I just returned from an amazing stay at the Whaleback Inn! My kids and I spent a couple of nights and wish we could have stayed longer. There are so many wonderful things about this picturesque inn. First and foremost, Rachel and Ty (the innkeepers) are incredible hosts. The attention and care they provide to the guests is unmatched. Besides just being warm and friendly, they provide you with an innkeepers’ guide of recommendations for things to do, both in Leland and the surrounding towns. It’s obvious they have put a lot of care and attention into it. I would go back just for them!||The room: we stayed in a double queen. It is beautiful, immaculately clean and we had a beautiful view of the lake from our patio. I (sadly) had to do a bit of work while there and the Wi-Fi worked flawlessly. ||Each morning, they offered coffee, hot chocolate, freshly made muffins and fruit. The front porch was a perfect place for morning coffee (and afternoon wine when I go back!). ||They have kayaks and standup paddle boards for rent (which we did!) and a couple of docks with lounge chairs to enjoy Lake Leelanau. ||I loved everything about this place and there is zero to complain about. It’s cozy and just perfection. I can’t wait to go back!||(Shoutout to Hank, the cat, who we...
Read moreHad a lovely stay at the Whaleback Inn. Stayed 2 nights at the Maple cottage with 4 people. It easily accommodates 6. The cottage is quite roomy. Plenty of sitting space and a roomy kitchen. Everything was spotless and the furniture looked quite new. There's a double bed on the ground floor and 4 single beds on the first floor.
Fair warning: the single beds on the first floor are placed 2 in a 'room' but the rooms are connected by an open portal. So this cottage would be more suited for a family rather than multiple couples. But if you're happy with this arrangement it's not a problem at all.
The owners were friendly and accommodating. There's coffee available in the mornings and snacks and demineralized water.
The location is quite convenient to explore the area. After a day if exploring it's quite nice to just relax on the porch or take a short walk down to the lake to enjoy the nights' sky.
Also as a bonus: the Innkeeper cat 'Hank' is friendly and likes a pat on the head when he's making his rounds to see if the guests...
Read moreWe stayed here during my first visit along the M-22. We booked two nights but we wanted to leave early because the property did not meet our expectations (I won’t disparage, so feel free to see for yourself) and because most everything in the surrounding area seems to be closed in early spring. Unfortunately, the owners were not at all accommodating. They would not refund our second night or offer a partial return on what was a very expensive rate. In the end, we felt so strongly about leaving that we just ate the cost of the second night. Their “no refunds” policy must be in the fine print but I think it’s very short-sighted to upset a first-time visitor. I strongly recommend booking one night only or finding another property that is more customer-oriented so you don’t forfeit your hard-earned money if you were severely...
