We stayed at Spring Lake Cabins on May 10, 2025, for a friend’s WIU graduation. The cabin stay was great—clean and peaceful. However, the kayaking experience on May 11 was unsafe and poorly handled.
One of the double kayaks had a hole and began leaking just a few feet into the water. As we were getting in, we saw 4–5 snakes swimming, and two passed directly under our kayak, which was especially frightening for the first-timers in our group.
We immediately returned and explained the situation. The woman on duty that Sunday was extremely rude and told us, “We can’t refund you because there are living creatures in the water.” She refused to acknowledge the damaged kayak and insisted we take single kayaks instead. When we explained that we had requested double kayaks for safety and comfort, she dismissed us, saying, “I own this place, I decide what to do.”
We didn’t end up using the kayaking service at all, but were still denied a refund. Between the faulty equipment, visible snakes, and unprofessional customer service, the experience was deeply disappointing. We urge the management to take guest safety and feedback...

They had just recovered the several duck blinds, for the season, and I am truly looking forward to some good trout, this...

Deer Trail is a good one to take your dog with you. It's short and rather easy terrain and you only encounter a bicyclist at junctions with other trails. They have put a covered section on the walkway over the spillway bridge, obscuring the see through grates below that might make some dogs hesitant to cross. The section on the walkway is also easier on...
