I do not recommend these cabins or this company. I was very unhappy with my stay. My partner and I booked 2 nights at the Eagle’s Nest cabin recently. The drive in should have been a warning as you pass a rather large junkyard/trailer park with loose animals roaming around right before this property. Though when we arrived everything seemed fine outside. There was a sign on the door welcoming us by name which was very sweet. Once we got inside however we realized that the photos on their website were both outdated and expertly taken to exclude all of the bad parts of the cabin. Everything was just a little off, the appliances were old and mismatched and dirty. The bathroom with the shower and toilet was freezing and the shower was disintegrating and disgusting (no wonder why there isn’t a picture of that on the website!) We also did not realize that when we were renting an off season cabin that it would not have any central heat. The only heat source was the fireplace in the bedroom (which was lovely when working) and a space heater in the main area. On our first night we found out that there was no other heat when the pilot light to the fireplace went out in the middle of the night and wouldn’t spark/turn back on at first. We were absolutely freezing and the lighter provided in the cabin did not work. Neither of us got a wink of sleep after that. To top it all off because we slept so poorly we did not realize how much time had passed and we were unable to hike because we found out these cabins are 35 minutes away from hiking! That was my own oversight for not looking earlier, but holy cow these cabins aren’t even in hocking hills. We also found out that night that the hot tub was set to 105 (dangerously hot) and the buttons did not work properly to figure out in the dark so we had to wait until the following day to try the hot tub. The hot tub had a side missing with the internal heat protectant exposed, and there were rails missing on the deck where that was. And as I mentioned the buttons didn’t work properly and there were no instructions so it was almost impossible to get the temp set down to a reasonable temperature so we could get in. It took so much work and waiting that it was not worth it when we got in and had a lovely view of bulldozers and big equipment in the forest. This would have been more okay if the jacuzzi tub in the bedroom was in functional order. We found out upon arrival that it was constantly leaking. Then upon trying to use it you quickly discover that the hot water tank at the cabin is not large enough to fill the whole tub. About a quarter way full the water turns freezing cold, every time. And to make matters worse the seal on the plug is also not water tight, so there is consistent leaking out of the tub just as much as the faucet leaks water in when it is off. This made the only bath you could enjoy very empty and cold. Not that this is a huge deal but the couch in the cabin is also different than in the pictures. It is so tiny that us, a couple in their mid 20s, could barely sit on it together and be comfortable. And the bed, we weren’t even convinced that there was a mattress, it felt like two box springs with some foam it was so uncomfortable! The WiFi was in working order, which by the reviews in their book it seems like it had not been working for a while before our visit. The final straw for us was when we were trying to cook dinner on our second night there. The oven was old and broken. We cooked some chicken in the oven for 5 minutes before we found out it was completely black on the outside and frozen in the middle. We left that day and went home in the dark without staying our second night. I have stayed in Cabins in Hocking Hills multiple times and have always had a wonderful time. Even the small and affordable cabins like this are usually lovely for a small visit with a partner. This was the first time that was not the case! We were so excited for this vacation and did not have a lot of money, but we have learned our lesson. You get what you pay for! SO dont...

Most of the reviews for this place are glowing, and you may be tempted to ignore the few bad reviews. That was me. I had figured that there were just some very picky people, or an unfortunately bad weekend. Then I stayed here. And the place is certainly charming on the surface. But over the course of our three nights’ rental, trying to get basic housekeeping and maintenance completed was a great source of stress.
The first night, we discovered that the light fixture in the bedroom wasn’t working, and that the cold knob on the tub was broken. The next day, we contacted maintenance to let them know about the tub. After all, a light bulb will go out every now and then. But I also found after drawing a bath and waiting for it to cool, when I pulled the blinds up dirt and debris rained into the bathwater, there were multiple dead bugs along the windowsill, and there were cobwebs hanging from the corner around the tub. I did not want to take a bath there anymore.
Someone was supposed to come by Saturday to fix these issues. Late Sat, maintenance came, fiddled with the bathtub knob, and stated that he could not fix it because he did not have pliers. The maintenance man did not have pliers. Nothing was cleaned either. He stated that he would be back Sunday to fix the tub, and he would make sure that housekeeping was sent over as well.
Over the course of Sunday, my husband and I spent the day waiting for maintenance and housekeeping to show up, I sent out three emails in regards to the issues we were having, and no one came by to fix or clean anything.
Late Sunday, I received a response that they would be willing to offer $50 off a future stay. As if I would ever want to stay there again. In addition to the main concerns of the uncleanliness and broken tub at the place, there were many other small issues that may have been brushed off if this was not a $150 per night rental. There was months worth of dust caked on some things like the smoke detector and blinds, as well as in the corners. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and around the tub area. The couch was old and flaking pieces of itself off on everything. The hot tub cover was broken, the lining sagging into the water and middle seam exposed and rusted leaving flakes of rust in the hot tub water which we discovered on our first use and decided not to use again. The screen on the porch was sagging and broken, letting bugs in.
Although this is a cabin in the woods and certain levels of dirt and bugs are expected, the sort of dirt and bugs in the place were the results of months of poor housekeeping, and the broken fixtures that were present were not addressed while we were there. In addition, our request for a partial refund was refused. When I called and spoke to someone in regards to this, they attempted to blame us for months of buildup, although we conformed to the rental agreement.
Save yourself the money, time, and stress. Stay...
Read moreI'm not one to leave negative reviews of places, and as a small business owner myself I have no intention of leaving unfair feedback or doing anything that makes someone's job harder. However, my husband and I had a disappointing experience at one of these cabins which was topped off with unprofessional communication from the owner afterwards. I'm honestly shocked that this company has such glowing reviews and some of these reviews seem fishy to me, so I feel compelled to let others know what to possibly expect.
We stayed in the "Buckeye Hut" cabin for 1 night. Here are the pros and cons of the cabin:
The hot tub on the private back porch worked well. Cabin is a nice size for a couple. We enjoyed the living area with Roku TV, gas fireplace, and the large table to eat dinner. WiFi worked well. Check-in was easy. Company offers booking discounts.
Cons: the "fully stocked" kitchen is missing key items. Bed was uncomfortable - mattress is old and sunken in the middle, pillows were hard and they only provided a single thin blanket on a cold night. Shower was tiny, not enjoyable to use but works. CLEANLINESS - it looked like they did some basic cleaning but there was literally months' worth of dust caked on the ceiling fan, other high surfaces and vents. Back porch looked like it had never been swept, there was some dirt inside the hot tub. Fire pit was full of previous guests' trash including beer cans. No central heat / no thermostat, the gas fireplace is the only heat source, and we had issues operating it and keeping it running -- definitely needs major maintenance or replacement. The location is not walkable to anything and is 40 mins from the main hiking areas, even though their listings claim 10-15 mins. The location is not the most secluded and honestly seemed kind of sketchy.
I left private feedback for the owners via Airbnb on things they could improve. I was respectful in my feedback, thanked them for the stay, let them know the pros/cons/issues, hoping they could use the feedback to their benefit. Their response to private, constructive feedback was to leave me a dishonest, negative review on my public Airbnb profile. Very petty and unprofessional. So I would recommend booking elsewhere. I have stayed in other cabins in Hocking Hills and know that there are much better experiences at this price range.
Edit: I left a review on Facebook and the owners replied to say that we "broke cabin rules" and implied that we left it trashed. This was a lie - we left the cabin clean, all dishes washed, we even tied off our trash bags and set them out for them. This is what I always do at hotels and Airbnbs.
And now they've decided to leave me a nice comment on Google and say they're...
