We were going to stay at the Lumberton KOA on the first part of our South Carolina vacation, but we had a flat tire on the motorcoach. With KOA 's cancellation policy, we could get no refund, so we moved the one-night stay to the end of our vacation. KOA Lumberton, on either occasion, making the reservation or moving the reservation, failed to tell us that there was road construction all around the campground. To get in from the south, we had to meander through the country from I-95. To leave the campground to get to I-95 north we had to drive through the construction and narrow rough road, and even stop for the road construction itself. KOA Lumberton (the attendant was very polite and friendly) also failed to tell us that there was actual construction going on in the campground, though it is needed very badly. Earlier, I reserved a pull-through site as we tow a car behind our motorcoach. The site I got had the front bumper of the coach at the "street" and the rear bumper of the car at the edge of the other "street." I use the term "street" because some were asphalt but most were broken, crumbled asphalt or dirt and gravel. We had non- towing class C RV's on either side of us and the bigger motorhomes and fifth-wheels were all on larger sites. There were many vacant sites, large and small. After we arrived, KOA Lumberton informed us that the water was to be turned off for a half hour at 10:30 the morning of our departure. As this was our last night out, I had to get up and do the flush out before the water was turned off, which stayed off more like an hour. We camped there years ago when it was a Yogi Bear franchisee. Most of the roads and sites look like they haven't been improved since then. We saw some newer patio and tent sites. Even though the grounds maintenance people keep what's there well, it still looks neglected. I was charged, with a discount, $71+. I'd have been better off a a rest area or a Walmart. If this is KOA, no thanks!

This was my first time staying at a KOA but it was not the first time for my wife. So the review is two part with her thoughts and my thoughts. For her the KOA was different have been others . And that may be because it was labeled 'Journey' KOA. Presumably Journey that may mean for drive through types, not a stay and play. However the grounds did advertise having an air pillow jumpy apparatus as well as lawn games like checkers and skee ball. There was nothing there of that sort. Despite the missing amenities our stay was a good one. The staff was super friendly, coming by a few times and ask if everything is okay. Hellos were exchanged with smiles every time we crossed paths. The travellers were as equally friendly. The swimming pool was a mainstay for us. It was hot and it was great fun and relief at the same time. The kids enjoyed it. On my end it was the first time staying at a KOA. My experience was a positive one overall. The walking trail was great to venture on in the evening when it was cooler. The electrical outlets gave a nice combination of outdoor camping while maintaining some comforts. Unlike some of the other campsites that I've been to oh, this one had in normal stand up barbecue that I was use to. And it also offered a fire pit. The bathrooms were a lovely upgrade from other campsites I've been too. It had 3 or 4 rooms in the key paded the bathroom facility. Each room was a personal bathroom that consisted of a toilet, shower, sink and on wall rack. The were clean and water pressure was good. Although the location did not have all of the amenities that my wife expected we did have a great time. The kids had a great time as well too. It was a positive experience.

The campground was clean and the water, electric, and sewer worked as they should. The staff is friendly and the campground keeps you informed of everything through text message. Checking in and out was a breeze. There were a few things that bothered me. The Wi-Fi service did not work at all. And I tried it on multiple devices over a 72 hour period. And it bothers me a lot more because right on their website when you go to book, it states that they have great Wi-Fi. I included a screenshot of their website. The other thing that bothered me is the price they charge for Camp wood, which is $12 for a small bundle. Now I know prices have gone up on everything but that’s highway robbery for some firewood. And then they say that you cannot bring outside firewood even if you’ve purchased it locally. So the reason for the four star review is nonexistent Wi-Fi along with the rip off price of firewood. Thank goodness that I was able to get a good signal on My Verizon smart phone and use it as a hotspot. Again, I understand that you don’t go camping to be on the Internet, but some people like to have some access to it. And if you are going to advertise that you have great Wi-Fi, well having no Wi-Fi access is false advertising. If I didn’t want Wi-Fi access, then I would save $40 a night and stay at a state park.

This KOA is right off I-95 and I-74 which is super convenient. Grocery stores and many restaurants nearby. Door dash delivers too!. The staff was friendly and polite. The dog park is large and well kept. There is a smaller one near the entrance. Sites are level. We chose #53 with a patio and table with chairs as well as a picnic table, fire ring, and BBQ grill, all on a cement pad. There is even a grill brush provided for your use. The internet was not very strong out at our site so we used our hotspot. Not a huge deal for us but if you are counting on movies and gaming for the kids, it might be an issue. It rained fairly hard for hours and the two sites next to us took on a lot of water but because the driveways are rock, they had drained completely by morning. The camp store has all the small items you might need from food, beer, to RV supplies. Like all KOAs, you will pay double for the convenience. They also have local items for purchase as well. The gem of this KOA, (other than the A+ sites) is the small trail that follows along a canal behind the campground leading to a bend in the Lumber River. It is so picturesque with the moss hanging from the trees around this wooded pathway. It was beautiful and so quiet. There is a picnic table and trash can along the path if you want to go back and have your lunch in peace and quiet. Where the canal meets the river there are benches for you to sit in solitude and shake off the I-95 ugliness and mentally ready yourself for the rest of your trip. Lots of overnight RVs stopping in and leaving during our two-night stay but honestly, we didn’t even know when new ones arrived until we walked out and saw them there. The road noise from the freeway couldn’t even be heard over our A/C and even when it wasn’t running it wasn’t noticeable for the most part. You get used to it fast as the campground is just far enough away. This KOA in Lumberton is well maintained and quiet. We will make this a regular I-95 stopover. (We did not visit the pool, bathhouse/restrooms, playground, or use any of the available...
