Thank GOD I left. The new managers are horrible people and neither of them have an education past the 8th grade. The front office skillset isn't very broad yet neither of them know how to manage an RV park office. I'd highly suggest they start out at a local Taco Bell and gain some valuable "managerial" experience before bragging that they're managers of an RV park. The owners of this place could care less. They have had numerous complaints about the new managers, yet they do nothing.

There's no swimming pool despite them saying there's one in the park. They lie about everything here.

I sent the owners Lee and Dora a lengthy email after a run-in with the new managers. They did nothing about it.

Reduced version of the email:

Around 9:30 PM, my girlfriend and I were outside and noticed a small car speeding down the paved section of the park. Soon after we see a truck going just as fast following the same direction at a high rate of speed. Now, I would conservatively say both vehicles were going in excess of 50 MPH! Both vehicles went about the same speed after the turn onto the gravel section leading to the river. About 10 minutes had passed and we saw both vehicles racing back towards the entrance of the park. As the first car sped down the paved lane (Again, excess of 50 MPH), someone (I think the lady manager) in a group of people at the new managers site yelled: "Slow your ass down". Soon after the same truck sped down the lane faster than any vehicle I could imagine doing that on that small road. I yelled over to them: "why don't you guys do something other than just sit there"? I did not curse at them, it's not in my nature. I was pissed that this kept happening. Previously to all of this, there had been several cars and trucks going much faster than 10 MPH through the park. Any other time Terry would have been yelling at people like he's a friggin cop but he is way more guilty of speeding through the park all the time. Once they got out on Trawalter Lane, they likely hit 80 MPH. About 15 minutes after we got back to my site, that's when Terry came storming down to my site on the verge of violence. Coming at me like he was going to hit me. He started off by saying, I swear to God if you disrespect my wife like that again....I interrupted with "like what"? That's when I started filming him. He saw my phone that I was recording him and he quickly retracted he aggression a bit. Had he hit me, the story that I'm telling you would have taken a worse path. He was pissed because of my "attitude". Yeah, anyone would have an attitude and be pissed if they had witnessed that sort of behavior. Cars, trucks racing through the park at dangerous speeds. I had no idea that it was him in the truck which made things a lot worse. Why would he be chasing a vehicle through the park at such crazy speeds? All he had to do was block the lane at the corner near the laundry room and call the police. I said this to him and all he could say was: Don't tell me what to do, I'm the manager and can do whatever I want. I'm thinking: "Well, fine then do what you want". The argument went back and forth and I told him that I was just going to call the cops. I wasn't going to stand there and let things turn violent. It's certainly what he wanted. I called Bexar County 911 at 9:45 PM. They created a case and engaged the Von Ormy Police. They arrived at about 10:00 PM and I told them what had happened. The office went over and talked to them and he returned about 15 minutes later to finish talking to me. These are the exact words the officer said to me and my girlfriend: "he's not a good manager at all". I wanted Terry to know that I wasn't going to put up with his BS and that I was going to file a report against him in case he was going to try and retaliate later in the future. Lee, I'm telling you if this guy keeps doing this, acting like he's the King of all Cops in your park, he will become a liability to you and your partners. He's going to do this to...

I wouldn't call this place "amazing". I have traveled all over this country and stayed in many RV parks and this is the first time that I have had this kind of experience. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't "amazing" either.

The nice things first.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The campground is clean and well kept. It is spacious and orderly. They have showers, laundry, propane and basic wifi. They have a shop and some groceries. They have office facilities where you can print, copy and fax. You can also swim at your own risk in the river and fish there as well.

Now for the problem areas.

They don't tell you that right next door (across the fence) is a HUGE dog lot. You can satellite this area and see the dog farm. They must be breeding them or something because it sounds like there are HUNDREDS of dogs. They start barking early in the morning and keep it up all day. It is quite daunting. The only good thing about the daily 100+ degree heat is that the A/C drowns them out - for the most part. This is most applicable to those folks who are staying daily and weekly. Those who are located further inside the park won't be affected by it.

In order to get into the park you have to pass an inspection process. They look over your rig and determine if it meets with their standards. Now, if you get into the park and look around you will see rigs that have been there for YEARS and aren't so nice looking. They do keep those out of sight further back in the park, but they are still there.

