I stayed at the Whetstone Inn for three days in mid February, and enjoyed it very much. I found it to be a large, comfortable, fascinating old inn- formerly a stagecoach inn dating to the 18th century, set on a hillside, complete with warm and welcoming inn-keeper, lots of books, a piano and other musical instruments in the living room, old wavy glass window panes, cozy comforters, and a pleasant, welcoming vibe throughout. Our corner bedroom, with three beds, was HUGE with a beautiful view of the neighboring church and en suite bathroom about the size of a closet (in fact it had been a closet, we deduced, but it was handy to have it ). The room was bright, warm, and well furnished with comfortable arm chairs, standing lamps, a desk, and an old sewing table - looking for a scissors I opened a drawer and found dozens of what looked like antique stays tucked away. There are no televisions around (see lots of books, piano, etc), but the wifi seemed excellent - we streamed Netflix and could attend to emails with no issue, and also got good cell phone reception. The breakfasts, included in the price of the stay, were outstanding and a great way to start the day - fresh farm eggs, good coffee, and even gluten-free blueberry pancakes for my GF husband. I hope to be back when the weather warms up to experience the...
Read moreMy husband and I found this Inn purely by accident this past August. We were staying in the Brattleboro area and decided to stay one more night but the Hotel we were at could not accommodate us - we googled and found The Whetstone and immediately booked a room which proved serendipitous! Our hosts included Jean, her stepdaughter Robyn and Robyn's husband Jeff. After just one evening, we came away feeling like old friends! So much so, in October we came back for a full weekend along with my sisters and their husbands and we were all made to feel like family! The breakfasts were delicious, the common rooms felt like home and the hosts knowledge of area attractions and hidden gems was wonderful - Jeff even drove us to a small succulent plant nursery on our last morning so we wouldn't get lost! There is a spring fed pond out back for relaxing by day or gathering around a fire in the evening. The hosts truly make it their goal to meet their guests' needs and provide a very personal experience. This is a warm, welcoming and beautifully situated Inn, steeped in history and just minutes from Brattleboro and incredible scenic drives brilliant with color! The genuineness of our hosts and the sum of our experience over two visits will continue to bring us back! We are all looking forward to...
Read moreAfter a long, difficult (and still going) 2021, I needed a place to go and have a reset in life. For whatever reason a dude from Delco (and his two dogs)ended up in some town called Marlboro in Vermont. I never stayed in bed and breakfast before, I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t find out until afterwords they didn’t have TVs there, so I was a little concerned. After a few days and nights it was exactly what I needed. It was great to unplug from electronics and the repetition of life in general. During the night, its so quiet. My dogs couldn’t get used to the quiet the first night. I also forgot how dark it gets without a million lights around. If you need some time for yourself, I highly recommend coming here. I feel recharged, excited, and determined again. The family who runs the Inn treated me like they already knew me, which I found suspicious. Just kidding. I don’t know how else to describe it. If I needed something or had a question it was asked and answered before Siri could get you the answers. Last but not least the breakfast was great. It was nice to have a nice complete breakfast, I didn’t have to make myself. If that’s what a bed and breakfast is supposed to be or do for someone, then this...
