The Hotel Matador Bed & Breakfast, located at 1115 Main Street in downtown Matador, Texas, is worthy as a destination if you are traveling in the South Plains of Texas. Our group of ten men who had graduated high school together in 1960 rented the entire facility for a reunion over a long weekend in May 2025.
The Hotel Matador B&B is a converted hotel that was established in 1915 and has been tastefully remodeled and decorated. There is a large cozy living room great for getting together with friends or family and a nicely decorated and landscaped outdoor garden/shaded patio area for gathering or relaxing. I saw several of the bedrooms and they were spacious, spotless, and nicely decorated, each with its’ own theme and nightstand charging ports for your devices. The en-suite bathroom was immaculate, modern, and stocked with high-quality toiletries and fluffy towels. There is WI-FY throughout the building.
The highlight of the stay was certainly the plated breakfast served in the spacious, comfortable dining room on properly set dining tables. The meal was not your typical B&B breakfast. Our group was there three days, and each was truly a gourmet meal, topped off with freshly baked pastries. The meal was served on hot plates and delivered quickly so we could all eat at the same time. The portions were more than most of us could eat. Carafes of coffee, orange juice, and water were on each table.
Our hosts were the owners, Christian and Barbara Heim. Christian is a European trained pastry chef, a superb cook, and a super nice guy. Barbara couldn’t have been more attentive or accommodating. She went above and beyond to see that we were comfortable and welcome. We felt like we were visiting a friend’s home, rather than paying guests. Most of the guys are early risers, so Barbara had big coffee pots ready for us. One afternoon we were sitting out on the patio, and she brought out a large carafe of iced tea and cups for us, without being asked. Just so thoughtful of her.
Our group had a great time, and everyone was highly complimentary of the facility, the breakfast, and the exceptional service and hospitality. I highly recommend the Hotel Matador Bed & Breakfast to anyone traveling in that area of Texas, or if you just want a place to kick back and escape the crowds and hassle of big city life, this is the place. (Thus the five stars...

Read moreMy husband and I experienced the Hotel Matador B&B just a few days ago. This visit was so enjoyable and what a sweet find this B&B is in the little town of Matador, TX! Barbara is "the hostess with the mostest" in hospitality, graciousness, and service. Always ready to help, her main concern was that we felt at home and our needs were met. She met us at the door at our arrival and offered help with our bags and gave us a cool tour of this fascinating historical hotel, then led us to our room upstairs. Our room was comfortable with a nice king-sized bed and big tv mounted on the opposite wall, and had its own private bath. Back downstairs, the parlor was welcoming, where one could nestle in with a good book or conversation, then perhaps wander out into the adjoining courtyard, to sit under the strings of lights high overhead and enjoy the ambiance. We went out to eat - Barbara had provided the names of the local options - then came back to the Hotel for the evening. The next morning we were looking forward to the wonderful breakfast in the dining area at 8:30, so we got ready and headed downstairs. Oh, my! Barbara greeted us, poured OJ and hot coffee, and soon brought forth an absolutely wonderful breakfast! - We invited Barbara to sit and chat (we were the only ones there that morning) and oh what a wonderful time we had, sharing stories and hearing the cool cuckoo clock chirp from time to time. If you are ever in the Matador area and need a place to stay for a night or two or ten, you will surely enjoy the Hotel...
