This campground has an enormous property with a couple trails that rival some forest preserves, so plan a day to hike. There’s some beautiful sights with a great pallet of plants, so please clean your shoes before camping (to protect the seed bank).
We stayed here end-of-season, which I highly recommend if weather and planning allows.
Some practical/planning notes: No showers, so plan your bird-bath if you need one. Pit toilets available, well-constructed for squatting if you prefer. The sites closer to the entrance are very close to a water well and the pit toilet, are equipped with a large light (which you can turn on/off) and outlets. Very convenient and easy to drive into. Generous spacing. Lots of oak and hickory so bring sleeping pads for your tent if you’re in the season during which they drop nuts. The back sites that are further along the blue trail are singular in their beauty and very well isolated, if you’re looking for something different.
Overall we were truly impressed, recommend this site to anyone who loves the outdoors, and would stop here...