If you want to stay monthly, which isn't very likely, you have to go through a "vetting" process. They run a check on you to see just what the deal is where you are concerned. They won't tell you that on the phone though.

WIFI

Bring your own if you want to access the net without issues.

Yes, they have at least 4 antennas in the park and two of them look like they have nice strong signals. NOT! They look that way, but try accessing something as simple as Facebook and see what happens. What would normally take a few minutes, could take 30 minutes or even an hour. That includes the switching between antennas to try and get done what you want. Most long term people here all have their own WIFI.

And if you are long term (monthly) you pay for your own power. All sites are metered, but monthly pays and the cost is like $0.11 kilowatt hours or something similar. During the heat wave you could pay upwards of $150 or more (depending on your rig) a month in electric in addition to your lot rent which starts at around $450 or better a month. Depending on the type of site you get.

Animals.

They have preferences where dogs are concerned. You can't just bring any old dog in. They have a list of what they won't allow when you check in. Rottweilers are on the list.

Overall, if you are staying for a day or two, it's okay, but anything longer, you might want to re-think things. If you like peace and quiet - you won't like it here. That is unless you are deaf to dogs barking. Then you might find...

The first time I came to Alamo River Resort I was very surprised. We saw advertisments for riding trails and decided to check it out. The "top" part of the park is the standard RV resort with pull ins for rigs, restroom, and other amenities. The owners are very nice and happy to talk with you and answer any questions. As you follow the road, you turn a corner and drop down into the river basin and everything changes. You descend into a cool, green world of forests and river. The camps sites nestle among tall trees and the river bounds the whole area. Since we came for horse back riding, our main experiences are out on the trails with our three horses. For those coming to ride, it is a great place. Shoes and boots are NOT required for your horse...ground is packed sand and grass. Lots of groomed trails and then another large area of make-your-own trails riding. Almost all of the trails are competely tree covered so you are protected from the fierce Texas heat. You can easily get 2-3 hours of riding without crossing the same trails. All the areas are easy for getting truck/trailer in and out of with plenty of room for stacking/tieing your horses or even putting pens up. All the trails are equally available for hiking so everyone can enjoy the scenery. You can swim in the river and alot of the of camp sites border up to the river. A recent addition is rental horses. Now you can ride even though you don't have your own horse. A trailguide will take you around the trails and you can enjoy seeing all the wildlife -- especially the deer. There are so many deer and it's great to see them bounding through the woods. The camp sites are every inviting. The two areas are very distinct with elect/water available in the upper area and the bottom area mainly associated with "primitive" tent type camping. There is water available in the lower area, but not for hookup. This park is a very relaxing place to stay the weekend and I...

Hands down worst place I’ve ever camped at. The location is neat, and not too far from the attractions in San Antonio, but that’s about the only good thing. The park doesn’t have anything it says it does on the website. No pool, nowhere to kayak, no “walking trails”, the river is over grown by plants (which is not bad) however it’s still water so it’s murky and smells like sewage. The bath house is not kept up with (at least when I visited the bathhouse). The maintenance man who I guess lives on site, stopped not just my car but one of my friends cars and yelled at us for our speed (speed limit 5mph), I was going 10mph coming out of a 30mph road (insane!). Very unprofessional to stop not one but 2 different people on different occasions and YELL at them. The same maintenance man also pulled my little sister (13 y/o) to the river by herself to show her something. Imagine our surprise when we see out of our camper a grown man taking our kid to a river alone! Like I said , the location is neat and not bad, it’s the park. I will not be staying again and would tell others to pick another park this one is horrible!

Roaches are the newest latest and greatest problem I am having at this park. Stay clear of this place! I have lived here month to month for 10 months. 1st I was happy then things got seriously bad and continue to decline. Pictures of unhealthy and massive falling trees have been posted. I have informed the owner about sick unhealthy trees several times and all he ever says is basically good luck with that. These trees are 3 and 4 stories high. Extremely dangerous. *Update is new staff and old! Shout out to all of them working extremely hard to try and make this place work on a budget of nothing! Everything they do comes from blood sweat and tears! Sure do wish the owners would open their wallets every once in a while! Asking for grass in the dog park is like pulling teeth. the dog park closed for 3 weeks now. Trying to grow grass from seed rather than calling a company to come lay sod grass and just get it done and over with! Extremely cheap on the owners part. The staph does tell the owner what we need! They try for this park very hard and I do appreciate them!
