This place is almost surreal…
It’s a great place where kids can have a lot of fun, there’s a playground, a swimming pool, you can fish at the pond, etc. So if I was a kid and my parents brought me here I would have had a great time; it’s perfect for family gatherings and taking the kids to a place where they can run around, be loud, spend the whole day in the pool, they have a snack bar and the milkshakes and fries are amazing!
The thing is, I am not a kid and I wanted peace and quiet; well, you won’t find that here. No way! No such thing, but that’s more on me, I guess.
I got there 3 days after the 4th of July so my experience was kind of exceptional and from an anthropology perspective, really interesting.
Everyone at the swimming pool had either stars and spangles swimming suits or blue and red patriotic outfits or t shirts with the legend: “Got Freedom?” Or “I can’t hear you over the sound of my freedom” kind of thing…. Apparently everyone there loved their country a lot. And their freedom. ( I like my freedom as well, but I think they like theirs more )
The atmosphere was festive, and relaxed, people drinking beer at the pool and having fun while the kids did cannon ball competitions or play Marco Polo…
After a while I realized the place is a campground but also a trailer park where people actually live, some of them seem to be veterans or something of the sort.
The afternoon I was there it was bingo night and a lot of people took part in it. they seemed to have had fun.
Then at 10 pm there were fireworks…. Do you know what people there love more than Freedom? Fireworks! There was and absolutely badass display of fireworks that lasted 30 minutes… 30 minutes of loud, spectacular, first level fireworks… If I was a tiny dog or a sensitive pet it would have been a seemingly never ending nightmare… But I am a human and I enjoyed them; however I could not help but think about all the trash and debris that was being shot into the pond.
The pond looks beautiful in pictures but is in great need of a deep clean up, not only from all the trash from the fireworks, but it also needs to be clean from a lot fishing line tangled among the lilies , fishing hooks, tackle, beer bottles, rotting algae, etc…
In a few words, I won’t be coming back again because that’s not the kind of experience I look for when I am camping but I would definitely recommend it to families that want their kids to have...
Read moreAfter reading all the great reviews about this campground and one (not so ok one);I felt I had to post my experiences also. It's a 45 minute beautiful ride from my home. Every year since we've been going there (20 Yrs) I can't believe the improvements the owners make each year. They really care about their property and making sure every camper (seasonal or not) has what they need and are satisfied. They always welcome any suggestions that would make camping more pleasurable. They have crafts every weekend for the kids and hayride. They have an awesome playground, basketball court along the side of store is a net for volleyball. They have rental boats and paddle boats. The firework display is awesome too. There might be one weekend nothing is going on at night and that's when the Harford Fair is going on sometime in August. The Halloween trail is unbelievable and so so cheap--they do an incredible job. EVERYONE is so friendly and gives a helping hand to anyone if needed. As far as the restrooms, they recently built a new one and is kept very clean. I could only imagine, if it was dirty, it would have been taken care of immediately. As far as skunks--it's a campground; and I never came across but 1 or 2. So if you love camping; you have to check this place out. The cabins are so quaint to and close to everything!! Happy camping everyone.....and if you want to go on a holiday weekend,...
Read moreIf I was able to give this place a 0 I would in a heartbeat. The owners have zero respect for the campers. The store is ran by teenagers and it was a hangout. My kids and I went to the pool and there was a 13 year old lifeguard. He TOLD my kids that they can not jump in the pool because the water is low (it really wasn’t) and about an hour later this “lifeguard” jumped in the pool in front of my kids. The porta john was so disgusting and ran out of toilet paper. Tried to contact the owners via ring doorbell but was ignored. So the porta john went 2 days without toilet paper, mind you I am with a group of 21 family members and we have a lot of kids who need to use the restroom. The one night we were hanging out and cooking food after hours and this guy walked into our tented area with 3 kids under the age if 8 and wouldn’t leave, he said he worked at the campsite. Come to find out that he did not work at the campsite he was just a camper there. This was my first time at this campsite and I recommend if you like to hang out and have an nice time stay far far far away from this place. And after all this happened the owners kicked us and and said they’ll give us a refund minus the reservation fee. Let’s see if they actually do it and...
