I highly do NOT recommend this hotel for a LONG list of reasons. But let me first start by saying, you get less than what you pay for here. First, the location of this hotel. When I mapped the hotel, it showed the hotel close to the lifts. That is NOT true, and that is because the address is wrong. This hotel is on the bottom of the mountain. A solid 15-30 minute ride to the ski areas. You can either take the death trap bus that is provided for you, or you can drive and pay $15-$25 for parking. Second is the quality. For less than a $100 a night. I was prepared for a cheap and old . But the four beds in both of our rooms sloped to the middle so severely, several us ended up sleeping on the floor for comfort. There was no microwave. No extra pillows or towels. And the shower tilted so severely in both rooms we had three people fall. Third and most importantly, this hotel houses ALL of the foriegn workers at the resort. The resort has a foriegn work program. Meaning almost every job at the resort is operated by a foreigner who speaks minimum eglish, and they ALL stay in this hotel. That wouldn't have been an issue exept for...THEY DOMINATE THIS HOTEL. This is their home. At any given time, you can barely make it into the food area or the common room areas for wifi.(note: the only wifi in the entire hotel is in these rooms. And ONLY AT&T works on the mountain.) They are always packed with the foreign workers. Not only that, before 8am and after 10pm. They are packed with workers in their underwear, in their long johns, in their pajamas. They have no decency because they live here. Having young children on the trip, we were NOT happy seing half naked men sit across from us scratching their junk. If that wasn't the worst of it. They run up and down the halls in the middle of the night drunk, screaming, and slamming doors. They are rude and do not want to interact with you at all. They also clam up the stair ways making it almost impossible to get down or up especially with snow gear. These foriegn workers also ride the bus up and down with you. And they take up more than half the bus every trip. So when you load up in your ski or snowboard gear, expect to be thrown to the back of the bus where there are no seats and where your likely to suffer injury trying to hold on for dear life to your gear and not die simultaneously. It is worth the $25 a day in parking not to have to deal with rude riders with zero courtesy. We were told by locals in the area, that this hotel has about 150 rooms, and only 20 are guest rooms. Which is completely probable and makes sense considering the continental $3.00 breakfast they make you pay for that should be free based on the limited selection, the shot out rooms and the lack of cars in the parking lot. We came to ski and enjoy a great family trip in WV. Instead we were pushed around by a large population that doesn't speak English, that did not like us on their home and by rooms that aren't worth $30 a night. The only decent part about this hotel, was their staff. They were informative, polite and helpful. It was just too little in such a horrible situation. If we every visit Snowshoe again, which after this experience we will not. We wouldn't stay here. It is worth it to spend more money and stay on the mountain where you don't have to deal with th feeling of invading someone's home. Because that is exactly what you are doing when you stay at the Inn at Snowshoe. You are invading the...
Read moreWe booked the Inn at Snowshoe because there was nothing available on top of the mountain. We liked the convenience of shops and local cafe/convenient dining "restaurant" across the street. Serves great pizza at reasonable prices. Expect to spend a lot on top of the mountain to eat. Surrounding area at bottom of mountain has a nice, lovely local West Virginia feel, whereas on top of mountain is rather monopolistic and "tourist trap" feel.
Facility is dated. Most of the inn serves as employee housing for those who work at Snowshoe. There always seems to be someone cooking something in the "hospitality" room in the lobby, and staff from around the world telling daily stories on how their workday was. The daily cooking makes the hotel smell like a dorm. It was an entertaining experience if you are going for a behind the scenes experience.
There is a permanently closed restaurant on premise and indoor swimming, whirlpool but nobody seemed to use it. Perhaps because you get the amazing Split Rock Pools on top of the mountain, included in your stay at the Inn, which is a huge bonus! There is a free shuttle to the top and back, but waits can be quite lengthy. We opted to take our car to the top, free parking included at the Top of the World lodge, at the top of Soaring Eagle lift. It's the farthest parking available, no cell phone reception works here.
On cell phones. Att towers will work on other service providers like TMobile, but phones only work around the village, starring at the Chapel, Split Rock Pools, the village, Starbucks, and shops around the village area. Phones will not work, including data and cellular service at the Inn, but you can change your phone settings to WiFi Calling and it'll work. For TMobile and others, expect roaming data to be required. Cell phones do not work at the phone, but we found WiFi to be pretty good, as each room at the Inn has its own router and WiFi code, free and included in your room.
Our room had a refrigerator, but we were told not all rooms have refrigerators. If you need hot water (say for hot tea, oatmeal, coffee, soup) there is a hot water dispenser in the hospitality room in the lobby. In the lobby there is also "gas station" snacks, but you'd be better off going across the street for snacks or gas station down the street.
Our TV did not work, No Signal message on TV. So we just watched YouTube or Direct TV on our phones.
There is much potential here, but most likely management will not renovate due to employee housing doubling up as guest rooms, too. However Snowshoe is one of the best mountains around for skiing and booking here is last resort. It's still worth it, though if you live in surrounding areas like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Indianopolis, Richmond, Lynchburg, out to a 5-hour...
Read moreStarting with the good:
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was huge, especially for the price. This was an apartment not a hotel room or suite. Easily fit 6 people and looks like you could add an adjoining room for more beds. 2 bedrooms, full kitchen and dining room. Ample pantry space and an apartment sized refrigerator. Full stove with glasses, dishes etc. There was a 6 person table and chairs along with bar stools at the kitchen counter. The room had a jacuzzi complete with jets. Both bedrooms were very large. The windows were huge, allowing for a very open feeling. A tv in each bedroom as well as the living room. The living room had 2 couches, one large enough that an adult could sleep on it and the other a younger person. The unit had all new ac units.
The not so good:
For the most part, the room was pretty run down. Carpeting was wrinkled and presented a pretty significant trip hazard. The ceiling had obviously leaked in the past and the repairs were terrible at best. There was chunks of carpet missing from where the ac units had been changed. The fire sprinklers were installed and in many cases, not trimmed in properly. The jacuzzi tub was dirty around all the trim especially the wood on the back and side. Wall paper was peeling in several places. The furniture gave a not so clean feeling. The window in the living room had finger prints and filth all over as well as someone had spit a huge luge (sp) and it was left there to dry. I don’t see how cleaning could miss cleaning the windows after every use, not to mention leaving something as disgusting as this. They had a coffee pot,’coffee, cups, spoons 🤔 but no cream or sugar. This is a first for me. Never seen a hotel do this.
If they would clean up and do some repairs they...
