Bad Hosts.😡

Be aware! I don’t usually take the time to write reviews. But this time I feel I need to share my experience so others can be aware. I just came back from this place. I have ATVs and that is the only reason for me to stay there since is one of the only places that you can just ride from the camp ground. Well earlier in the week the camp host told me to slow down and not to pick up any dust. I wasn’t even going fast. Cars would pass me. So I let that one go. The next day The second camp host. The one on top by the entrance told me was to stop revving my bike on my way out. I told him that I was only trying to keep my bike from stalling. Because bit was cold. He than told me to leave the bike at my campground then???? I told him what was the purpose of us being there then? He said I was disturbing the peace. ???? This is a camp site that allows HOVs. Everyone knows the sound of bikes and UTVs. Plus this was around 5-6pm not AM or late at night. Plus it was a uphill climb on our way out. That means I have to give it some gas in order to move. I was never riding inside the campsite. Only heading out. I was very respectful to the neighbors. But i was told that both of these camp hosts are new to this site. And they don’t like it there. They prefer to give the spots to people who are there to camp only. Not people with off road toys. Because they want it to be quiet. This is the wrong place for them. Everyone knows that if you stay at a place that allows off road toys. Except to hear some noise. And don’t get mad. But yes be respectful to each other. I spoke with other campers. Thinking I was the only one getting harassed but apparently I was not the only one.

So if you are going there. Be aware.

Sorry for the long review but I just...

Tony and Debbie were the worst host I've ever encountered..They have no business hosting at any campgrounds..From the minute my group of 5 campsites arrived they made it a point ti harrass all of us..At 8:54 pm tony came to my fathers camsite and told my father that he didn't like country music and he wanted the raduo turned off if we were going to listen to country music..The music was not loud and you couldn't hear it away from our campsite..He didn't like the fact that prople laughing and trying to have a good time in the evening.. I reserved a pull through campsite and was told by tony I had to make sure my vehicle ls stayed out of edge of travel way ..I kept my vehicles 3 feet behind edge of travel way and he turned around and took Debbie back to my campsite and she said I was parking in the road and suddenly my pullthrough was part of the road..Keep in mind that there was a volcanic rock crop at beginning of my pullthrough and a 5 foot diameter tree in the middle of my pullthrough..There was literally no way vehicles were using my pullthrough as part of the road.. Tony showed me exactly were the edge of travel way was and I stayed 3 feet behind it..She literally told me she's over riding what he says and made me remove vehicles that were in my own pullthrough site..She also said that it wasn't a pullthrough site and it was a back in site. There is 2 pullthrough sites and mine was one of the sites..I spoke to the other camp host next day and told them what happened and they said I had a pullthrough site and it was not a back in only.. Do not stay at this campground if Tony and Debbie are host it will the worst experience camping you...

Really lovely and off the beaten path campground near Mammoth. Away from the crowds in the town of Mammoth but still really close by car, only about 10 minutes down the road. There are two roads that access the campground. If you are driving from Southern Ca GPS will want you to turn on Sherwin Creek Rd off of the 395. If you turn this way, make sure you have a high profile 4wd because it is a rocky and very uneven dirt road that continues for 3.5 miles. If you are driving a sedan you can also get there by taking route 203 from the 395 then making a left on Old Mammoth road, if you go this way the road is paved the entire way. The camp host was the nicest person we've ever come across in a campground and gave us great hiking recommendations. Most sites are not next to the creek but a short walk from it, the creek is stocked with trout and the fishing was great. The walk up sites are all creek-side. The bathrooms are vault style and no sinks but have electricity. The camp host sells firewood for $7 a bundle (cash only). Everything is very clean and well maintained. People at the camp are mostly families. This is not a rowdy party campground at all, mostly RVs and if you have an ATV or dirt bike there are lots of trails accessible from...

My partner and I preferred to stay near one of the lakes, but as the campgrounds near water were booked, we tried Sherwin. The camp host wasn't able to help us right away, as she needed to help with a bear spotted at one of their sites. We ended up finding the bear and watched her (a young female) devour a watermelon that campers had left out and try repeatedly to get into a cooler, without success. No one was harmed; the bear just wanted to snack, and I bet those campers will be more considerate about locking up their food next time! Anyhow, we were able to get the very last site available and it was lovely! We were in a copse of Aspen trees, with the sound of a swiftly running creek not far from us. The facilities were clean and decent, and the experience really positive. We had a fire ring and a large bear box in which to lock up our food, so we broke out the S'mores fixings that night! (There was apparently a larger bear that also roamed the camp the night before and of our stay, hunting marshmallows, but we missed seeing him...not that I mind!)

A traditional campground - generous sized sites, good sized bear lockers and plenty of water spigots. Given its location, you are well away from town with minimal traffic. Note that campground is popular with the ATV crowd, given its proximity to recreational forest roads, so you very well may have some as neighbors. Nevertheless, they were well-behaved and observed the campground speed limit (the campground host was definitely doing his job). One last note, this is (black) bear country - observe the posted rules or suffer the (somewhat humorous) consequences like our trailer neighbors; seems mama bear and her cubs had a yearning for some cookies - an open top vent was all the invitation they needed!
