Twin Lakes Resort is like stepping back in time for the excellent customer service they provide. While the RV spaces are fairly close together (so you can make friends with your neighbors), there’s plenty of open space around them. Although there are no big trees for shade, each of the large RV spaces has a shade structure along with a fire pit and picnic table. ||||What sets this resort apart is the staff’s commitment to a great experience for the guests. In the back of the General Store, there’s a well-stocked counter with everything you might need for fishing. My friend really wanted to catch a fish. Cory spent a half hour reconfiguring her fishing pole and only charged her for the tackle she used. When my husband caught a rainbow trout, after they weighed it, we decided to use their smoking service. They told us that we needed to gut the fish first. Tim, the owner, must have seen the dismay on our faces and walked with us across the road to the fish gutting station and “taught” us how to gut the fish—and wouldn’t accept payment. ||||The General Store itself has everything you might have forgotten—food, water shoes, shirts, ice, hats, towels, maps, firewood, along with a good selection of gifts and souvenirs, plus clean rest rooms. Since they open early, the store closes at 5 or 6 pm depending on the season, so plan accordingly. ||||It’s a great place to get off the grid, or at least minimize your digital life. There is strongish wi-fi at the store, but it weakens the further away you are. This would not be a place to accomplish remote work unless you bring your own wi-fi set up. Having to walk just a few minutes to the General Store to check e-mail really allowed us to slow down and disconnect. ||||They rent pontoon boats, kayaks, and other boats for very reasonable prices, but you can fish from the shore. We were there a few days before Labor Day and were the only people out on the lake on our pontoon boat and the next day in kayaks. The views of the surrounding mountains from the lake were lovely, especially in the morning before haze from Yosemite fires drifted in. We saw deer wander through the resort but didn’t see any bears. Others in the RVs closest to the bear-proof dumpster did. Be sure not to leave any food items outside. ||||Our friends stayed in their RV, and we rented the travel trailer that is permanently at site 30 at the far end of the large RV section. From the map, it looked like we’d be right next to others, but the smaller RVs (in the circular formation) were quite a distance away so it was very private. The RV wasn’t a luxury rig, but had everything we needed--a firm queen mattress, hot water (after a 20-minute warm up), gas stove, small refrigerator and freezer, tiny bathroom and shower, and space heaters. We used these in the morning and once tripped the breaker (electric panel is below the oven). There’s an outdoor kitchen with a sink and refrigerator (cooktop was not hooked up), but we didn’t use that. It took us a while to figure out that you can turn the lights on and off by pressing the tiny button in the center. In addition to all of the items they specify that you should bring, I’d add a night light or battery votive candle since it is quite dark at night (you can see the Milky Way!). We didn’t bring a large cutting board but that would have been helpful since there is limited counter space. ||||It was a wonderful, relaxing few days with beautiful scenery and no crowds, even when the resort was fully booked. Don’t wait too long to reserve a site since many people reserve for the following year before they leave. My friends checked out a few other RV spots on their way home but reserved Twin Lakes Resort for next year. If you are looking to get away from it all in a beautiful location with kind, helpful people and reasonable prices, this is the...

Read moreThe area is absolutely beautiful but we did not stay. Please be very careful when making a reservation at this resort. They may not be forthcoming about all of the details and unfortunately there was no refund when we did get the whole story and decided to find other accommodations. We reserved a spot at the RV park in October 2017 requesting full hookups (water, electricity, sewer). Our credit card was charged before we arrived. However, when we arrived we saw notices that the water was not potable. The staff did not tell us this at the time the reservation was placed or when we checked in at the general store to get our site assignment. We saw notices posted on the restrooms and laundry. Luckily we saw them before we contaminated the holding tank on our motorhome. If the staff had told us about the water issue when we called to make the reservation, we would never have made it and would not be out $72.00. At least we don't have to disinfect our fresh water holding tank. We did contact the Mono County Health Department who was familiar with the issue. They were awaiting test results to determine if the problem had been resolved. The clearance had not been given at the time we checked in. The owner was not on site when we arrived and we were told by staff that they did not have the authority to issue a refund. We were given a business card and told to contact the owner on Monday (we arrived on Saturday). After two attempts to contact her and finding that she was not in the office, we were told to email her which we did on Tuesday. We finally got an email response denying the refund on Friday. As I mentioned, just be careful when making reservations at this resort. We would have liked to stay in the area but will not deal with owners that put profit above customer...
