Olallie Lake is a gem - stocked with fish, a decent little store for the back-country, and solid cabins. ||||To be clear - NO electricity, NO cell coverage, NO wifi. You are getting away from all of that. The cabins are, to use a euphemism, "rustic". You have beds, but no bedding; a wood stove for heat, and a water spigot OUTSIDE your cabin, and pit toilets a short walk away. Think tent camping indoors - just grab your standard camping gear, a cooler for the food, and you're set. ||||It is impossible to count the wonderful things about this beautiful lake and it's surrounds. The view of Mt. Jefferson, the trails, the boats & fish, the bazillion stars in the sky - it is really an easy way to recharge ALL of your batteries in one trip.||||Things to be aware of: ||||1 - There are pretty standard forest roads for the last several miles. That means they can be muddy, rutted and downright difficult if the weather's been bad. You might want to bring that SUV or truck.||2 - You're camping. Don't forget your cooking gear, flashlights, bedding, dishes, etc.||3 - No swimming in the lake! But the swimming lake is just a short walk across the main road||4 - DON'T LISTEN TO GOOGLE. Do NOT try to come in from the southwest, unless you are ready for serious offroading. The road between Breitenbush Lake Campground and Horseshoe Lake Campground is barely passable for 4x4s. Your minivan will NOT make it, regardless of what Google Maps says. Drive the extra 6 miles north on the excellent paved NF46 road, then NF4690...

Read moreSince it was our anniversary we decided to upgrade from our tent to a yurt when staying at Olallie Lake Resort two weeks ago. The accommodations were very comfrotable with nice windows on the lake side of the Yurt...... The first night. Our second and the second and last night there we retired as the sun set and a slight drizzle started. By 2AM it was pouring down rain and we discovered that the yurt had many, many leaks. Flooding the living room, and bedroom number one, Luckily we were in bedroom number two which had only one medium size leak over the bed. When we woke up the entire structure was flooded. We cooked breakfast and prepared to leave||early. I thought it would be good to warn the staff that the yurt had a problem with leaks. ||||The manager Sam explained that she knew about it and that our yurt had a large tear in the canvas roof. She (Samantha) recommended that I send an email to the owner. ||||I received a reply. "The problem with the leaky roof is being addressed. ||||Thanks a lot, no expression of even sympathy for our discomfort. I recommend staying in Olallie in your own tent, you will be dryer and have an extra $200 to spend at the store. ||||Bummer an anniversary that we will never forget. Beautiful lake but the owner's have little regard for their guests, we won't return without our own accommodations. It was very obvious that the owners have known about this problem for some time but then in Oregon, who knows there are times it doesn't...
