Honestly worst location I have ever gone camping! The fact that it is rated 4.7 id assume its from people who live near by and have never gone camping in MI or WI or probably anywhere but IL! Nothing to do around the area, no where to swim outside of their crappy little pool! Closest "swimmable" lake is 45 min away! Do not let google fool you about there being something closer! Or that the hikes are rated 4.7 stars, again or this campground! It's in the middle of a terrible city and it's just not camping! They make it look like there is a ton to do when you look it up but there isn't! The pool at the site is way too small for the amount of guests and looked gross! It was almost 100° out and no where to cool off! They tried to charge us $15 to check in 1 hour early when no one had even been on the site the days prior! And the fact that they charge $40+ a night for a tent site with nothing to do in the area was outrageous! Our whole group ended up leaving a full day/night early because there was nothing around, it was so hot and the only hikes you can go on are NOT what they advertise in the pictures! Do not fall for this place if you are someone who truly likes camping and not sitting on an open site with nothing but RVs and nasty pools as your views. Oh and wood is $7 a bundle but it burns up in less than an hour, they rent you stuff but it's overpriced. I would never go back and honestly so sad we spent $160 on 2 campsites for 2 days! Never trust google reviews because some people just do not get out much or know what a real 4.7 star place looks...
Read moreWe do really like this place, and it seems like they have made some updates since we were there last year which are nice. Last week was our third time visiting from Wed to Fri and they decided on Thurs to cut the grass in between the sites, including ours, just as we were leaving to spend the day at Starved Rock & Matthiessen State Park, thus blowing grass and dirt/dust at us while loading our car to go. We came back to our concrete site all covered in grass clippings, including our chairs, and had to subsequently clean it up before tracking it all into our RV. Not only that, but we had our dog with us, a white dog ta-boot. Although we cleaned it up off the concrete site and our chairs, of course loose clippings were still in the grass itself which eventually found its way into our RV anyway. Shouldn't the grass have been cut long before we got there, knowing you had guests coming, or even after we left, and not while we are still there? My husband went into the office to let them know what happened and how we felt and while they offered a simple apology, they did not ask who he was, what site we were at, or anything else identifying about us. Why, didn't they care about the situation or how we felt? We understand maintenance has to be done, but it could have been done in a more methodical way without disturbing your guests, in our opinion. We were at site E5 from 9/24-9/26, if you...
Read moreI had stayed here a couple times before in previous year, and always had a good experience. I went again recently and had a different experience. At first the staff was very sweet and helpful. We did tent camping, and they were doing some kind of construction that went throughout the entire day, and took away from the peace and quiet of nature that we were expecting. It was LOUD. All we heard was trucks and machines during the day for TWO DAYS straight. We ended up getting totally rained out the night before checking out. Needless to say, packing up, took longer than expected, since everything was completely soaked. I got a call from the front desk telling us we needed to hurry up and get going and give us a grace period, understanding that we had been down-poured on and packing up would take us longer. We got everything out of the campsite and were in the parking lot packing up the car - I even called the front desk to let them know that we were out of there. She said, ‘okay.’ And nothing else. I just got my credit card statement, and even though they said they were going to give us a grace period due to the thunderstorm, I was still charged a late fee of $15. If you were going to charge us the late fee anyways, I’m not sure why you were rushing us. It really did not sit well with my spirit and I do not appreciate not communicating that they were still...
