Disappointing Experience at Shenandoah Crossing Resort

As excited as we were to visit Shenandoah Crossing Resort, I can confidently say we will not be returning. While the resort itself boasts beautiful features and promising accommodations, our stay was overshadowed by significant cleanliness issues and a concerning lack of professionalism—especially considering this is marketed as a high-standard resort experience.

We stayed in one of the townhomes, which we actually paid to upgrade into. Upon arrival, it was clear that while the unit had been “prepared” (beds made, toiletries stocked), it had not been cleaned to any acceptable standard. The return vents were visibly dusty and dirty. As we made our way to the master bedroom, we were immediately struck by a strong odor. The carpeting clearly needed deep cleaning. The jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom was also filthy. Although housekeeping arrived promptly after we raised concerns (which we appreciated), the situation worsened when we turned on the jets for a bath and were horrified to see mold and grime swirl throughout the water.

We made the best of things, used the showers instead, and enjoyed parts of our first day—mini golf and visiting the horses were lovely experiences. However, our trip took another turn when we visited the pool. Our children were excited to swim, but we quickly pulled them out of the smaller pool due to its visibly dirty condition. It was genuinely disappointing and concerning, especially at a family-friendly resort.

As part of our Bluegreen Resorts package, we were required to attend a two-hour timeshare presentation. We fully understood this and cooperated, even while juggling a teething toddler and an energetic six-year-old. We explained early on that we were not in a position to make a purchase. While the first representative was respectful and simply doing his job, things took a turn when the head sales rep joined us. After keeping us far longer than necessary, he left us with dismissive and disrespectful remarks once we declined the offer. The entire interaction felt incredibly unprofessional, and the high-pressure sales tactics—particularly after we had already declined—were unacceptable.

On our final night, things hit a low point: we discovered cockroaches in the kitchen of our townhome. I immediately contacted the front desk and sent photos. While they apologized, I specifically asked for a manager to follow up, and no one ever did.

It’s worth noting that everyone’s experience may be different. However, I can’t help but feel that because we chose not to purchase a timeshare, we were treated with less care and regard. That, combined with the poor condition of our accommodations, left us deeply disappointed. This was our first and last stay with...

To start, love this place, highly recommend if you are a family on a budget looking for a all in one place vacation for your kids. This is the place. I will be back.

PROS: The Pros heavily outweigh the Cons.

Huge outdoor pool area by the country store. Giant Checkers & Chess Outdoor pool & Indoor pool by the Lodge/Main hotel area. Cabin & Yurt rentals, RV Parking, and the hotel part is very clean. Arcade, pool tables, & ping ping table. Horse back riding (About $10 to much in my opinion) Golf Cart rental (Again, about $10-$20 to much in my opinion) Daily activities every hour (arts, crafts, games, ect) Weekly events (music, shows, fun kids activities - They only do these during the Wednesday-Saturday time frame) 3-5 different playgrounds for all ages. Tennis Courts, Basketball, Put Put, Canos, Fishing, Ect. (All Included) Drawers in the lodge room bathrooms actually work and have space to store things. The staff is nice, but in a hands off way.

CONS: These are SMALL complaints. Overall this place is fantastic. This is just coming from a single mom who traveled with kids alone.

Trash cans in the rooms are to small. No Bathtubs in the main hotel/lodge rooms, only stand up showers. So if you have small kids that still bath instead of shower, stay at a cabin or yurt. There is nothing to hold the heavy doors open when your trying to unload bags into the room. There is no complimentary breakfast anything. No lobby coffee. No toasters. They have a microwave on the 1st and 2nd floor if your staying at the lodge, complimentary water out of a jug, and a fridge in the rooms. But thats it, so pack accordingly. Their lobby restaurant is closed on Mondays. Coffee pods in the room are NOT good. Honestly I think they are just for show. The staff WILL watch you struggle to get your luggage in through the front door and upstairs. They will smile and be nice during it, but will just stand there. The fact that they don't have maps of the property or events just printed and on hand is definitely a weird one. You have to take pictures of everything if you want to know where and when everything is.

Overall, I give this place 4.5 Stars. I will be back with my boys every year we possibly can. And I suggest, if you are a single parent on a budget, make sure to bring groceries and bug spray, but outside of that, you will get a chance to sit and relax while your kids are occupied...

