I am a long-time paintballer here to do a review of this park from the perspective of an enthusiast (not a kid-party rental-gun visitor)! This place has a lot to prove given that it lives in the Chicagoland area where there are other high-brow places like CPX and PB Explosion.
Price: The usual prices. $80 for a case. Admission and rental are reasonable (though hunt for Groupons in order to save the most money you can).
Fields/maps: They have 5 maps and I'm afraid 3 of them are nearly unplayable. The 3 I'm talking about are in heavily wooded areas that have not been well-maintained. Consequently there is brush everywhere and it doesn't make playing paintball super fun. Even if you are into woodsball, you will probably find that these maps need much more thoughtful design and maintenance. There are, luckily, two fields in a more open arenas with relatively thoughtful placement of scenario-type bunkers. (For some specific feedback on Fallout to the owners, I recommend placing cover on the long sides of the huge structure in order to make them usable for players to advance - otherwise it is a very long pathway of death).
Clientele: I was there only once so I have a small sample, but among the open-play crowd, there was an enormous number of little kids and other people who do not play paintball and were there renting with large parties. People were rampantly discharging their paintball markers rampantly, removing their masks, not having barrel socks on when they were supposed to, and shooting me in the back (as a friendly). And they just hang around in the back hiding, which is natural, and makes for amusing play for a few rounds but gets pretty boring and uncompetitive.
Referees: They are nice enough people, but as I've found in many smaller-scale paintball fields that hire local teenagers for paintball, they did not have a great interest in facilitating an expedient day for their patrons. It seemed (as is natural for a teenaged summer worker) more of a job they were trudging through. Game organizing was painfully slow (almost to the point where I would consider it a waste of time and money to go here for a full day and pay admission, given how few games they got together in the whole day). They lack leadership and organizing skills to get everyone together, split people into teams, and get through games in a timely fashion. They're still pretty nice though, and their actual refereeing during the games was competent and caring.
Safety: The refs are genuinely interested in safety but I think they lack the command presence and efficiency needed to match the inherent dangerous behavior of the hordes of noobs and idiot kids that come through to have a bucket-list-paintball day. I was seriously concerned for my eyeballs when we were walking to and from fields, and even just in the staging areas. (As another piece of specific feedback to the owners, I suggest setting up netting directly outside your fields to serve as the deadboxes; that will allow people to remove their masks safely while waiting, and I suspect that that release will actually reduce the amount of habitual mask-removing people do in unsafe areas).
Pro-shop: There is none, which...
Read moreI am by no means a "veteran airsofter" but, I've been to a few fields. Legacy's entry fee is competitive with the others I've been to. Legacy charges $25. Also, due to Covid-19, you have to register online. Also, you are required to purchase their airsoft BB's and have a cover over the muzzle of your weapon in certain areas-all pretty standard of similar places. All of this info is on their website. Their organization between paintball and airsoft, as far as logistics, wait times and equipment rental is great. All the workers are very professional and, work like a well oiled machine. A special shout-out to the refs for airsoft, who were quick to answer any questions a novice like me may have. They were also patient, fair and friendly. The fields were cool. There was a diversity between the fields that kept things interesting. Again, only being to a few, I don't have many to use for comparison. However, I feel as though some of the fields could have been larger. The layouts were great but, on some fields, one could literally shoot from one respawn area to the other without moving. Especially if that person had a sniper rifle and a decent scope. Though there was plenty of diversity between battlefields, they did tend to lean towards non-urban warfare, mostly. This could be due to the fact that it was basically inside a forest preserve. I tend to prefer this as a nature lover but, others looking for house to house or urban combat might not appreciate it as much. There were plenty of obstacles and assortments of cover to choose from. All in all, I believe this is a great place for the novice or the veteran airsofter/paintballer. They might want to consider experimenting with larger fields of play, or maybe combining two battlefields. When you've worked up an appetite, they will also grill up a cheeseburger for ya with an ice cold soda, for a price that's not too inflated. I will...
Read moreThe place is alright. $124 for entry and 1 case of paint is a bit steep in price. Especially if you are an experienced player and bring out pods.. one case of paint will get you 2 to 3 games as an experienced player. Especially if you're firing. If you show up after 12 the people that check you in will not tell you, but they take a mandatory half hour lunch break at 2 o'clock. So prepare to sit if you're not getting there in the morning. That would have been really nice to know when I was checking getting at 1:30pm, instead I sat for 1:30 before I got my first game in.
If this place had BYOP, it would smoke badlands. Due to the convenience in location and there's a little safe area where you get to take your mask off refill or drop off some of your extra paint. drink some water...whatever else. In between matches, which is ideal, because, you don't have to walk into the first game with so much extra paint on your back. I also liked the self fill stations alot. The referee we had was awesome. So those few amenities, and the ref being good people still does NOT equate or make up for the to overpriced while simultaneously being extremely poor quality paint.
I typically go to BADLANDS paintball because they DO have a BYOP policy. (With certain color exceptions) and even though its Missing some of the amenitie that legacy has. And if you go a decent amount and not once in a blue moon then BADLANDS is much more cost effective.
If you go to discount paintball, in elk grove village. Typically you can buy two cases of 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ posting for 90. Or 4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2 cases for 80 2⭐️⭐️ 2 for 60. And then entry into the field, it is 30. So instead of paying 124 for 1 case. Your paying 120 for 2 cases you being yourself and play all day. They have a legacy ever changes their policy. That would become my home field, and it easily get 10 outta 5 stars. But for now its 2. Or go with...
