Peace. Tranquility. Solitude. Dog-friendly. I found all that and more at Windymile Cabin. If you are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place for you. Windymile is an easy drive from Washington, DC. I came for a solo retreat with my two city dogs. They loved being able to sniff and run through a couple of fenced acres and bark at the cows. The cabin is situated on a quarter acre fenced lot with another 2 fenced acres surrounding it. Beyond that is a cow pasture, the host's place and amazing mountain views. You'll feel like you are away from everything (and everyone) on your own peaceful oasis. The cabin was clean and had all that I needed including a great stash of DVDs. Internet and cable isn't provided but I connected just fine with my Verizon cell service. There is a lot to explore in the area - hiking trails, fishing spots and lots of places to just roam around. So grab a good book, your hiking shoes and your fishing poles and head out to Windymile. And don't forget your dogs!

We just returned from a phenomenal stay at Windymile! The cabin is cozy and perfect for a refreshing get away. We were treated to multiple sightings of wildlife and the pups were able to experience cows pretty up close. The yard is perfect to allow the dogs to run free and explore nature, and we really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace. The location is just close enough to enjoy local sights and restaurants, but far enough away to relax. I would recommend 10/10 and hope to return in the coming months. Do yourself a favor...pack your pups (or your kids) and visit for a few days to experience the mountain air - you will thank me!

If you are looking for a relaxing get away with beautiful views and a dog friendly place LOOK NO FURTHER! You are close to fun outdoor adventures (ie hiking at natural bridge, tubing down the James river and swimming in goshen pass) the outdoor fireplace was used every night! The stargazing was pretty great too! Dont pass this place up!

We have stayed at Windymile twice and can't wait to go back. People often joke that parents don't get vacations on family trips, they just keep doing the same cycle of cooking and cleaning just in a different place. At Windymile, though, all of our parents duties are made infinitely better by the lovely setting, simplicity and ease of staying at the cabin, and the spectacular views. Our two little kids and two dogs loved exploring the property and watching the neighboring cows while my husband and I enjoyed the stunning sunsets, stargazing, and cozy outdoor fireplace. We loved how quiet it was (and that the kids and dogs could make as much noise as they wanted without disturbing anyone) and that everyone was safely enclosed within the fencing and set way back from the road. Another big plus for us is that the cabin is one story with no stairs. This made it easy and safe for the kids to toddle in and out and we could keep an eye on them very easily, and there are two bedrooms with doors that close for nap time. Dave was super helpful in setting us up with everything we needed and suggesting fun places to explore. The cabin is equipped with basic kitchen supplies like pots, pans, silverware, and cleaning solutions. There is also a dishwasher and a washer and dryer; a big plus! We seriously wish we...

I searched all over the area for a place that was quiet, had great views, and could accommodate the whole family for a reasonable price. We certainly found that with Windymile. The owners were accommodating at every step of the way. The cabin was great and really had everything we needed to spend time with family. While Lexington certainly has great things to see we spent a great deal of time at the kitchen table laughing and playing games. The views in the morning were wonderful with a cup of coffee. It was isolated enough to give privacy and a quiet atmosphere, but still close enough to Lexington points of interest. I really did search all within a 50 mile range of Lexington and this really was the best deal for for a family of 5 and the parents. I was there in August 2013, and I would love to return when it is cooler outside. It would be great to sit around the fire ring on a brisk evening. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful...