I don’t want to write a book but would like to share my experience. We “bought” a reduced price stay at a resort in exchange for attending a “no pressure meeting” that was to last between 30 minutes and an hour. We picked the rolling hills of Virginia to spend our time. Shenandoah valley was our destination. Booked for my wife, my son, and myself. Booking was tough and it was then that I found out everything I was told by the guy that sold me the package was wrong. Now my wife has to attend the meeting with me and it will be 2 hrs long. Ok, ok, so we booked and wanted to just get it over with and move on with our lives. We showed up and got even more new information… it was starting to get exhausting so I told my wife to head to the room and I’d take care of this. Started to get things straightened out when my wife comes back out to me and says “ this isn’t going to work, we were given a tiny room with one queen bed”. So I finished and went to view our room, she was right, no way we can all stay in this room. Back out to the front desk to see if they could help. Was not helped but instead directed to the concierge desk where I was told to go back to the front desk because they don’t deal with the rooms. So I went back and told the lady I was just sent back to her. So she disappeared for a few minutes through a door right by the counter and when she came back it seemed like she didn’t quite know what to say when another lady rudely told me that it was a very busy weekend and that’s all they have available for us. Well, no chance your gonna get me to buy more time like that! Lol. Needless to say I slept in the back of our car with my son!!! The next morning we went to the meeting which was drug out over 3 hrs! Eventually I told the salesman that nothing this company has told me since day one was accurate and I don’t trust anyone associated with the company including him and that it was time for me to go. They really try to talk you into needing this and how much money it’s going to save you. But in the end, they can’t even impress you with what they’re about to sell you. I mean I can go so many places for absolutely free and sleep in the back of my car!! No thanks blue green! I’m good on my own. Look at the owner reviews, they speak for...

I visited this location after purchasing the timeshare sales pitch from a Bass Pro Shop. To be perfectly honest, I have mixed feelings. They called us three hours before our check-In time to confirm information about how many guests were coming (Which they should've already known from our booking information), how many cars, and ETA of our arrival. Let's start with the required sales pitch. They are very open and accepting of the fact that many people buy it for the discounted stay. They do not try to pressure you into buying a timeshare (though they are salespeople and do still pitch it). Although I did leave owning a timeshare, they were really ok with you just saying "no thank you." It didn't take too long and they have complementary snacks, coffee, and a pretty good variety of teas. I am not going to tell you everything we went over in the presentation, but I will tell you that they do a soft credit score when you get to the presentation (Does not effect credit unless you do buy the timeshare). Now for the actual place we stayed: I was rather disappointed with the actual room, but otherwise it was really nice. The room was really small and we got an ant problem the third day that we were there. You do NOT get housekeeping services if you are staying in the lodge for the promotional visits. We had a minifridge and a microwave, a small cupboard with a few pool towels, and a small TV. There was barely enough room to walk around the room if there is more than one person. There is no table nor desk, so be prepared if you work on the go, and no couch or chairs so you'll have to lounge in bed if you want to hang out in the room. Besides the room, the location was fantastic, there are cabins, yurts, and camping. There is a general store on site that also has a food service. It is not gourmet food, but I thought it was really fitting. You get a lot of food for the price too, which is outstanding. They have horses on site that you can ride, and they are often seen taken around the site. You can see almost everyone gathering around the horse fields in the evening to take pictures of the sunset, so if you like sunsets, this is a great place for you. But I certainly recommend not staying in the lodge itself.

I stay at nice resorts all across the US via my time share company. I am also a member of Choice Hotels International. I was offered a special package deal here for 4 days and 3 nights, agreeing to attend a BlueGreen Vacations talk (to become a paying member). First off the location is beautiful, quiet and far off the beaten path. After that fact, things went downhill. Here’s why . . . There were no king size beds in the main, older resort building. Only the Yurts and select cabins had king size beds. Rooms were quite small, nearly impossible to even get luggage cart into the room. Cooling system was deplorable. You either froze to death or comfortable temperature was plagued with the room was then full of muggy humidity. Bed was not comfortable at all. TV was broke. No microwave in room though advertised. TV was finally fixed but picture was very blurry on all channels. Cafeteria was not open for breakfast the entire time we stayed. That’s inexcusable. Staff didn’t even offer the choice of muffins or fruit like a simple continental complimentary breakfast. We were forced to drive a fair distance to Gordonsville town to eat at a very limited selection of restaurants. Indoor pool was not open. Second pool area was not open. At least third pool area was open with 2 spa pools, though one had nonfunctional jets. Get this, the BlueGreen Vacations presentation and tour lasted well over 4 hours. They were determined to run down our time share we owned and show us how excellent their points system option was. They wanted over $71 thousand to buy in to BlueGreen Vacations 20,000 points per year package. OMG! No thanks! Now for the sucker punch… One day at around 5 pm, the alarm system went off. We had to evacuate the building. It was shut down for over an hour. Did staff bother to call residents to let us know building was cleared for re-entry? Nope. I had to keep calling until the front desk finally answered. They had NO idea what happened. Oh well… Will I ever stay here again? No way…not even if it was for free. My wife and I were so glad to finally return home. The whole experience was exhausting.😟👎
