Stayed: October 24-27, 2024 My wife and I stayed here for my sister's wedding (not being held here) along with two of my other sisters and their spouses (in their own rooms). None in our group had pets and we (my wife and I) never heard or saw any.
Room 144 (first room, king size) The floor above us creaked so bad we got less than 5 hours of sleep our first night. Please keep in mind we knew exactly who was above us (one of my sisters) and they were not stomping, the wood is old and noisy. The room had a Murphy bed which was low to the ground and had a thick layer of dust on it's headboard (as if it had never been cleaned, should have taken pictures). There was debris scattered in the back corners, like white bits of paper or paint bits and dead bugs in the light fixtures. There was one USB bank. (Nit-pick - Pretty sure the toilet was made for giants, I'm 6' 4").
The next morning (October 25) I went to the front desk and let the attendant know about the creaking floors and our lack of sleep, she said she would speak with her manager and see what she could do. We had a full day of wedding activities to attend to and later found nothing had been said. We spoke with the new attendant and got a new room.
Room 240 (second room, king size) There were no USB plugs in this room. We were given our old room key-card back to take the USB bank from there. There were dead bugs smashed into the walls, ceiling, and light fixtures. The faucet in the shower spewed water all over when trying to shower and the tub constantly filled up. My wife found a nail sticking up out of the floor (well her foot did), just outside of the bathroom door. We notified the front desk about the issues.
Room Layout - Both rooms - If someone opens the door and you are on the bed or in the bathroom and someone happens to walk by in the hall, be sure to smile and wave. The bed is visible directly through the room entry and the mirror is "smartly" placed in the bathroom.
October 27 our key-cards stopped working at 10am, check out is at 11am. We were told, by the front desk attendant, that this is normal procedure. (My wife and I have stayed in quite a few hotels during our travels; our key-cards never stopped working before we checked out.) Thankfully we ate breakfast in our room. We realized they stopped working when I went to get a luggage cart (there were none, they only have 2), it had just turned 10am and I couldn't get back into the room.
My sister who stayed above me (room 242, before we got moved) reserved a king size room (booked over a month in advance), was given a queen. The front desk told them they had no rooms to move them. There was hair in the shower and garbage on the bathroom floor as well, gross.
My other sister (room 123) also regrets staying here. The walls were paper thin and they were supposed to get a pullout couch; they were told none were available (despite being booked over a month in advance). The worst part was her room's toilet constantly backing up; maintenance had to be called multiple times. The last time maintenance showed, they told her it was a more complicated issue and she should move rooms because they don't work weekends. They never moved her and she suffered the whole weekend.
"Complimentary" breakfast - We grabbed breakfast around 8am Friday - Sunday (breakfast is served 7-9 weekdays 7-10 weekends). The food was horrible. Nothing we had was fresh. The scrambled eggs had a crust, the ends of the bacon were so hard we equated the texture to popcorn kernels (kernels would have been softer), the sausage was akin to chalk, the pancakes were tough and chewy, honeydew and cantaloupe were slimy and the home-fries appeared overcooked (dark) and yet under-cooked (raw and crunchy middle).
Overall: This was a horrible experience for all of us. This place is only 4 star for the amenities and grounds. Do NOT stay here. 4 of 4 different rooms were far below even the most basic of cleanliness. We chose The Chauncey due to all the raving reviews, I wish we could have stayed at that version...
Read moreI stayed at the Chauncey Center for a business trip to ETS August 28th- August 31st. My 4 colleagues and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience with both the staff and the accommodations. We were welcomed by Micah and our check in experience was seamless. He offered us infused water and gave us some info on our available dining options, both on-site and in nearby Princeton. Ms. Jocelyn ALWAYS had a smile in greeting and was so helpful and patient with our questions. One evening, I asked Mr. Judson about the bike trails as myself an one of my colleagues wanted to do an early morning ride (the grounds are BEAUTIFUL) and he made sure that we the bikes were ready for us in the morning (Note: the hotel only has 2 bikes). One night we needed to make a run to the store, and LaMiyah (sp) asked Frinz to bring us and he actually stayed later to drive us to the store. This was ABOVE and BEYOND normal customer service. This man was off from work and drove us to the store!!! One night, he also gave us 30 extra minutes in the AMAZING indoor saltwater pool, as we had gotten in late and wanted to have a working meeting while we swam. Also, on another day, when we went into Princeton for dinner and a visit to the ice cream shop, we asked Frinz if he could pick us up for 9pm, he was 10 minutes early. We ate their DELICIOUS breakfast each morning of our stay, and both the food and service was IMPECCABLE. I cannot remember the name of the lady who worked the omelet station, but she was the absolute sweetest (she also made some mean omelets!!!). Their breakfast spread was fresh and had a variety for every palate. The servers were friendly and made our dining experience even more enjoyable. I would DEFINITELY stay here again just for the service. The rooms were decent, but the staff put the icing on the cake. If you go, make sure to take the bike trails one morning and see the beautiful...
Read moreThe Chauncey was the location for my son's wedding. Absolutely better than I could have imagined. To start, Rebecca the wedding coordinator is outstanding. She handled everything from start to finish. She was easy to access and was able to change things as needed on the spot. Her staff also great from setting up to breaking down..They even took careful concern to box up all of our wedding centerpieces. |The Laurie house is an absolute must if you are having your wedding here. It was a great place for the wedding party to stay and it gave us full access to the grounds to allow the wedding to spill out onto the grassy area for corn hole and fire pit. Having the house was super convenient for rehearsal dinner and for prepping the day of the wedding, |The food at the wedding was great. Large portions for a wedding. Cocktail hour ran smoothly with plenty of food. |The DJ has to set up on a side stage so the speakers were set back from the dance floor--it definitely was difficult for people seated on that side to hear (especially with hearing aids). I honestly think that is the only downfall from the reception.|We did host rehearsal dinner here. We opted for the casual barbecue. There was another wedding going on and I think that impacted the staff and food for us. The food for the dinner was all cold -but there wasn't really anyway to correct it--it was what it was.|The actual staff at the hotel were super kind and considerate. I did get some negative feedback from guests when they called the hotel from whoever was answering the phones but nothing at the hotel itself. They offer a full breakfast (eggs, bacon. sausage. fruit, yogurt--everything)--and I think there were snacks in the afternoon. The rooms were pretty standard but comfortable-no issues. The hotel does allow pets so you could potentially run...
