What a tranquil and peaceful place!
My dad and I stayed in two of the walled tents for a night during our visit to the island mid week to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Check in for the walled tents, there are 5 total, is 2 o’clock. We arrived about 11 and parked and explored the grounds. We met the proprietor, Mari, who gave my dad a big hug and wished him a very happy birthday. I had messaged and talked to her earlier in the week to inquire about bringing our dog.
The walled tents are well equipped with a patio that has chairs and ottomans. Outside is also a hammock that is hung in two of the many trees that surround the tent. Further out overlooking the field are two Andaronk (spelling?) chairs for lounging.
Inside the walled tent is a very comfortable queen bed with four pillows, silky soft linens and extra layers for the cooler nights.
There isn’t electricity per se in the tent though there is a battery pack that powers the light and where you can charge your devices.
You’ll find a place to hang your things and a bin to stow your gear. In that lined bin is a small cooler to store food.
Utensils, wine glasses and mugs are also provided plus two towels. Along with local coffee and a tea selection.
One of my favorite things provided were the two hot water bottles. You fill those puppies up with the hot water (205 degree) available at the camp kitchen and put those next to you at night and you have a built in heater to keep you warm.
The camp kitchen has a sink, prep station, and microwave. It also is under cover where you’ll find more sitting areas with a wood burning fireplace (you can buy wood for $5 a bundle onsite). Here dad and I played cards after we ate dinner over looking the field of sheep and their garden.
They have a great bocce ball course too. We played a game and dad nearly skunked me 5 to 2.
In that same area are the bathrooms and showers. Very clean. Of the four bathrooms, two have showers. The showers are double headed rain showers. The hot water felt great after our adventuring around the island. We biked 25 miles, 3 miles of hiking, and even took a dip in the water at Shark Reef Sanctuary.
I almost forgot, there is a little camp store that has a good selection of snacks, gifts, and beverages (wine & NA sparkling waters). A lot that is local to the area.
Note to dog lovers - they have a cabin and two tent sites that dogs are permitted, not in the walled tents. Also kids under 14 are not allowed. On both counts, there are some exceptions with prior approval.
For light sleepers, you may want to bring some ear plugs. The sounds of the farm, forest, and nearby road could be a deterrent to a good night sleep.
The Lopez Cabins and Campground are about 2 miles from the ferry and perhaps another 3 miles to the village.
I’d highly recommend making this tranquil and peaceful place a spot to call home on your next visit to...
Read moreWhat a wonderful find !! I was so proud of myself for finding this gem of a place to stay. We stayed in the canvas Walled tent #2, which has a small walking path so hidden from the view of the field. The bed was comfortable and the attention to detail was impressive; from the mini battery-operated candles by the nightstand (which you can use the tray to carry things), flashlight, bath towels, plates/cutleries/cloth napkins/assortment of tea bags/French coffee press with coffee/cream/sugar - which Mariko (our host) would replenish daily if needed.||The kitchen/common area was also very well organized. Very nice to have hot water||Our very friendly host(owner) Mariko greeted us warmly when we arrived on our bikes from the ferry, and explained where things are, not only on the property but on the Lopez Island. She ensured we had reservations at restaurant. We were there on Tue/Wed night so we did not think it would be necessary to make a reservation but with limited restaurants, she highly recommended to make one. Both restaurants she recommended were absolutely fantastic! The first night we went to Blue Heron, which has locally sourced ingredients and menu, very friendly staff. For the 2nd night, we went to Setsunai. Although online it was not available, Mariko texted the owner and managed to find us a spot! Now that is a true Concierge service ! (We both work as hotel concierges in luxury properties in Vancouver)||The property is very peaceful and relaxing, if you are looking for a place to unwind from the city buzz, this is a perfect getaway spot. Just 20 mins cycling from the Ferry terminal and less than 10 mins to cycle to the village where everything is.||Thank you for making our mini getaway trip so perfect for us. We will for sure be recommending to everyone around us and hopefully we will be back again in the...
Read moreI stayed here with my son and we were told "children are not allowed" and "I must not have read" their website by the husband property owner our first morning as I washed our water bottles out before heading into town for coffee and breakfast. (I did read their website, but not the terms and conditions.) He also told me his wife was going to talk to me which made me even more anxious about the whole thing. I hope they make their website more explicit that this place is adults only. The other campers were very nice but I felt so surprised, judged, unwelcome, estranged from the other campers and self conscious, and scared (of being reprimanded again or of what happens at campground in the movies) that I think I will always remember it. I was basically ready to leave the island or stay at an inn until another business owner (an inn keeper renting us kayaks but the inn was full otherwise we would have switched) essentially reassured me that the island is child friendly and that this place is the oddity, they can call me to "talk to me" if they want ect! Very stressful experience for me! My four year old son even said he wanted to go after that, picking up on weird vibes! It was his birthday the previous day... I felt horrible. I was also told that the place was recently bought by new owners. I ran into the wife on a different day... she was nice but misguided me to a place for coffee that only had cold coffee even though she said they would have a hot coffee. (just go to Lopez grind and don't go anywhere else!!!!!) Not a huge deal but just horribly memorable customer service, being reprimanded and told we don't belong/aren't allowed on our first morning in that specific, vulnerable setting was extremely upsetting. Please change your website to be more clear and save unconfident campers from further...
