The campground is situated on the western slope that drops down into the city. It’s located a few blocks north of I-10, so there’s some road noise but not enough to be noticeable inside the RV. The road into the campground and up to the office is a bit steep but short. The campground as a whole is slightly sloped, with the back of the campground higher than the front. Even though our site (site 59) had us perpendicular to the slope, it was pretty level side-to-side. All of the RV sites have gravel surfaces, with concrete strips for you to park your tires on (although the office told us we could park anywhere in the site as long as we didn’t stick out onto the roads, which are all paved). Our site was long enough that we could have stayed hooked up and still had plenty of room to spare, and while most of the sites weren’t quite as long many of them are big-rig friendly. The regular sites have picnic tables and some have an adjacent tree: none of them have leaves while we were there so I can’t speak to the kind of shade they provide. In terms of a view, the best sites are the ones on the eastern side of the park, which have a great view of the city below and the mountains beyond: a number of those sites are designated as both pull-in or back-in sites, depending on your preference. All residents of the campground can get a similar unobstructed view from the communal firepit located at the northeast corner of the campground, accessible via a short walking path. The mountains glow in red and purple hues at sunset. The enclosed dog park is larger than average, with an airlock-style gate and several benches to sit on, with two benches located under a large pergola. Most of the park surface is sandy dirt with some gravel, but there is a rectangle of sod in the middle for those dogs that just have to have some grass. There are solar-powered lights attached to the fencing at regular intervals, which provided decent lighting at night until they run out of juice (though the lights from the office ensure the park is never completely dark). The dog park and the aforementioned walking path are really the only decent places to walk dogs within the campground, though it wasn’t an issue for us during our 6-day stay. In terms of cell service, the best speed I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna was 7Mbps down and 13 up, but other than occasional buffering we didn’t have any issues streaming in the evening. I did experience the occasional drop and slowdown on Verizon during my workday, most noticeably when I was on a video call, but when that happened I could switch over to the free campground WiFi, which I clocked at 20Mbps down and 2 up. The best speed I got on my AT&T smartphone was 28Mbps down and 16 up. Overall, this is a pretty nice, clean campground. The only negative that comes to mind is that the dump station has no hose, but maybe they don’t feel a need for it given there are only 4 sites without sewer hookups. We would stay here again if we were in the area.

It a very nice little KOA. There is pretty much a complete selection of camping/glamping available. The shop and employees were friendly and helpful regarding their facilities. The spaces are groomed after every visitor as well as the other gravel areas. There are back in spaces that do offer views of the city and beautiful sunsets of the Organ Mountains. IF you don’t get one, there is a walk way to the wall overlooking the same. K-9 area is near the entrance and dirt. The water valve handles had half the handle broken off making it somewhat difficult to turn on or off. In the back in spaces, the power, water, and sewer for you and your neighbor are side by side. We had to use 2 or 3 sewer lines (We backed in closer to the wall.) and 2 power cables. Our water was up front, so we only needed a single hose. The shower/restroom was clean, but dated. The park is about a mile off I-10, so it’s convenient. IF you’re there for a while before the ‘monsoons’. Drive across the Rio Grande on US70, Then cross it north and south of the US70. The river actually goes underground as it passes this location. There’s water both north and south of the bridge. IF we come back to visit, we’d probably like to stay here again.

Our recent stay at the Las Cruces KOA in New Mexico left us thoroughly impressed, making it one of our favorite KOA parks nationwide. Despite its size, this small but charming park is filled with thoughtful upgrades that enhance the overall camping experience.

Nestled on a hill overlooking a breathtaking mountain range, Las Cruces KOA offers a picturesque setting for campers. The scenic beauty of the surroundings adds to the charm of this hidden gem in the Southwest.

We opted for site 103, conveniently located close to the office. The owners' attention to detail is evident throughout the park. The sites are level, and the water hookups are reliable. Our stay was made even more enjoyable by the strong and reliable WiFi, a crucial amenity for modern travelers.

The recent remodel of the bathrooms reflects the owners' commitment to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and aesthetics. The tasteful decorations throughout the park, especially the beautifully adorned office and store with Christmas decorations during our visit, created a festive and welcoming atmosphere.

Impeccable customer service is a hallmark of the Las Cruces KOA. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel welcome and cared for. Our interactions with the team were always positive, and their commitment to creating a pleasant experience was evident.

Beyond the basics, Las Cruces KOA offers additional amenities that set it apart. The park features a playground for families, a dog park for our furry friends, and a thoughtful touch—a dog washing station. These extras added to the overall convenience and enjoyment of our stay.

For a more detailed look at our experience, be sure to check out our video review on YouTube at Nomad Nesters. Don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel for more insights into our travels.

In conclusion, Las Cruces KOA exceeded our expectations and has secured its place as one of our favorite KOA parks in the country. From the stunning scenery and well-maintained facilities to the warm and attentive customer service, every aspect of our stay was exceptional. We highly recommend Las Cruces KOA to fellow travelers and look forward to returning in the future.

Visit again: Yes! We actually did return just 3 days later on our way back east.

Campground Impression: Sits atop a bluff with FANTASTIC views of the mountains at a distance. Mostly big rigs & 5th wheels.. Great stop over campground. However, we'd like to go back to explore the area more. The grounds are excellent. The stone walls really makes this place a wow factor.

Side note: the tent camping was the neatest we've ever seen with smooth natural surface. Dumpster easy to access yet hidden from plan site. Attention to design is obvious.

Felt safe: yes.

Site surface (condition/leveling/material): 1st visit we had a pull-thru gravel with a 2-strip concrete parking area, bit tricky to get onto the concrete but necessary given the terrain of campground. 2nd visit was an all gravel back-in, it was excellent.

Spacing between sites: 1st site, not bad for just a one night stay. 2nd site, perfect! Could have put a 2nd rig next to us.

Views: some sites have direct views of the mountains in the distance but anyone can walk the short scenic path to the long stone wall or the gazebos to see them, too. Not a bad view from anywhere

Sewer/Electric/Water conditions: easy, clean & working order. Pull-thru was a bit tight between to get around the lines.

Noise: campground & road noise are non-existent. Yet the entire place was full.

Staff: Extremely nice. I have broken bones in my foot and asked for an easier site on our 2nd trip so I could maneuver easier. They literally provided the best site. Made my trip.

GPS accuracy: Easy and accurate

Campground roads: wide main roads. The pull-thru a bit tight. 2nd visit with back-in was perfect, no obstacles (such as trees, ditches or rocks).

Vehicle parking at site: Pull-thru was tight but neighbors worked together to shift trucks when coming or going. 2nd visit back-in allowed us to stayed hooked up to our truck, lots of room and helpful given my foot situation!

Reason for visit: 1st visit was driving through west for the holidays in Tucson. 2nd visit was our drive back home to the east coast.

Note: see photos below of tent camping sites & new...
