My partner and I recently visited the Viking Nordic Center on a quick trip up to VT from Boston. We have both been living in New England for all of our adult lives, and finally wanted to try out some winter sports... having grown up in Ohio & Texas, skiing was not a favored family activity like it is for many New Englanders.
Cross-country skiing proved to be quite challenging (& humbling,) but we had such a positive experience! I could not think of a better first-time experience. The rental process was simple, the snow and trails were gorgeous. Pam (presumably the owner, not sure) was very generous with her time and volunteered to give us a quick lesson in between helping other customers. It's a great spot for beginners! There were also more advanced skiers on the trials & designated trails for those looking for more difficult terrain. But the beginner trails were perfect for us.
Budget Friendly Tip: We didn't realize this upon arrival but were happy to receive a discounted rate because we arrived after 1pm.

Read moreCame with my girlfriend and 11 year old son, and we had a fantastic time. We came around 11am, and ended up XC skiing almost all day and night. They have activities for kids, and light a campfire around 5pm and do smores. The trails are beautiful, and mostly tracked. The night skiing was incredible, we loved it. Employees were very kind and helpful with us on our new experience. My son and I both have pretty good natural balance, so we didn't take a lesson, but some probably should....
