I can honestly say this is the worst camping experience I can remember in 50 years of camping. The campground is clean, well-maintained, with nice sites. The owners, they ruined the weekend. They are unfriendly and unwelcoming. We were being watched the whole time we were there, the owner said as much.
Each year my family tries a new campground together. I went with my mother, brother and sister-in-law, my sister and brother-in-law, and 6 of our kids and our two dogs.
We arrived at 8pm on Friday night. My wife had called and said we would be there around 8 and the owner, Peggy, said no problem, text me when you get here and I will meet you at the office to check you in. The campground is at the end of a partially dirt road. I arrived, my wife and I got out of our cars and we were greeted by Peggy, who was sitting outside, with, "You were bookin it down that street!". I said, "I was?". She said, "Yeah, you brought a cloud of dust with you!". This was in the middle of the parking lot with other people around, not very welcoming.
We go into to check in, which is where Peggy should have addressed my speed, if needed, not in front of everyone. During the check in process 3 of my 6 kids came in to check out the store. Peggy says, "Who is the third child, you only get 2 per site?" My wife and i said the third one was staying with my mother in the cabin, and then she grilled us on where all the kids were staying. She told us to come back the next morning to let her know where all the kids were staying since they would be staying with my brother, sister, and mother. No problem.
We get to our site. It's only got 50 amp service and we are 30 amp. Not having run into this before, we had no adapter. Usually if there is 50 amp there is 30 as well. My brother and sister had both at their sites. My wife texted Peggy and she nicely brought an adapter and followed it up with, "That is mine, I need it back tomorrow but you can buy an adapter when the store opens tomorrow". That night we had a fire at my sister's site, which was across from mine. One of my neighbors came across to tell us our fire was to big. I am pretty sure he was seasonal. The next night a different seasonal camper had a fire that was easily 2' higher than ours and nothing was said. It is uploaded below.
The next day I went to the bathroom, which are very nice. They are very new, modern, and clean. There is only one shower and it is 50 cents for 6 minutes. It takes a bit to get any hot water and there is next to no water pressure though. I was on my way back from the bathroom and my dogs were on leashes at the edge of our site barking at another dog walking by. The other owner, John, pulls up on his golf cart and tells us the dogs can't be in the road, which they weren't. They were on the edge in the pine needles. But I said, no problem. He rudely said, I don't care what you do, shorten the leashes, but get them in the site. I gave him the thumbs up. The kids also informed us that while I was at the bathroom they were walking the dogs and John stopped them to tell them only the parents can walk the dogs. My kids are 20, 16, 15, 14, 12, and 12. My 20 year old was one of the ones stopped and said the parents need to walk the dogs.
My wife and I went to the office shortly after to buy our adapter and inform Peggy which kids were staying where. We listed out the kids and their locations and Peggy said to my wife, "Are you sure?" My wife said yes. Peggy said, "The reason I am asking is because it was seen that 3 kids stayed in your mother's cabin." She followed it up with, "We went to make sure we have an open and honest relationship".
Overall this was a terrible experience. If you are an older couple with no kids and don't leave your site often, this could be a nice place for you. But I will never be back. I don't need to spend my few vacation days being watched like I am being sent to the principal's...
Read moreI have camped on this property since 2005. We have experienced 3 sets of owners. Now let me be clear, each of the owners were in different stages of their careers as owners and ages, so their approach, motivations and physical resources were different. So jumping forward to the current owners and Lazy Frog Campground. The transformation of this campground is akin to breathing life into a dying animal and watching it thrive, come alive and fill hearts with joy. Children laughing and playing again, adults interacting with each other in the friendliest atmosphere you will encounter in any camp ground anywhere. The grounds, the buildings, the landscapes , all have gone thru, and continue to go thru upgrades as the owners visions come to life. Let's not kid ourselves, these folks are a hard working family of Grand Parents and Daughters, with John and Peggy working tirelessly and steering the vision. They go the extra mile with cleanliness, organization, entertaining activities and interaction with ALL their guests. Look I could go on and on about this place. It's rare you get to see such a transformation unfold before your very eyes. It's amazing to see total strangers so comfortable, having so much fun with each other week in and week out whether seasonal's or weekend guests. At the end of the day this review may mean nothing to you.. BUT bringing your family here, coming here to relax, to atv ride, to swim, see the local sites or just plain relax you will NOT be disappointed. Once you have pulled in and are greeted by these owners you to will watch what I have said here unfold for you and your family. SO as NIKE said... just do it .....
Read moreMy wife and I have had the great joy of camping at the Lazy Frog Campground now for two seasons. We look forward to the happiness we feel, the quiet and the friendship of the owners John and Peggy when we pull in for the weekend.
Several things stand out. 1. Lazy Frog is clean, has both clean campsites and restrooms, and is free from clutter. 2. Lazy Frog is a family friendly and kid friendly place. We had the opportunity to stay at a near-by "Adults Only" community but with 8 Grandkids this was out of the question. The bonus is that each weekend John and Peggy and their staff plan outstanding fun events. Things like costume contests, camping Olympics, frog jumping contests and BBQ cook offs make it a fun place. The camp sites are a great mix of sizes to accommodate all campers from large Class A RVs to pup tents. And regardless of what kind of rig you have the other campers welcome you and treat you like family. 4. Having looked around before deciding on lazy Frog we found the prices for seasonal camping to be very reasonable and we get great value for our dollar.
We were sad when we closed down for the season...We can't wait for next year...You should come and join us...it will be a leapin' good time. Ed & Lana...
