It's not like us to stay somewhere without checking reviews first, but we could not find anything else for that weekend. Can't understand the people giving this 5. I know the other cabins may not have been like ours, but I can't believe they would have been vastly different.||||First, the good stuff. It was secluded just like we were looking for. It would have been perfect for star gazing if it had been clear. The breakfast was good. The owners were friendly. The bed was comfortable, and the sheets seemed clean. These are the only reasons I gave it 2 stars instead of one.||||Now the bad. Not clean. I'm really glad we're not paranoid about COVID19. There was only A/C in the bedroom, which if there is only going to be A/C in one room, that's the most important. We didn't spend much time downstairs anyway, because the TV didn't work, and I really didn't feel like sitting on the dirty furniture. It doesn't bother us, but there was no way to lock the doors, which I know makes some people uncomfortable. To be tightly closed, the refrigerator doors had to be held with duct tape. It was raining while we were there, and the roof leaked. The glass top on the bedside table had bobby pins on it, lots of water rings (not ours), and something sticky on it. The towels were clean, but the shower was dirty and full of hair, and we wouldn't get in it. There was only hot water--yes only hot water. We brushed our teeth with bottled water we had. We told the owner, and he knew it--wasn't concerned. Better than no hot, I guess. You could see where there were supposed to be smoke detectors, but there weren't any. Nice lake, but the grounds aren't trimmed, and you can't get to the lake.||||Wasn't expecting the Ritz, but geez. Would be good for a hunting or...
Read moreI found Old Squat Inn by accident online. I like to travel but have cut back due to covid this year. I live in Terre Haute, IN, three hours from Olde Squat and thought the drive would be easy and the out-of-the-way location would not expose me to covid. I found the B and B perfect for my get-away-from-it-all needs. My bed was firm, I didn't need air in the fall, but air conditioning somehow seems inappropriate in a log cabin out in the countryside. The room heater kept me warm at night. The breakfasts at this place were really good and varied from day to day. I ate there three mornings. Nearby dining out options are modest but there's a pizza place about ten miles off. The kitchen is fully equipped and clean, and there's a charcoal grill so a visitor should consider bringing in some food although a deli is only a short drive away.||||But the beauty of the Olde Squat Inn is its remoteness, the beauty of the setting in a Walden Pond atmosphere. There are only five cabins on the property. When I was there in October I was the only guest, which I found to be perfect for my state of mind. I loved sitting on the porch of my cabin and building a roaring fire in the outside fireplace and sitting beside the pond and even fishing and catching a nice bluegill. Excellent hiking is within an hour's drive of Olde Squat. So, for an individual or a family or romantic couple looking for a weekend get-away far away from the maddening crowds--or perhaps eve a longer stay, the Olde Squat Inn...
Read moreThere's one bad review that didn't even come here. There's another that leaves bad reviews everywhere and says there were bugs. Well, it's an authentic log cabin in the woods, of course there are bugs. Hardly saw any mosquitoes tho which was surprising. Another said no breakfast, must have been someplace else cause im always overfed. They even give me fresh garden veggies n fruit when i come in. I've stayed here at least a couple times a year for many years and i will come back many more. Im on my 3rd doggy who has accompanied me and all of them love it. My girl now had been here several times and gets crazy playing in the big spring feed pond. It's so clean. Truly a doggy and...
