Awful experience, please read. GM called to state we were not welcome back after leaving a negative review.
Upon arrival or booking we were not aware that the water pressure to the park was poor. After calling the office they advised this was due to the city and beyond their control which is understandable. We had received text notifications that the water was shut off periodically to be fixed and if it came back on and it was not improved. (Again not their fault as we were aware) Then on a Friday we were notified the laundry facility would be closed for the weekend due to repairs. Followed by a text on Saturday that the water would be shut off for the weekend. So we didnât have water or laundry the entire weekend and the laundry facility didnât open for another few days after the weekend. Water was shut off at random and was not always notified or a late notification went out after we found out it was off. The pool was full of bugs even with the automatic robots that cleaned the surface and had leaves and debris on the bottom for our entire stay. The chlorine didnât seem very balanced as our swim suits became faded very quickly and has never occurred while at any campground we have been to. The âplaygroundâ was roped off and no notification that it was closed our entire stay.
They did notify us about evacuating with Hurricane Helene and we appreciated the communication about leaving and possible flooding which we ended up leaving to evacuate. The Koa sent out messages to notify us about the status of power and flooding. We did call at one point to ask after we didnât hear any news for a few days and was not very pleasant from the staff about our inquiry if the power was on. We decided that we couldnât return due to power, and had gotten an email to leave a review about this campground. I left an honest review on our experience and had gotten a call from the owner stating to call her back. When I had called she reprimanded me for my review and was upset that we had left a negative review and argued that they had communicated and let us know each and every single time the water was off and on. They stated our campsites were not held to their standards and our children were running around and they allowed us to do all of this. They advised that we were not welcome back and if they had known we would leave a negative review they would have not refunded us.
Iâm shocked that a MANAGER of a business would call and not ask what they could do better or apologize for the experience. Instead she (the GM) called and advised that we were not welcome back.
I am entitled to my opinion and review and this was my honesty. If you look at the previous and past reviews for this campground, many people arrive and were NOT aware of the water situation or construction at the time of booking.
The KOA responded to my review and stated that we had not left our site to their standards, which we were unaware of until we had left.
Iâm disappointed by how a general manager acted on the phone as a professional and business owner. I will never recommend this campground to anyone and hope that anyone who stays here has a...
Read moreWe arrived mid week and the staff and the campground were amazing. We received information to get us well on our way to enjoying our vacay.||-We were given information about cane frogs and what to do if we saw one around the KOA. |- The staff gave us hours for the pool, (24 hrs), laundry (24 hours), and bathrooms.|- Rental equipment and the water way surrounding the KOA|- Towels could be turned in for fresh|towels with a call to the office.|- Laundry was $2.75 per machine and $.75 for drying. |- Free games, corn hole, shuffle board, horse shoes. Ping pong you pay $.25 for the ball.|- Big circle of bench swings with lighting and a fire pit. SO RELAXING ||Our cabin was absolutely adorable. It had a bed for adults and a bunk bed set for kids off the main room. The bathroom was small but adequate with a sink, toilet and shower. BATHROOM WAS CLEAN. The kitchen had a small dorm room type refrigerator and a microwave. Here is what is provided in cabin rental. Pool towels, washcloths, bath towels, hand towels and linens, a blanket and pillows for the bed. The shower had soap, conditioner and body wash in dispensers. The kitchen had a can and bottle opener and a small bottle of dishwashing soap, a sponge, kitchen towel and wash cloth. There is a BBQ grill and grilling tools. A picnic table with chairs.|THE ABSOLUTE BEST THINGâ is a screened in porch with a small table and 2 chairs. NO MOSQUITOS AND NO âNO-SEEUMSâ!||Your pets are provided with a food and water bowl AND a small bag of treats.||The location of the KOA is close to restaurants, shopping, and beaches. Sanibel Island is 1 1/2 hour away⌠give or take..(traffic).||So given all that I have told you, we were surprised to see a lot of empty RV spaces and cabins. Iâm thinking people might believe the KOA was swept away with the last few big storms and hasnât returned. OK with usâthe pool and hot tub had two people if any when we went as was the laundry. (Bring your own detergent/ dryer sheets)||Thatâs about everything I can think|of to tell the you. We didnât rent bicycles, or kayaks but they have them. ||Fun times...
Read moreOur family of four was tent camping, but our site was right under a floodlight. The temporary bathroom/shower was stinky, but clean and functional. The more permanent bathrooms associated with the part of the campground next to the river were way better. Kids loved the pool which was just the right temperature. Convenient location for people who want to fish, kayak, or otherwise boat in the Rookery Bay area, which is an easy two-mile paddle from the campground boat ramp. Attempted to rent a kayak from the campground, but the rules and schedule associated with doing so were too onerous. Couldn't keep it over night, could not get started early enough, and would of had to turn it in too early in the afternoon. Lots of other more amenable places to rent kayaks from in the area that will deliver. The Rookery Bay Educational Center is very close to the campground and you can book great kayak tours through them. The ed center has a touch tank and hiking trails. This KOA is very conveniently located for southwest FL attractions. Don't miss Corkscrew Swamp! This is an expensive campground, but the campground itself does not live up to the price tag, but maybe the location does. This is not the sort of campground that is appealing to spend daylight hours hanging out in unless you want to socialize with the other campers or hang out at the pool. Bring bug spray with DEET and put it on preemptively in the late afternoon to prepare for the attack at sunset. Very little shade available. Campsites are very close together. RV dominated. Seemed to have a thriving retiree community that liked to get together in the rec hall. There is some grass to pitch a tent, but we were told to use the gravel or cement pads associated with the tent sites since the grass has a tendency to flood when it rains from the nearby shallow ditch. Bathrooms are far enough away to be inconvenient when camping with kids at night, and this is NOT a "get up and do your business behind a tree"...
