I was really excited to stay here and really wanted to love this place! It is in a beautiful location and the sunsets were stellar. I also thought the bed and bedding were very nice and comfortable. However, there were a few things that were pretty disappointing and it would have been helpful to know these things before deciding to stay here:
The hot tub was not hot at all! It was warm-ish, just not hot enough to be called a hot tub. This was really unfortunate given that it was cold at night and I was really looking forward to soaking daily during my stay. I only used the hot tub one time for a few minutes and got chilled afterwards. Also, the "hot tub" is not close to the pool, it's on the other side of the property.
There was construction every day at the house next door during daylight hours - from early in the morning to after sunset! It was loud and not so relaxing to sit outside. It was not a 'quiet nature' experience. They should be upfront about construction noise on their website.
There is no wood burning allowed in the fireplaces (dura flame logs only, which are toxic) and not all fireplaces are functional - even if they appear so on the website photos. I had expected my bedroom fireplace to be functional as it appeared in the photos. It was disappointing and my room was cold at night. Also, the beautiful outdoor fire pit in the photos is self service, and I never saw a fire happening there.
There was mold in my bathroom in the bath tub. The bathroom also smelled like mold, which could be all the plants and the poor air circulation.
My room had a very narrow staircase (it seemed 18" wide) with a sharp turn, and is for able-bodied people only. It was comical to carry my suitcase up the front stairs to the entrance only to have to carry it down the narrow internal stairs to the bedroom. Again, they should indicate on the website this room is for strong able bodied people only.
The yoga room is not a private space to have a massage or other session. This was confusing as it is an open loft to the kitchen. It is also the only way to get from the kitchen to the upper deck.
The windows in my suite were not able to be opened, they were all solid picture windows. Since they ask you to keep the doors closed due to critters, my room did not get fresh air and had poor circulation during the day.
I wish I had read a honest review of the reality of this property before I decided to spend 4 nights here. Yes, this is a gorgeous property with beautiful design elements. But given my experience it wasn't the most relaxing or easeful vacation. I wish there wasn't such a huge discrepancy in the website description and images versus the reality. For the high price point, I would stay elsewhere in the future with a working hot tub, quiet atmosphere, working fireplaces, and better service. I was informed in my confirmation email to contact someone off-site for emergencies only. I was never told there was someone on site to talk to for assistance, even when I texted them...
Β Β Β Read moreI had an amazing time at this place! Usually hotels and inns look better in pictures but this place exceeded my expectations. I stayed in the Creosite suite. I overpacked and brought a lot of stuff, but my suite had everything I needed. There were plates, cooking utensils, all the bathroom supplies I needed, etc. My suite also had a kitchen and private patio. My first night we have a private chef cook for us (which I totally recommend!) and the second night, we used our kitchen and ate in our private patio. The private patio made us feel so relaxed and fancy. Even if you get one of the suites that doesn't have a kitchen or patio, they have a community kitchen you can use and a few locations to eat your dinner at. Most places are 30 minutes away so you'll want to either cook or book a private chef meal.
I felt so refreshed after leaving this place. It was quiet so I felt like I was the only one there and the scenery was so beautiful. I loved using the hot springs after a long day of hiking and just sitting in one of their many locations to soak in nature.
The beds were extremely comfortable. So comfortable, I'm looking to buy the stuff they had! I also loved the way everything smelled. And you guessed it, I am also looking to buy the diffusers they had.
It was great a time at the JTH and I definitely...

It's impossible not to appreciate the way the morning light hits the chollas in the morning and casts a warm, golden hue throughout the kitchen and breakfast space. We (a family of 4 with two young girls) had a great time in the Ocotillo Suite. The owners are so thoughtful in the curation of the space, from the books to the cookware to the blankets. There's even prickly pear tea! Considering how effortlessly cool the space is, I think it's really easy to underestimate the amount of sheer hard work and the million little decisions it must have taken to put together this space. There's so much heart present in what has made the JTH.
As for our stay, we struggled mightily venturing out in what was unseasonably cold AZ weather, but JTH offered plenty to do inside. The thermostat was a little weird and the common spaces were sometimes chilly (prob perfect for non-AZ natives), but these are trivial things compared to the overall experience. The hosts are also very receptive and responsive when we did encounter small issues.
I'd recommend this place to anyone, especially those wanting to experience the magic of...
