We had the most enjoyable stay at the North Shire Lodge B&B. The pictures on the website are a very accurate representation of the rooms, common areas and outdoor areas. The beds, pillows and chairs in the rooms were comfortable. It was very clean all over with good water pressure in the shower. I hope we can go back one day as it is truly one of the most enjoyable places I have ever stayed.
The owners were so welcoming. They were personable and checked in every morning about your plans and gave advice on the area and things to do. Otis, the doodle, excitedly welcomed us to breakfast each morning and even joined us for some snuggles on the deck one evening. The breakfast choices were always delicious and something we looked forward to each morning. The views from the deck in the evening were beautiful and such a peaceful way to end the day.
The guidebook they have put together and emailed with the confirmation was so incredibly helpful and made planning so much easier. They have paper pamphlet and map resources as well when you get there. The water and ice machine was great to fill up our water bottles at the beginning and end of the day. However, if you needed to grab a quick bottle of water or snack they had them in the lobby with a cash box and were very reasonably priced.
As an additional note if you have never been to Vermont before: we learned that it is common for businesses and some restaurants to be closed on Monday/Tuesday or Tuesday/Wednesday. Even during peak fall season. One shop owner told us this was common year round for the entire state - I don’t know how true that statement is. Restaurants with bars close as early as 8:30pm. After full days exploring through, an early dinner and bedtime were welcomed! We came up on Sunday and left on Friday and did everything we wanted to do and see. It just took a few minutes of planning and making a quick schedule of our days to make sure we hit everything when they were open. We fell in love...
Read moreI chose the North Shire Lodge for a quick weekend getaway for myself and my best friend because the rates were extremely reasonable, the rooms looked good, and there was free breakfast and a pub on premise. I didn't do a ton of research, so most of my first impressions walking on the property were a surprise. I wondered why all the rooms looked nearly identical on the booking, and it became obvious: they're more like cabins with adjoining walls, which is SUCH a cute idea! Everyone has their own space, as well as their own patio with similar views, but you're not being stared at by your neighbors due to the staggered nature of the architecture. Then at check-in I noticed they had DVDs you could borrow if you don't want to surf their free cable, too cool! The pub has an EXTENSIVE whisk(e)y collection that I was pleasantly impressed with, and had some good conversation with Tim about. I didn't quite have enough time to try the bare minimum of what I would have liked to, but that was my own poor planning. The breakfast the next day was yet another 10/10, with the choice of an omelette or blueberry pancakes (we both chose the pancakes) and they were out of this world, made with a cornbread mix which is not what I'm used to, but a welcome surprise nonetheless. I will definitely be returning to show my husband this wonderful spot! I will say, I was a bit surprised at their strictly and promptly displayed "no smoking, vaping, candles or incense" policy, but the reason quickly became apparent: when you enter your room, you can smell the wood used for the furniture. The rooms smell cozy and freshly built, and any odors caused by the above would definitely diminish that over time. I can't believe this place smells so new after being in business around 20 years, I expected the usual scent of any...
Read moreThe Northshire Lodge is under new management (3 Days) and the new owners (even their pup, Otis) make you feel exceptionally welcome. They are awaiting their liquor license to “re” open the Mountain View Pub, which we hope to experience in September when we return for my 30 year reunion! The rooms are clean and charming and have everything you need. The in-room fridge is large! Everything in our room is in perfect working order. The TV has a builtin DVD player and there is an extensive library to pick from in the lobby if there is nothing on cable that catches your eye. We recommend you book dirrctly feom their website as it is the ONLY way to get the hot breakfast, which is both free and quite good. Today they had frittatas and blueberry pancakes. they also have an assortment of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt bagels etc. but our favorite was the incredible ice machine located in the lobby! The pool was exceptionally clean and we witnessed Brad checking the PH levels, skimming, and emptying filters. This attention to detail meant the pool did not need a strong level of chemicals. The pool is 8 feet deep at the deep end! We highly recommend the Norrthshire Lodge as it is run by great people and offers a great value for the area. We look forward to seeing what improvements they make as the years go by and we wish them...
