This hike to the old Interlaken Resort was recommended to us by the workers at Twin Lakes Inn. It was our first hike in Colorado and it did not disappoint. It is hard not to take in the historical value and wonder of what this place used to represent. They have done a tremendous job of renovating a place that holds a special place in history. I particularly was impressed with the cleanliness of the area. Far too often we come across landmarks such as this and tourist do not understand the value of preservation.    Read moreThis is a great ghost town hike. Please note: this is currently mis-categorized as an actual resort on Google, but has been abandoned for a century. From the West trailhead, it's about 4 miles to the first structure. Rolling trail with a few longer climbs. The interior of Dexter House is very nicely restored, and worth visiting. No other structures are currently open. Great area year-round. The road to the trailhead is generally clear in winter, and this is an excellent snowshoe spot, though the resort is a more ambitious goal in deep snow, and Dexter house is closed up...

Nice little hike with almost no elevation climbing, except just some ups and down, since your essentially just walking around the lake. The hike (and back) took us four hours, taking our time and eating our packed lunch...
