We arrived at the Gateway Inn expecting a room with either a balcony or veranda with 2 double beds. We arrived late at 9 pm. I put on my reservation I could not do stairs due to a torn hip muscle. I entered the hotel to "find" the office and had 3 slightly high steps. I took 5 min to get up them. I had called the hotel about 20 . min. before arriving telling them who I was and on my way. I was told that they do have an elevator, however I would be down the hall on the first floor. Room 112. When we got into the room it looked clean, but very sparse. We found a tiny clothes rack about 15 inches long for our clothing. There was no coffee, or pot, glasses, cups. One bottle of shampoos for 3 to share. 2 bars of soap. Small Kitchen towels for hand towels. If that was not bad enough, the sheets were so small they barely covered the bed. That was both fitted and top sheets. The fitted sheets kept slipping off and rolling up in the night. The pillows were abut 10 years old, very lumpy and flat. I asked for 2 more pillows hoping to get some comfort, but no they were the same. The mattress were blue stripped cloth from at least 20 years or more ago. They had ||cotton fill and metal square type springs. We could feel every one. We were told this was the only room available when I booked. We have pictures to prove all we ||said. Later in the night I found the glasses on a tiny bathroom sink. Nasty place for 2 drinking cups. The ice bucket was on a tray by the tv. It had no lid to cover it from ||dust, or dirt or anything else. The glasses could have been placed on that. We bought bottles of water from the desk because we couldn't find the glasses till in the night. My daughter 37 paid for a roll away bed because the beds were so old the size does not meet the full size of today. My husband and I slept in separate beds. I should say tried to sleep... Her bed was so bad the mattress would fold down in the middle. ( she only weight 140. lbs. ) She finally got into my bed, since I was up at 2:30 trying to shower to ease my headache from the pillows and no rest on the bed. I sat up from that point in a straight back chair til we left. It was the worst bed and night sleep ever. YET THE HOTEL HAD A 4.5 CUSTOMER RATING ON YOUR SITE. I believe someone in the local area, a worker, or someone else has to be turning in false info to you about this place. They also advertised a hot breakfast.||LOL Toast coffee and granola is not a breakfast. its a snack!!! I made the complaint at the desk. I am talking to my lawyer and trying to get a refund. My husband put it||best. "THIS IS LOWER THAN A MOTEL 6". We have paid $98 for other hotels and never have we seen such low quality. The health Dept. will be notified of the mattress, but I fear they are friends with the owner to even be allowed to have such old things. The blankets were torn and stringing, one as that could wrap around ones neck. The sheets were stained. We noticed this when we stripped the beds as we were leaving. A nonsmoking room, with cigarette burns in the bed spread. The ||think that really grossed me was an open half used box of kleenex on the toilet. No telling who touched and used them.... No way was it sanitized. The other hotels have a new box or the under counter dispenser so you do not touch the box. Yet, the owner had beautiful puzzles for sale all over the walls everywhere. They need to purchase beds and linens instead. Never will we stay there again.||Connie Rarrick||Jared...
Read moreVery nice little Inn, lady at the desk was super sweet and helpful. The reasons I'm not giving 5 stars are: •there were hairs on one of the pillows •The cart they have to carry in luggage is tiny and hard to use •The hot water in the breakfast area seemed to have a few coffee grounds in it which was just enough to flavor the water and ruin any non-coffee drink you want to make with it •The "mountain view" is one mountain you can barely see through the trees (that picture is as far as I could zoom in) •And they have no awning to pull under so if it's raining when you load/unload you get soaked •The doorknob on the hotel room does not lock automatically AND if it's locked and you turn the doorknob from the inside it will unlock it from the outside. That'll keep you from getting locked out, but if you don't notice and don't lock it your door is easy to get in for anyone else, which as a woman, is rather terrifying
Otherwise it's a very nice place, great...
Read moreWe booked this room for 2 nights while visiting my parents in town. They allowed our Golden Retriever with no extra fee. We got the double room with no mountain view or "deck". Small table, 2 chairs, 2 beds, TV and a shower. Basic stuff. No microwave or mini fridge. The form at the desk says non smoking rooms but our room reeked of cigarette smoke and the hallways smelled of cigarettes, pot and bad decisions. (Cozy but sketchy) Complimentary breakfast is toast, coffee, pop tarts and granola bars. I booked through Expedia in July and they could not find my reservation because they "hadn't pulled the online reservations". They had plenty of rooms so I was able to get the same price. Overall, we basically just slept there so we didn't need anything fancy so it served its purpose. Oh yes, the AC worked really well! If you want a view of the Mt Katahdin, you will need to book the 2nd floor rooms with the "deck" Even so, the trees are...
