Hurricane Campground has been one of the best campgrounds we have stayed at. Clean restrooms, spacious and peaceful campsites, and friendly camp host. The directions to get to the campground were easy to follow. The showers had lukewarm water and were very clean as well. The camp host would ride around about three times per day checking on the campsites and checking on everyone before dusk, which made us feel even more comfortable staying at the campground. There are a couple of places to grab firewood about 20-25 minutes nearby; however, we grabbed the most from Corner Market Cafe and Grayson Highlands General Store - which had good and dry firewood. During our stay, we hiked the Wilburn Ridge via Appalachian Trail at Grayson Highlands State Park, and it is worth the 45-minute drive. Read moreWe camped at Hurricane CG in late Sept. 2024. The campground is nestled into the deep hardwood forest of Virginia. Rhododendrons, hemlock trees, and others were all around. We had some rain but even without the rain it was pretty humid. Cell service can be found by driving toward Marion, about 15-20 minutes north. There are 2 restrooms with male/female sides, a flush toilet and a shower in each and a unisex vault toilet in the middle of the campground. Phil, the host, has been there for many years and did a great job of maintaining the place. If you like high mountains and long vistas this is not the place for you. Other sites are in a more open areas. There are two bath houses with men's and women's sides. Each bath house has push button warm showers and push button sinks with toilets and urinal. Freshwater spigots located throughout the campground. One Vault pit toilet between the two bath houses. On-site hosts are helpful.
