I feel like I must first place a disclaimer on this entry. I will stay as close to the facts as possible before stating my personal opinion.
Extended Stay America has once been know among all business travelers that needed a place to live that is more like an apartment than a hotel, hence the namesake. In my personal experience, I have heard many stories of fellow colleagues that would definitely recommend this as a better option if you want to be able to cook, store elements in a larger fridge, and wash/store dishes.
After driving from Florida to Kentucky, I decided to go online and book the nearest place to stay. I pulled over and saw that many places I enjoyed in the past were around the same price, Extended Stay America was $10 less expensive. The following was the price I paid to save ten dollars.
The lobby closes at 8pm. No one will be there to greet you. Entry to the lobby is through a door that is extremely difficult to open, as it sticks. A resident had to tell us that the door needs a good, strong tug to open. An uncomfortably small lobby was enough room for maybe a few people to occupy before its full. The next door is security controlled via access card. A sign with instructions to dial a specific number was provided for check-in after 8 p.m. After calling, there was a brief wait of 5 minutes until the staff was able to open the screen to proceed with processing. The outside was super filthy, which was mirrored by the lobby floor. Since it was after midnight, I decided to proceed and ignore the obvious red flags.
The halls. Cleanliness did not improve after passing the secured entrance. Immediately, we experienced a heavy stench of mixed smoke of cigarettes, cigars, and marijuana. Ironically, there are clearly posted signs everywhere claiming to be a smoke free environment. The elevator was super filthy with smears and smudges on the walls, trash on the floor, and heavy scrape marks on the display that only read FC instead of the current floor number. Exiting on the third floor, the hope was that the air would clear of all the smoke-filled smells. It was actually so thick that only one thing kept me going to the room: exhaustion. I had to stay as I was too tired to find another habitat for the night.
The room. There was no way to confirm that the sheets or towels were clean based on the state of the room. The cooking area still had grease from a previous tenant. The walls were dirty. The tub was not clean. Worst of all... the roaches. I killed two of them. After disposing of them, I did not see any more.
Microtransactions. This hotel has a lot of potential charges. If you don't walk your own trash to the dumpster outside, if you smoke inside the building, even if you placed a call on the room phone that didn't connect... all result in extra charges. Sadly, the one microtransaction I would have preferred was for coffee in the room... alas, there was none.
Checkout. This was fairly standard and easy. Leave the keys in the room when you leave. That's it.
The following is my personal opinion based off this experience. Buyers beware. Choose ANYWHERE else but here. If it wasn't for the residents that appeared (not confirmed) to live here permanently, I would actually motion to have this building condemned. However, I am but one weary traveler. I'm sure that the owners of Extended Stay America are well aware of this location and have actively weighed their options to remain open. I hope this review helps some of you understand that the $10 monetary savings cost more in the end. I leave you with this: how much is "Peace Of Mind"...
Read moreMy wife and 16-year-old daughter's experience at the Extended Stay Hotel in South Kentucky (6310 Commerce Park Ct Fairdale KY 40118) was nothing short of deplorable. Upon checking in, my wife and the other traveling mothers with their daughters (Volleyball Tournament) immediately noticed the unsanitary conditions of the rooms, including soiled bedding, broken pipes, raw sewage, and moldy air conditioning. This not only posed immediate health concerns but also made their 30-minute stay completely unlivable. Additionally, the rude and disrespectful behavior of the employees, particularly Samantha, only added to their dissatisfaction. Her condescending attitude and lack of professionalism were completely unacceptable. Furthermore, the fraudulent charges made to our account and the threat of involving the police when she questioned them only added to the distress of their experience.
The unprofessional behavior displayed by the employees, particularly Samantha, was completely unacceptable. Her rudeness and condescending attitude towards my wife and the traveling mothers, as paying customers, was not only disrespectful but also added to the overall negative experience they had at the hotel.
The poor customer service they received at the Extended Stay Hotel was extremely disappointing. Not only were the employees rude and unhelpful (Melanie the General Manager who promised us a full refund via email, was disregarded by Eric the Regional Manager when he informed Samantha to make fraudulent and unauthorized charges to my bank account, even under another mother’s reservation/confirmation number) - the fraudulent charges made to our account and the threat of involving the police when we questioned them were completely unjustifiable. As paying customers, we expected to be treated with respect and courtesy, neither of which were provided during our stay.
The hotel itself was poorly maintained, with deplorable rooms and unsanitary conditions. The presence of mold and mildew in the rooms immediately caused health problems for us, and the broken pipes and raw sewage only added to the overall discomfort of our stay. It is clear that the hotel does not prioritize the cleanliness and maintenance of their facilities, which is completely unacceptable for a hospitality establishment.
As a husband, I am ever the more concerned about the welfare and safety of my wife and daughter. As a woman traveling alone with my daughter, I expected them to feel safe and comfortable during their stay at the hotel. However, the disrespectful and threatening behavior of the employees, particularly Samantha, only added to the feeling of unease and discomfort. No guest should have to endure such treatment during their stay, regardless of their gender or marital status.
Given the appalling conditions of the hotel and the fraudulent charges made to our account, we demand an immediate refund of the full amount we were charged. We will not tolerate such unprofessional and unethical behavior, and if the FULL refund is not issued promptly, we will pursue legal action against the hotel for fraudulent activity and acts of racism. It is imperative that the hotel takes responsibility for their actions and provides us with the refund we are rightfully owed without delay.
I look forward to an...
Read moreMy pregnant wife and I were traveling to Louisville and she booked a hotel room at Extended Stay while we were driving from Florida, because it was the closest hotel to where we wanted to be the next day. We arrived to the hotel at approximately 12:45 AM and nobody was there to help us. The partition to the front desk was closed and there was a phone on the wall for us to call to check in. We were told on the phone that we were not allowed to check in and that an employee was at the hotel, but they were not willing to help us. I even mentioned how my wife was pregnant, that it was already so late, and she just wanted to rest; it did not matter to them. While we were there trying to get a room for the night, a guest was telling another guest in the hallway how he just got of jail. With all that being said, we left what I felt was a seedy hotel and we just decided to drive all the way home and just skip our stop in Louisville.
We called corporate in the morning to request our money back since we showed up there and we were refused a room. We were told that the decision was up to the manager (I will identify her as Manager M.) and Manager M. is refusing to refund our money since we were a “no show.” We continually stated that we were there, so there is no way that we could be considered a “no show.” My wife scoured their website and there is NOTHING about what time we have to show up to check in by if we booked a room for the night. It’s a 24 hour business and I can’t think of one other hotel franchise that would have such a ridiculous policy and then to not even notify customers of it. It seems really shady in my opinion. We called our credit card company to stop the payment and they stated that it was something we had to talk to Manager M. about.
I called the hotel and the front desk employee told me that Manager M. was not there. I informed the front desk employee that my credit card company just spoke to her on the telephone and that she was there. The employee put me on hold and came back a few minutes later and stated that Manager M. was “indisposed” and that she will call me back. That was over two weeks ago and nobody from corporate or Manager M. has called me back or refunded us our money. In my opinion, Manager M. intentionally avoided me on the telephone when I called and she instructed her subordinate that she wasn’t there any more. If that is true, that is extremely unprofessional.
To say that I am absolutely appalled by the treatment from this hotel towards me and my pregnant wife, that just wanted to rest in her condition after such a long road trip, is an understatement. To think that this hotel is a franchise and corporate allows such behavior is unbelievable. I will never attempt to stay at any of the Extended Stay hotels ever again considering how the hotel and corporate handled, or not handled, this situation. I will never recommend this hotel or the franchise…...
