Set up early. I've wanted to go here since 1996. Never even drove up here. Been by many times. This is on the back side, the west, of the Five Springs thrust fault. This is a BLM campground. It is really well maintained. And at $7 a night, what's not to love? Bathrooms are clean and though the drive on the old highway 14 is a narrow nail biter, it is PAVED now. Did not used to be. This is about 10 miles past Medicine Wheel around d the corner. You might even be able to see this campground from that area if you look DOWN. Maybe no bears, but this looks like prime cat country. So be prepared. You can actually pull a small trailer up here. The road is that good. Just dont get scared and think you're going to turn around halfway. There's an upper amd lower campground. The handicap signs.do NOT indicate only the handicapped can camp in those spots. I talked with BLM that were here and they said that they're there bcs those are sites that could handle a wheelchair and the fire pits are made so you could be around it in a wheelchair. I'm in site 17 and while it has no picnic table, it does have it's own trash can. It's the last site before the end turnaround and gate. NICE place and the steep and narrow drive keeps a lot of folks away, I imagine. There are quite a lot of flies and mosquitoes as well as black ants here end of July. A little breezy up here, but bring bug spray. I really dont see any handy firewood. Lots if pine cones though. Tress here are mostly firs. Shrubby cedars are here too. Nice gravel and leveled camping pads. The lower site by the falls trailhead are all walk in tent sites except for one that is handicap accessible. Again, you can still camp there if you are not disabled. GO HERE AND YOU WILL...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing campground. Some sites are pretty easy to drive up, but most an easy walk with a cute gravel path. Pit toilets clean, plenty of trash cans, and water was turned on (July 2,2020). We were worried it would be full because of the great reviews and holiday but almost all of the sites were open!! Some sites were super close to the rushing creek with tables and others more open and bare bones. Lovely and pretty easy hike to the falls, with some bouldering involved...
Read moreThis campground is beautiful. The sites are level and each equipped with a bear box, an animal proof garbage can, a fire ring and very sturdy metal grate picnic tables. They all are on or near the creek and sheltered by trees. Sites are well spaced out and feel private. There is potable water at the entrance to the campground. The only downside is you do need to walk to most of the sites, but the walk for most isn't more than a few...
