I absolutely Love The Hickory Creek Wilderness Ranch in Tidioute, PA. First time camping all alone with my horse and the ranch was beautiful and the campground hosts were so helpful and it made me feel safe to go off trail riding for hours and know my camp was secure and that someone would know what trail I took and be aware that I was out there alone. It certainly isn't their job to do so but it gave me an extra layer of confidence. The trails were so we'll marked though, a rider or hike could not get lost there. So many improvements have been made in the years since I saw the ranch last. The laundry was a great addition. And the individual restroom/shower rooms were extremely clean and modem. I love that I could buy ice and firewood there at a very reasonable price. Washrack to clean off my horse after riding. The sites were clean and shaded. I chose an electric site for my 7 days there but the primitive sites are gorgeous, and either deep shade, sunny or a combination of both. There was an event there at the rodeo arena the Saturday I was there and the grounds there are excellent. The staff really go out of there was to be helpful and make sure everyone has a good experience. I could have even gone kayaking if I wasn't so busy riding. The campground has 6 kayaks and if the weather and the river is safe, the staff is willing to help out with the logistics of getting your vehicle to the pickup point and you to the launch. This whole campground has been renewed and a new energy and look to it. It will be one of my favorite places to ride now....
Read moreWent to the Rodeo hosted at this site. We arrived fairly early and I wondered how they ever would get people to attend a backwoods event. Boy was I wrong! It was a full house. We had traveled just about an hour to get there. It was almost 4 hours of bull riding with a great announcer and rodeo clown entertainment. Could this clown be Sir Purr? Possibly as he had the moves! So many barrel races showed up that we had to leave and get home. Covered bleachers protects from the sun and rain and they were angled just perfect so that the June 30th sun didn't bother us. Up on a slight hill so that there was a nice breeze too. Toilets were porta johns. they had a food shack, a trailer for funnel cakes and one for kettle corn/lemonade....
