We are flight attendants for a legacy airline & travel extensively both for work and leisure. We each stay in hotels over 150 nights every year.
There were both good and bad things about this hotel, but I think the negatives outweigh the positives.
First the good:
The bad:
There was lots of seaweed/sargassum along the water edge. It does not smell good, and is especially stinky by the bike/kayak rental shack which our room overlooked. It is not pleasant to look at either.
There is no beach access to the gulf (the man-made beach area is raised up off the water & has a wall of rock built at the edge of the water). I wouldn't swim in the water anyway, due to the smelly, green gross stuff all along the water's edge.
The air conditioner in the room had a difficult time maintaining the room temperature. It was blowing hard and freezing cold when it was running, and then the room got warm and sticky before it came back on.
4). The bed was a king, but the top sheet they used was a queen & barely covered the bed to the edge of the top of the mattress (zero overhang). We took it off & turned it sideways which was better, but not good. The pillows were lumpy and not very comfortable.
The office closes at 10pm & there's no way to resolve any issues after that time (like the bed sheet issue).
The elevator was frightening. We brought our luggage up to the room using the elevator. It made so much noise and clunked & jerked us about, we declined to use it again. We were up 2 flights of stairs. We also noticed during our disconcerting elevator ride that the inspection certificate was very expired.
Personal safety was an issue at this hotel because the door to the room did not have proper safety features. There is no peephole, so you cannot see who is at the door (no windows on that side of the room). There is no manual lock on the door for security (like a chain, or a sliding pin, or any type of device that you flip to prevent the door from being opened). The hinges are on the outside of the door to the room so the door opens out to the walkway, not in to the room. Because this property is set up like a motel where all the doors to the rooms are outside facing the parking lot and there are no interior hallways, it is especially important to have proper security on the door to the room. I would never stay in a room lacking so many security features if I was alone. I still felt uneasy even with my husband with me.
The floor in the room looked nice, but was actually quite dirty. After my shower, I walked barefoot from the bathroom to the bed twice & noticed that my feet were feeling gritty. They were blackened by the...
The only reason I gave rooms a 4 was because it had a lot of carpenter ants all on the ground and under the bed. I believe the room just hadn’t been used since it was last cleaned and with construction for improvements going on, I understand this can happen. They were all dead but for sure needed to be swept up. I called front desk and they sent someone right away and it was perfect after that!
They knew we were celebrating a birthday and they set up some Happy Birthday decorations and gave us a mini Key Lime pie with a birthday candle and noise makers and some bead necklaces!! It was a wonderful surprise and we loved it, kids ate the whole thing!
The room for us was on second floor 128A facing the water with vaulted ceilings double beds, had a microwave, mini fridge, and counter set up for coffee with plates and paper towels and bottled water. It had a small open closet space with hangers and iron. The bathroom was clean and had two shower head options, my youngest was in there forever bc he said he had to shower with both showers lol.
So we had an amazing experience, I almost didn’t want to write a review bc I don’t want this place to get booked up whenever we want to return! The service is great, I even forgot my journal and wallet in the drawer of nightstand and when I called worried, Andrea put me on hold and Ran to the room and got it for me and said she would hold it until we returned from Key West! I had cash and credit cards and it was all there with my travel journal when we made it back to pick it up! Sharon was super nice when we checked in and gave us a parking spot so we can use facilities until we could check into the room. She even got us in early! She showed us a map of other properties for us to use their pools or things. We rode bikes around to other properties and enjoyed their pool and round lounge couches! Terry was also very accommodating and such a kind demeanor.
We didn’t get to do the free yoga because it’s only offered certain days, but they allow you to use mats for personal yoga if needed. They have bikes to use with helmets, kayaks, paddle boards, with life vests. They have a dock to fish. The pool is right along the water with plenty of chairs and umbrellas for shade. They have a giant chess board you can play along water. They have lots of hammocks. Beautiful Sunset!! And it’s well lit up at night!
We had a lovely time, the kids loved it and we quite enjoyed it too! Even the Nespresso was delicious in the guest area of check in!
The Florida Boys bar and Grill which is on property but not part of hotel is really good too! Try the conch fritters and tropical mahi bites!! Yum!!
We will be back for sure! We almost didn’t stay here bc I wanted to save money but my son picked the hotel based on reviews and wanting to fish off a dock and kayak. Of course fees and taxes make everything more expensive so it was originally more than I wanted to spend but you only turn 14 once! And honestly it was well worth it and I will save money just to stay here again.
Also the weather said 70% chance of rain and it ended up being the most most beautiful day!! No rain!! So blessed!
Thanks again Lime Tree Bay Resort, we...
Read moreWhen I am staying somewhere I've never been I do A LOT of research. I knew we didn't want to stay in Key West but wanted to visit Key West. I also knew I wanted to fly into Miami, rent a Jeep and explore all of the Keys. After tons of research I landed on Lime Tree Bay Resort in the middle keys (Layton/Long Key). Reviews were good and I liked everything I saw. You hope a place is going to live up to your expectations. Lime Tree Bay Resort exceeded them. It was exactly what I had hoped and what I was looking for. It's not all inclusive and it's not the swankiest resort in all of the Keys but we absolutely loved it and would/will return. Some of the negative reviews here are mostly due because people don't do their research which isn't fair to the resort. No, Long Key isn't the most happening of the Keys with loads of stuff to do or places to eat...BUT...it's quiet and I loved it and it's not far from any of that. I know everyone has different objectives for a vacation, thats why you need to do your research. I think this is an excellent location situated right in between Islamorada and Marathon, both of which we enjoyed. Loads of great restaurants in either town. You're about 45 minutes from Key Largo and about an hour and 1/2 from Key West. This is exactly what we wanted. We stayed in a Premium Ocean Front King and we were not disappointed at all. We had BEAUTIFUL views of the water from our private balcony. The room was plenty spacious, the bathroom was also nice, spacious, large shower, and everything was very clean and comfortable. Zero complaints. Check-in is at 4 but our room was ready and they let us in the room early. If you get there early and your room isn't ready you have full access to the resort property. All the staff we interacted with was great. Check-in was a breeze. We enjoyed the beach furniture, hammocks, and amazing sunset views. We also really enjoyed the kayaks at no additional cost. Also included is paddle boards, bikes, tennis, a nice pool, pickle ball and probably more we didn't take advantage of. We also had a dedicated parking space which was very nice. The pool is heated and clean which was great. The included for free breakfast is pastries, fruit, cereal, stuff like that. The pastries were fresh and tasty. For a cost you can get hot breakfast items. I want to give an extra shout out to The Florida Boy Grill which is the restaurant on property. We ate there a couple of times and also had drinks and all of our food was always really good. Both times everyone was really happy with everything including the excellent and friendly service. The servers are super friendly and fun and make you feel very welcome. I'll end with saying one nice little touch was that it was our anniversary. I booked so long ago I forgot I may have mentioned that...well they didn't forget. When we got in our room they had decorated our bed with a heart made of towels and flowers. Thank you to the staff of LTB resort! We...
