Sunset Motel — Hotel in Marengo

Made reservations with a very uninterested young man with zero customer service skills. Should have tipped me off. Prior to arriving I double checked the office hours of this motel (24 hours) and was excited to be staying so close to the destinations I would be visiting.

However, after a full day of driving I arrive at the Sunset Motel and when I see that all the lights are off my stomach drops through my feet. The 24 hour office looked closed. Just to make sure, I checked the website again. Yep, office hours are 24 hours a day. Thinking that maybe they had the lights off to save electricity I went to the office. Cute decorations in the anteroom, but the actual office was indeed closed, and the phone went unanswered.

It wasn't late, I had arrived during their posted business hours, and yet they were closed and I was left hundreds of miles from my home with no place to stay. Luckily there was a super 8 the next town over. I keep trying to give my money to small businesses but they...

We were in Marengo by chance as the last leg of our American roadtrip in a RV. After we saw a snow storm was on its way we decided to find a motel for the night. After seeing gret reviews on Google we ended up at the sunset motel. Staying in the room, you would have never known it was so cold outside as the heat was amazing. This place isn't the Ritz but if you want clean and warm, you're going to get just that. Apon meeting the owner, I can say he is one of the hardest working individuals i've had the pleasure to come across. Even getting up super early to plow snow and tried to get the snow off our vehicle. Everyone that was staying that we met were all super friendly. I just wish at the time that we had more cash on us because he deserved the greatest tip. Wishing sunset motel all the best for the future.
