Great Escape Motor Lodge — Hotel in Lyon Township

This motel is off the beaten path but not too far from the most clear spectacular lake in north america. Higgins Lake.Its only a few short miles from Houghton Lake. The Great Escape Motor Lodge is a mom and pop place that sends you back to a more simpler, slower pace time. The rooms are clean, and there are family suites with a sitting area and kitchenette. Every room is different with nice homely touches..There are no phones in the room. Keeping it personal with the owners. There is a indoor heated pool. Beware of their cancellation policy - we had to cancel 52 hours ahead of time due to illness. They kept all of our money for a 4 night stay. Cancellation policy 72 hours for the total bill. I can understand losing the money for the 1st night as a deposit, the other 3 days were cancelled within the 72 hour window and should be refunded. Keeping all the money is bad for business, especially since they were weeknights we had booked, not even prime...

This location was great for site seeing around Houghton Lake and Higgins Lake as well as Roscommon. The buildings are old and the rooms are small but they used the space to its fullest. They had plenty of towels, toiletries, microwave, refrigerator and were very clean.
