The Filbert B&B is located in an old Victorian farmhouse in northern Pennsylvania near Blue Mountain Resort. The main home and out buildings were raised in the early 1800’s. Just the history of this working farm is a draw on its own. It contains the main house, general store, outhouse, smoke house, summer kitchen with root cellar, barn, and chicken and pig pens (all nicely restored and maintained) along with an expansive and groomed grounds. This B&B is featured in the book, “The Slack Packer's Guide to Hiking the Appalachian Trail.” Since we were hiking the Appalachian Trail we contacted Kathy for reservations. She met us at a trailhead with 2 big glasses of lemonade and took us to the B&B. We were provided with an area to store our equipment, a basket for our wash, clean scrubs to wear, and a tub with salts to soak our feet. The next morning we were treated with a big breakfast. Our bacon, eggs, and seasoned potatoes all came from the family farm. It was storming so we decided to stay for an extra day. As the storm abated, an outdoor wedding ceremony took place on the grounds and dining and dancing took place in the barn. Very happy music and sounds for sure. The next day Kathy fed us and took us back to the trailhead. We hiked on to Wind Gap where she picked us up for our third night of stay. Our room and stay was perfect. We could not have asked for anything more. Everything we needed was available for us and Kathy was a responsible and respectful hostess. I highly recommend this B&B for those with a discriminating taste looking for a historical and relaxing...
Read moreStaying at the Filbert B&B is one of the best decisions we have ever made for a Family event. The former General Store and beautifully designed and manicured grounds made this stay a memory we will all hold for a lifetime. The rooms are so spacious and comfortable we didn’t want to leave for our family events! For our Grandsons the visit was like a living history lesson. The home is richly decorated and furnished with amazing and beautiful period pieces and artifacts rarely seen outside of a museum. Its location so very close to the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Mountain Ski Resort with its stunning views and year-round activities was just an added bonus. As a wedding venue or for any other special gathering you simply will not find anything better… anywhere. The breakfasts were delicious and so generous that lunch became an afterthought. Sitting in the rockers on the front porch or relaxing in the back garden area was so peaceful that any stress we felt evaporated. Playing cards around the dining room table in the evenings brought our family closer together than anything we have experienced in years. However, the real “Gem” in this story is the innkeeper, Kathy. Her attentiveness, thoughtfulness, and remarkable mastery of the history of the B&B and surrounding area made each of us feel more like long-absent family members than first-time guests. We will be...
