanted to visit Berkshires and Mt. Greylock was the cherry on top. We drove up from the visitors center to the very top and climbed the tower. It was beyond amazing. I could sit up there for days just looking down at the town (I believe it's Adams) below. It felt like I was in a foreign land. I am from Eastern Massachusetts and I have been as far west as Greenfield but I've never ventured any further than that. We took the Mohawk Trail over to North Adams then stayed in Pittsfield. We left the next day and climbed the mountain. We stopped along the way to check out some of the views on the way up but nothing was like the view from the top. We climbed the tower which was amazing, then stayed and looked at the view for a little while longer before heading back home. I highly recommend taking the trip. To anyone, even people in the area it's a must see. If you're from Eastern MA like me, and have never seen it; or another state entirely, it's an experience you don't...

Great hiking but not alot of high mountian views along the path. If your goal is to hike to the summit, definitely plan on a sunny day in order to get the great 90 some mile view from the top. We parked at CC Dynamite trail head (roughly 5 miles north of the visitor center), crossed the road, went down Sperry Road and linked up with Hopper Trail. Hiked Hopper Trail to the A.T. and to the summit from there. The trail itself has a lot of rocks, and it had recently rained so some of them were a little slippery and some of the trail was sloshy. Definitely recommend hiking boots, water and as with any mountain hike, bring a jacket as the weather did change on us.The closer we got to the summit, the foggier (and colder) it got. Unfortunately we chose a cloudy day and there was too much fog and mist for us to see anything once we hit the summit. Not to mention Bascom...

Here's the thing. I'm sure Mount Greylock is great. We went to the visitor center at the bottom of the mountain and not a single person mentioned the top was full. As a matter of fact all we saw were cars coming down the mountains. We thought this was good for us. So we drove the winding 8 miles to the top only to have a guy in an orange vest wave us off. So we had to go back down the mountain, but not the way we came up. So we ended up on North Adams and had to drive around the mountain to get back. Anyway, I'm sure the mountain has breathtaking views, but I wouldn't know since I never got there. The 1 star is for the lack of communication from the visitor...

Riding around absorbing&relishing freedom from care we revisited Mt. Greylock. The weather was as opposed as possible to our previous stop. The name Greylock is from an early 18th-century Waranoke Indian chief, made of steely gray Quincy granite. Thoreau once hiked up and camped amongst the scattered boards/materials from a wooden watch tower built by students from Hunter College. I wondered if he watched ants battle at nearly 4000 ft elevation haha. Today, the 12,500-acre Mt. Greylock reservation is managed and operated by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.
