Let’s be fair..there are some things out of the control of an innkeeper and some belong right in their lap. A review should distinguish between the two and be honest in how ones visit went. Magnolia is a wonderful old home. It is comfortable and welcoming. Our room and perhaps the others are all wood. Pine walls and ceiling that perhaps had darkened with age. Lightning because of the dark wood needs to be increased in the bathroom. The critical part of the bathroom is quite dark. The bathroom is super clean and has towels big and fluffy. The entire room is spotless with a warm homey feeling. The King size pillows and the ultra comfortable queen mattress would have provided a great night sleep. So now the difficult part. Our head board must have been placed on the common wall between our room and another. The common wall has no sound barrier at all. The couple in the next room began close to 9pm with a cell call that we could hear both parties talking. After the long call we could continue to hear them talk in a normal voice. What preceded after 10pm could only be described as extra curricular activities with their headboard banging on our common wall. The exhaustion of activities led to loud snoring so much so that I felt we had a third party in our bed. Things quieted down about the time one could smell wonderful bacon being cooked. Drifting off finally to uninterrupted sleep for two hours.
Breakfast was pretty darn great. We are gluten free and our breakfast was deliciously gluten free. Our compliments to our host. We would be remiss if we did not mention the beautiful tall Christmas tree and the many decorations through out the downstairs. This beautiful home sits in a wonderful old neighborhood and one should take a short walk to see the many types of homes. All situated back from the road and surrounded by live oaks and many other different trees. We met a few neighbors chatting outside with their dogs and they were as gracious as if we were their neighbors. Within a short walk, perhaps a half a mile is a beautiful restaurant, Jesses. While we were told we would probably not get a table we tried anyway at about 5:30 pm and were easily seated. The restaurant being less than half full. We were told our table was reserved at 7:30 which was plenty of time for us to enjoy a wonderful meal. Perhaps pricy for this area. With wine, appetizer, meal and desert it was about 250$. Service was excellent.
I would suggest if other rooms are vacant that you request one not next to another guest. Ours may have been the only room attached to another , back to back. Had it been earlier and we were not really tired we would have requested a change especially after 10pm when the honeymoon started and then the snoring all night . With every passing hour we did say let see if we can change only to have it stop but begin again after 20 minutes. That did ruin our night but did NOT ruin our stay which was Greatly over showered by our wonderful hosts, their home, breakfast and our walk in a truly beautiful area. Yes we would return. We...
Read moreMy husband and I were traveling to St Pete Beach, Florida to celebrate his successful treatment for cancer. It was a vacation for recovery and celebration! On day 1, arriving at Magnolia Springs after a ten hour drive we came into a timeless haven. We drove right into the parking lot and were not 40 feet from the door. All directions and access codes (we were emailed clear and concise instructions ahead of our travel) worked perfectly and we were welcomed into a comfortable foyer where we signed in and picked up our delightful, freshly made chocolate chip cookies. Our room was homey and comfortable and immaculately clean. Instructions for everything were discreet but easy to find. There were lovely touches like Magnolia Springs bath soap and fresh, fluffy towels, and plenty of pillows! Each side of the bed had lighting and a table (just like we have at home). We heard our neighbors coming in from dinner, but they were quiet and polite - it made it seem like being in our own house with our grown children visiting and coming in for the night. Sweet! My husband and I both slept soundly and had plenty of room and time to get ready for the delicious breakfast David and Eric served. Somehow they manage to combine all the best features of happy home and fine restaurant. We felt like very special guests, and, too, we felt like family! Our travel plans worked out so that 10 days later, we stayed at Magnolia Springs on our return home, and David and Eric greeted us like longtime friends. Coincidentally, it was February 13, so David helped us make an early Valentine's Day dinner reservation in town. After dinner we returned home to our romantic Magnolia Springs suite. Valentine's Day we awoke to a beautiful, sunny morning with an extra special breakfast being served in the pretty dining room downstairs. David and Eric were whisking about in the kitchen to be sure nothing was left undone to make the meal extra special. All the guests at breakfast that morning were as happy and pampered as we. We were sorry we had to head home, but felt well rested and prepared for the drive. Both our stays at Magnolia Springs were unparalleled. They reminded us of the days when Bed and Breakfast Inns first came into their own and what wonderful experiences we had staying in BnBs around the nation. It was a little bit of a trip back in time, with plenty of promise for future happy experiences in Magnolia Springs. We plan to bring friends and grandchildren there soon! We'd like to say a special thank you to David and Eric for doing everything they did to make our stay pleasant and restorative. They are astute businessmen not afraid to invest in romance and friendship and caring as well as hard work and financial management. They just have it...
Read moreI have never written a review for a business. I should. I think about it but never get around to it. I'm breaking my silence for Magnolia Springs B&B. We are locals. We live ten minutes away. I grew up in Magnolia Springs.
My husband and I stayed one night in the Mclennan Room this month for a special birthday treat for him. We checked in late at 4 pm and checked out at 9 am the next morning. He had to work the next day but went in late so we could "experience" the breakfast. It truly is an experience; a wonderful one.
Upon arrival, we were greeted like family, acquainted with the house and amenities that were available to us, shown to our room, and given a key to their home so that we could come and go as we pleased. We enjoyed a relaxing bath in the antique cast iron claw foot soaking tub then headed a block down Oak Street to our favorite restaurant; Jesse's for a phenomenal dry aged prime steak.
When we came "home", our bed was turned down for us, with chocolates to boot. The sheets are unreal; cool and crisp. The bed is heavenly; pillowy yet supportive. Also, something about the 12 ft. ceilings, pine wood, and impeccable cleanliness of the place, creates a crisp air quality that is so refreshing and cleansing. We turned on some spring rain sounds, courtesy of the bedside white noise machine, and proceeded to have the best night's sleep...OF OUR LIVES! Honestly.
We told David we'd be up for breakfast at 8am but couldn't pull ouselves into consciousness 'til 9am; and only managed that with the help of lovely bacon smells wafting from the kitchen. He was happy for us; not put-out that we were late. We were the only lodgers at the time; being mid-week and off-season. We felt like royalty.
Locally thrown clay coffee mugs were being kept warm on a vintage warming tray for us next to an array of teas and freshly brewed coffee. David served us 3 courses of masterfully prepared, wholesome goodness in the most loving manner. We went on to work soonafter with full stomachs and a rejuvenated spirit.
The level of care that David and Eric provided and their attention to detail made me want to live a more mindful and deliberate life. That may seem an over the top statement but it's 100% true. We will return whenever we can; to reboot, unwind, relax, indulge,...
