We really like this Thousand Trails campground. Pretty much anything you could need or want is nearby, especially really good barbecue restaurants. (They're all good!) The staff answers the phone when you call. They don't charge for packages or washing your rig. The little lake has a duck family that are fun to watch. And we like that they choose a site for you, versus sending you on a hunt for an available site. (I realize this may be a controversial stand, but it's our preference.) There are plenty of big trash cans, and they're located all over the park. They even have a couple historic sites on the property as this was once part of a cotton and tobacco plantation. We were in the B section, which is the older part of the campground. The ladies bathroom in the B section is closed longterm, but a G section bathroom is nearby (and adjacent to the trash cans for us multitasking folk) and it's new, very clean, and quite nice as far as campground bathhouses go. We also really like the nature trail. The game room is fun, too. (I actually worked up there one day ... in-between games of skee ball. lulz) We spent two weeks on an RV site and have now moved to a "Getaway" cabin so that we can have some routine maintenance done on our rig. The staff was very helpful when it came time to transition from the RV site to the cabin. We did pay $55 to store our RV for one week. Our oil change appointment is early on a Monday, and before the rangers arrive, so the staff and rangers helped us come up with a plan to get the key for the storage gate and make it to our appointment on time. We really appreciate that! I just happened to meet the General Manager who seems happy and nice, and glad to recieve some praise for one of her employees. Yeah, there are some rough edges as this is an older park, but they're not a big deal. The only complaint we have is that drivers kick up a lot of dust when they drive above the speed limit (5 mph) on the gravel roads. (The new G section has paved roads.) However, the beautiful, mostly rain-free, autumn weather made the dust seem like a minor thing.

Edit: We've been here many times, love it! For this visit, they decorated the park for Halloween and had a spooky Halloween trail cut into the field near the group camping pavilion. I also discovered a lot of golf cart trails. Many are overgrown during the summer, but now that's dying off so the trails are easier to find. After rains, some trails have standing water and lots of mud. You can get a lot of steps in at this campground. This is one of our favorite Thousand Trails campgrounds. It's well maintained and looks like the large loop in the C section was graded since the last time we were here a year ago...not nearly as bumpy anymore, except one small area. Most of the sites are spacious and level, at least the ones we've stayed on. It's a quiet campground. The staff are very helpful and professional. We filled up our propane tank and the office was closed by the time we were done. They were okay with us paying later over the phone. Speaking of propane, the propane filling area is really hard to maneuver into in a big Class-A. The dumpsters are within the turning radius, as well as the concrete medians that used to be for the dump station. We had a devil of a time getting to the propane station. Also, getting out is a very tight turn for large rigs. There is a corner that could be filled in with gravel to even out the pavement with the ground which would make it easier. The campground has started charging for packages that you receive there. There are 2 laundry rooms, each with 4 sets of machines that use the CSC credit card reader to operate the machines...you can also use quarters. There is some construction currently happening on the property. The water pressure is good and the water tastes good, too. It's close enough to Lexington or Mocksville for groceries, shopping or dining out.

Nice park, pretty big. Common areas are clean and updated really nice. Woodsy with a nice size small lake. Review: I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Thousand Trails Forest Lake Campground and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. The park is expansive and offers a tranquil environment that allows you to reconnect with nature and leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One of the highlights of the campground was the cleanliness and updated status of the common areas. Clearly, great care is taken to maintain these spaces, and it really adds to the overall appeal of the park. Taking a morning or evening run here is a delightful experience - the environment is just so serene. The natural beauty of the place is enhanced by its woodsy charm and a sizable pond that adds a soothing element to the surroundings. The campsites are quaint and blend seamlessly with the wooded environment, providing a comfortable and cozy stay. What stood out to me were the cabins, which looked particularly inviting. Their design and location felt in harmony with the surroundings, providing an ideal option for those who prefer a bit more comfort during their camping experience. Overall, Thousand Trails Forest Lake Campground is a charming place that leaves you feeling refreshed and recharged. It's a perfect spot whether you're looking for a family outing, a romantic getaway, or a solo retreat. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a peaceful camping experience.

Could be better. We were moved on the G side. When we first arrived, we wanted a handicap spot, which we didn’t get, they did move us a day later after the fact, which was nice. We really did appreciate that. We requested to possibly have access to the WiFi that we saw was “free” but apparently you have to “upgrade/pay extra” for that, which was a bummer. But we made-do. The bath houses are out of service, & the “family” one is always flooded, & this morning it had runoff sewage in the restroom. We were ‘dry camping’ & it was a mess when we wanted to take a shower. Even the nice one near the dumpsters aren’t maintained/cleaned properly, the floors are ALWAYS drenched in water, so they just keep the wet floor sign up & do nothing about the problem. The recreational center is a nice hangout spot, but all the arcade games you have to pay for, so it’s best to bring your own entertainment, it was also messy however as well, dog hair on furniture, questionable stains, trash. Upon our temporary stay here, we thought at first it was just us, but upon talking to other campers one day while doing laundry here, we concluded some of the workers & certain people (that seem to be here full time) are REALLY snooty. It’s a campground, not a Beverly Hills area bro…. They seem pretty laid back on rules here as well. Our first day here (about a week ago) they had a ‘no fires’ ban, & on the day it was still active, people were ACTIVELY BURNING FIRES. Didn’t feel too safe about that. Also a lot of dog owners had their dogs off leash, which is an NC state law that requires all pets to be on a lead/leash & close to their owners. We have family members that have been attacked by dogs off leash before, this made us also extremely uncomfortable. There are lots of children that run around active here, on bikes, etc. so we encourage others to please follow the driving speed, because apparently people think this area is a racetrack area, it’s not too bad….but we did notice people not paying attention to their surroundings/driving, or either not caring. We might be back, but not too sure. We look forward to seeing this place hoping to improve in the future. Thank you for reading,...

My family, 3 boys under the age of 12, my wife and Black Lab all stayed at the Forest Lake for a long 3 day weekend. The place is huge and we stayed with another couple who has 3 kids all the same age as my boys. There was an easter egg hunt and activities to keep all the kids very busy. There is a huge pond for fishing, basketball courts and enough to keep everything running around and busy while the adults chill. My wife and I didn't have to worry about where our kids were and that allowed us to really relax and enjoy the surroundings. Keep the kids off technology and playing in the outdoors is our primary goal for camping. The campground is busy and could be cleaned up a little bit, but that just confirmed for us the campground is being used and we are okay with that. The staff is more than friendly and everyone we met was friendly and nice. There was huge late night parties and the campsite are far enough away from each other that everything doesn't feel cramped like at Pirate Land or other KOA's we've stayed at. We were so impressed with Forest Lake that we bought an annual membership and have access to 23 different campground in the entire southeast. We like to camp and typically spend 90 to 160 a weekend depending on where we stay. For one flat fate, we basically paid for all of our lodging for the summer if we stay at one of the 23 different locations and we can stay to up to a 2 full weeks if the campsite is available. We were planning a trip to Disney this year and the average cost per night per campsite is 150 bucks. Forest Lake has RV resort in Orlando and with our membership we can stay their for free which will really help us save money in the long. Since we are located only 45 minutes to Forest Lake and they have a huge pool, we can also make day trips during the summer to play in the pool and other area's Forest Lake has for kids to keep busy. For us it was money well spent and we would recommend staying at Forest Lake and taking advantage of everything we they have to offer. 5 Stars...
