Room 18. NO COLD WATER. The cold faucet was hot (too hot to use alone), and the hot was SCALDING. Owner isn't answering calls and the office is offering $5 cash for our troubles. Turns out it's also a known issue but they rent this room anyway. Oh, and the bed was also terrible. If they attempt to change for this experience, I'll count on my credit card company to reverse the charges.
Edit after visit with owner: Wow. I was asked why I didn't just go home rather than staying after discovering a lack of usable water at 9pm in an area with no vacancies. I was then asked if the water was really THAT hot, since someone had just stayed 3 days w/o complaint. (They also denied awareness of the issue, despite the office lady telling my husband moments earlier that others had complained, and that she had told the owners they would probably need to dig under the room to fix the problem. She began denying/changing that story when the owner appeared.) I invited the owner to go with me to the room to see for herself. She proceeded to stand with her hand under the hot water coming from the cold tap, saying that everyone is different and has different tolerance for hot water... As though I'm a spoiled princess for expecting to shower in water that's not uncomfortably hot. Truly unbelievable. I've stayed in lots of places. Some great, some not so great. This takes 1st prize for the absolute worst. One star is too many, but zero...
Read moreBefore I get into the very few negatives about this place, let me start off by saying: They have some of the nicest staff that I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. I wish other places had the same kind of employees. The room itself was nice for the price that was paid and the view of the mountains was gorgeous For me, I stayed in room 18 which is nearly up at the top of the main units.
The first negative is:
The wifi barely reaches up to here. While the internet is connected, it does not continuously stay strong unless I am close to one side of the room.
The shower is short. I am 6'4 and unfortunately have back problems from a car accident I was in last year. The shower head / water only reached up to my shoulder
(also, a note to the owner if he should read this, the faucet for the water in the tub is not caulked to the wall properly so, it's just very wiggly, and same thing with the shower head)
I understand that for the price it was amazing, but I just can not rate it a full 5/5
Just to reiterate though.. Major props to the employees who have been so pleasant and professional throughout my visit here :)
I would definitely stay again if I'm in the area (hopefully just a different room lol)
EDITED TO A 5 STAR DUE TO OWNER'S QUICK AND CONCISE COMMUNICATION ABOUT ISSUES...
Read moreI booked one night at the Hillside Motel, because of the reviews and rate, while visiting Luray Caverns. Although it is an older motel, it was very clean and had a refrigerator, microwave, air conditioner, smoke detector, blow dryer, soap and shampoo, and coffee maker in the room. All the amenities other chain hotels have, with the exception of having a great rating. (The chain hotels in the area did not have the best rating.) The staff, who I believe is who own the motel, were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the pool, with the mountains in the background. The beds were very comfortable with crisp sheets. The towels really smelled wonderful. We were there on a Tues night and it was very quiet, which I really enjoyed. Yes, there is an outside light which can be seen through the window, however, I liked that, in case my grandchildren got up in the middle of the night, they could see where they were going. When I asked about a good, local place to eat, Uncle Bucks was recommended, which had good food and fair prices. For those which may have mobility issues, there are a few steps to climb to get to your room, which means carrying your luggage up a few steps. But they may have a few rooms...
