Mackinaw City Campground is a favorite in the area. I know a number of people come back year after year. It is long time family owned and operated. The owners are very friendly and accessible if campers need anything. They will also offer weekly or monthly rates if you need a place to camp for longer periods of time. The campground is secluded and quiet but located on the road that takes you right into Mackinaw City so you are within a few minutes drive to everything. This last year, the owners have made some nice improvements. They improved the fire pits and now also keep a selection of snacks, firewood, and even some eggs for purchase at their check-in station. The eggs come from some new residents to the campground-- chickens and ducks which you can visit and feed which is fun for the kids (and adults:). I am looking forward to what they will continue to add! They have electricity for campers and wifi as well as two privies which are the cleanest and best smelling privies we've ever come across due to a genious ventilation system designed by the owners' grandfather. We would highly recommend...
Read moreThere's no phone number or website, and nobody is in the office on-site. Self-register only. There's firewood provided at $10/rack, which is a better deal than the $5 bundles sold roadside in the area. Tent sites aren't numbered and are located along the roadside. RV sites have electric and water, and there are vault toilets for tent campers. KOA was full, and we asked about this campsite, which they gave a grimace and shrug about. Quiet time starts at 9 pm, so try to get there and set up before then. There is a host site and phone number posted to reach them in case of any emergencies, but I didn't see anyone outside of their rv or tent. It's definitely better than sleeping in your car if the other campgrounds are full, but that's about all I can say. A handful of trees were cut down, so if you're in a tent, it will get hot in the morning since...
Read moreThe owner/manager took a lot of pride in the grounds, very friendly and helpful. Just a really laid back feel, honor system was great, stayed 2 nights at $20 a night, really can't be beat that deal, let us pick our site which was lot 97, nearest the back which was no electric (frist come frist serve for that) it had a clean picnic table, nice fire ring and a grill!! We didn't miss not having the electric hook ups, sky park is right down the road, as is the wilderness park. We didn't bring our kids this time but next time we will, budget friendly. Oh. And the out houses have ventalation, which as a hiker/camper this is amazing, very tidy and clean, had lighting and sanitizers. Bonus. We also had a great conversations with a pilot, nurse and motorcyicalist, life is like a box of chocolate's!...
