We have stayed at this campground a couple of times now over the years, each for an extended stay. This is our favorite campground on the coast. Here are the pros and cons:
Pros: Two walking paths to the beach. Awesome acess to the Discovery Trail. We can take off on our eBikes directly from the campground and we're on our way for a couple hour bike ride. Fairly isolated from major roads. Although, every once in a while, you'll here some punks racing up and down the small road up into the trees with their cars or motorcycles. Friendly staff. Never ever had a problem with them. Great job!! Accept packages relating to RV repair (we had to use this because our RV had problems last trip). Great location to either Long Beach or Illwaco. Sewer connections moved away from fresh water supply. This looks newer from what we remember. Great kids (and adults!) outdoor game area up front. Lawn is cut and toys were in fairly good condition.
Cons: Speed limit NOT enforced. Watch your kids - people can really be moving around the campground... both hitched and unhitched, large and small rigs alike. We saw no corrections and continued to see repeat offenders constantly. If you're reading this, Thousand Trails, please, please, please stress the speed limit with your patrons upon check-in and then occasionally patrol and enforce it. Sites are very close together. Causes problems maneuvering big trailers like ours in and out of sites. Noise level is high with people cranking music during the day, movie sound systems (until 2AM sometimes), and dogs constantly barking. There's almost as many dogs here as there are people. Some of the dogs have anxiety and bark and howl the whole time their owners are out. Hard to get a good signal for both AT&T or a Verizon. Have to use our cell antenna (and mast to host it up high) for Internet 4/5 G with careful aiming, but signal was still rough. Although sewer has been moved (a huge plus), the connections were moved too far to the extreme edges of the sites, now causing issues of your sewer hose being directly in your neighbor's front yard. 🤔 Ground wasps still on north trail. Could the campground get an exterminator in to finally take care of them, please? Many old RVs in bad condition (most of which had some strange people inhabiting. Ask me how I know 🤦). Some of them were completely falling apart or are heavily stained with moss. Other rules, such as no going past the electrical boxes, were not enforced. Check out the attached picture where these people setup their tent which crossed over onto two other sites (and over one site's sewer connection!)
Otherwise, we do quite like this spot and will return. Many of the cons can be addressed easily to elevate this to the next level - let's go,...
Read moreThe location is nice and the staff is wonderful. The big negative with Thousand Trails Long Beach is the practice of catering to sketchy and entitled full time campers. This campground could be great but no one wants to vacation in a place with the atmosphere of a low rent trailer park. First we were at the pool enjoying the sun and a woman in a site nearby started screaming obscenities outside at her husband about taking the dog out to relieve itself. After a solid half hour or so of this nonsense a staff member spoke to her after which she screamed at her husband some more. There was a woman behind us in space 118 with two dogs that were tethered outside a lot and barked incessantly . One of the dogs was an older lab puppy whom the woman put on a very long retractable lead which it fought against and ran through our campsite with the handle wrapped around its legs, terrified. This woman's reaction was to scream at the dog until it returned to her, then striking it several times with the side of a closed fist , yanking one of its collars off , yanking to the ground, then striking it on the hindquarters with an open hand . She was at this point doing this within the parameters of our campsite (64). We watched her strike the dog several times before I could take no more and came out of the RV and asked her to please stop. She kept shrieking at me that she did not hit the dog (we watched her) over and over while calling me "Sweetheart" and insisting she was a dog trainer. She and several of the "campers" surrounding us seemed to know each other as frequent long term residents and cut between the campsites regularly to each others' RVs. A family with a least 6 children living in a trailer with two truckloads of personal belongings moved spaces 3 times in a week , presumably to extend their stay. This is not the place for a peaceful or even fun or relaxing vacation ....it looks, sounds and feels like an encampment. And there should be a place for that but not a campground that members should be able to look forward to for spending leisure time. We will not return , nor will several other members we spoke with. Hopefully someone at corporate will take note and take steps to change this situation .so that members who wish to use this campground for recreational camping as it was intended can...
Read moreSo the spots are close together but hey that's somewhat normal for an RV campground. We had site #38 and I was very pleased with that site. It rained off and on and there was a couple puddles in front of our trailer that wasn't too bad. It's better to be closer to the office if there's a lot of rain in the forecast. The campsites closest to the beach tend to get flooded out if it's raining constantly. Choose wisely depending on whether!! Didn't have neighbors on either side of us for our week-long trip so that was a plus. If you find a even # spot you'll be good to go without extra sewer hose. I did bring extra hose just in case but didn't need it. Better safe than sorry although you could go buy one too. Once you get there it's first come first serve on either 50 amp or 30 amp service. The person behind us was generous enough to give us the 50 amp service because she was leaving soon and didn't need 50 amp like I did.
The property is well taken care of. We have a dog and there's plenty of room for him to roam around at our campsite and around the campgrounds. The bathrooms were clean and the laundry facility worked great for us and our kids clothes. The campground itself is close to Long Beach and all the shops and restaurants. We walked and rode our bikes the 300 yards to the beach daily sometimes multiple times a day. Some water on the trail but nothing to bad. For us this was the best part of the campground!!! Having the beach so close was fantastic. Especially with kids they can go from 0 to 100 pretty quickly and we can bug out at a moment's notice and get back to the trailer. The trail crosses right over the discovery trail which is a paved bike/walking/running path and we frequented that as well. Evening rides to the North Head lighthouse were common for us!
Bring your family, pedal bikes, beach toys, kite, barbecue ect and have fun!
Staff was very helpful and were out and about everyday. We had bad wind one day and my information about our trip that you're supposed to tape to your trailer blew off and the ranger brought it back and hand delivered it to me. Also very helpful when I was checking in and guided me to the best...
