We visited this place last July 2019, and we want to return again. The overall experience and atmosphere was what we were looking for since we usually go to local attractions for our entertainment. The pool was open but the size is very small and becomes crowded very fast and this was the main reason i took off a star. This is a traditional camping experience, the bathrooms were clean and the showers had curtains for privacy. since this is a Thousand Trails stay for us we feel it was worth the 7hr drive. This campground does have a lot of permanent sites in the higher up campsites but with the expansion you see that is a big clearing and the sites near the entrance that are still available i believe they are making a great effort to accommodate everyone . The staff was limited but friendly, The food area when open is good for a quick meal but the quality will vary depending on who makes it. We highly recommend you bring what you need to cook. The roads are very narrow and could be intimidating to beginners or people with big rigs, There is a big steep hill you have to go up if you decide to camp in the big open lot at the back of the campground (765,764 etc), Your equipment, truck and towing setup can be put to test here, We have a 34ft bunk house Tracer 3150bhd and made it though but i would not want to pass another camper because you will have to make some tricky maneuvers to get out of each others way. I believe all new visitors should be escorted for sure and some system used to avoid large rigs from coming and going at the same time until the road is repaired that would eliminate the problem . We made the mistake and went up the last paved road instead of going around a sharp corner and taking the dirt road which ended up causing a bad situation because the road was extremely steep and narrow, This cause my truck for the first time to run hot and slip backwards on the wet road, If we would have went straight to the site or had an escort we would have avoided this troubling situation. We also discovered some front end damage to the suspension after we setup or camper. This to us was confirmed when people started coming out of there camp sites to ask why we were up there and after talking to others. I also would bring a golf cart or a E-bike if want to go around the campground, We had neither but wished we had one. We left our regular bikes in the truck bed and drove everywhere, especially since the trash is all the way at the front entrance. The sites were a little small but not to bad and about average for this type of campground, the weekends do get real busy and the area we were in 764 was full. The other campers around us were friendly overall and social but there is a lot of people that show up now and are not as considerate as others or understand the unspoken rules. Mosley people with dogs that are barking all the time and at one point someones pit bull got loose from their owner across from us and forced us and our daughter to take shelter in our camper. this is not Green Mountain's fault it has become the price we pay to stay at most thousand trail resorts, To achieve a quite weekend and enjoy nature sometimes is difficult with screaming kids, and barking dogs or pets running loose. Maintenance budgets and restrictions to cutting down trees etc that would give everyone better scenery seems to effect Thousand trails campgrounds from making places better but i know they do what they can with what they get from Thousand trails. We will look for other camping experiences in the future for sure. Overall taking in considerations of the cost, area and having some of a mountain view during the stay we feel it was worth the time and money. The wifi worked great, its not free, around 30,00 but this was one of the few times we had 30mb...
Read moreOverall the campground is in a nice location in a forestry area. It's perfect for leaving you RV before heading up mountains to see Blowing Rock,... in case you don't want to pull a heavy trailer up the mountain. Lenoir is close by, but not a town to do or see anything. Walmart, Lowe's, Hobby Lobby, Harbor Freight all easy accessibility. Next town to see is Hickory, check out Union Square, livley spuare with lots of outdoor sitting, Restaurants, boutique Shops,..
If you need to get work done on your trailer call General RV (local RV repair) they are great and very uncomplicated. They do work onsite, if you have a extended warranty and the work is covered chances are good that you don't even need to pay the service call, thus the complete work is free and you don't need to drop your trailer to a dealer, wait 2 weeks, get no info, wait another 7 weeks, you got me....
Here what we did not like: Lots of un-maintained annual RVs and cottages, what I personally really dislike. Adult pool very small. Nice size kiddy pool whereby waterfeature advertised with, is not switched on. Nice pool chairs but nothing to lay down. Very hilly terrain. Choose site well, you can either be nicely nestled by the creek (beginning of park) in the shadow with your own wooden porch or on an open field without shade and gravel surface ,(End of park).
Extremely low water pressure of 20PSI which makes taking whoever no fun.
Damaged our 300 USD surge protector because of low mounted plugs, they are literally 3 inches above ground. A is that a danger so close to water (the water spiket right next to it was leaking) and B is it just super inconvenient to plug in the power so close to dirt. There is no room for a external surge protector if you still plug one in be sure it will catch water since it's so bended. (site 26)
Nice Lake (catch and release), but no path to walk around (Why?)
Not an ideal campground with small kids (Stroller) since its so hilly, but ideal place to bring your golfcart out.
Visit your site first some sites are not for the faint hearted to back in (very, very steep)
Overall nice location. If you get a good site you will enjoy your stay.
Feedback about thousand trails: This is our second thousand trails campground and slowly we got the picture. Thousand trails seems to be a membership where campgrounds focuses on anuals are filling up their open site. And if you have annuals on a campground you always got the unpleasant less maintained units and no holiday feel. Also they are called resorts,...
Read moreThis is an older campground with campsites for anything from tents to larger Class A motorcoaches. The good: has a great location in a valley with trees and big hills all around. There are 7 miles of hiking trails with moderate to challenging difficulty. There are some pretty good hills to climb. The views and wildlife are great! You hear Pileated Woodpeckers and all sorts of birds. There are deer around too and a variety of interesting plants and morels (mushrooms) the place is literally covered in rhodedendron bushes that will certainly be beautiful in the month of May or so. The okay: sites are mostly unpaved and not very level. Expect to have to add 1 to 4 inches on one side of your camper to get level. The water pressure was very high so I recommend you have a pressure regulator as to not damage your camper plumbing. The ugly: the facilities are in pretty bad shape with the exception of the very nice clubhouse. The putt putt is a 9 hole course with some challenges including a lot of moss and dirt on the surfaces. The tennis courts are definitely in bad repair and need resurfacing. Shuffleboard is also in bad need of resurfacing. The bath house near the 700 area had heat running all the time which made it a sauna and a haven for bugs and other animals. Some of the fixtures are out of order. Cellular coverage here is bad so don't expect to work or make phone calls unless you have satellite service or subscribe to the $8/day Internet Wifi they offer which honestly wasn't bad. I'd definitely camp here again but with lower expectations about the facility and because of the positive things like being unplugged from my phone and the beautiful surroundings. I'd like to end my review on a positive note with a request that whatever is needed to get this place in good shape be made known both to the patrons and to the Thousand Trails management. I believe there are good people out there who love to camp who would be willing to assist in some of the needed maintenance of surfaces as well as electrical, heating, and plumbing. A crew with a power washer and a few hours to resurface the shuffleboard court would be a good start. Would you be willing to offer free nights or weeks of camping in exchange for work? Let's be positive. I can only give 3 stars because that is honest. But the campground has great potential and a lot...
