This campground promotes a hostile and unsafe environment. This campground caters to the seasonal campers. If you read the other posts, you will also see the issues this campground has. It took me a while to write this review. But after reading all the other post, I decided to write it. First if you notice, there are no responses from the owners on any of the reviews. There are a lot, I mean, a lot of seasonal campers that keep their spot all year. We picked this campground so that we could hike Baxter State Park, the beginning of the AT and it had great Verizon service. We were told that it was adult weekend and that the only rule that did not apply was no quiet hours. Also the owner was very adamant, no kids. We arrived on Thursday. Our first impression was that this was a beautiful park. Our space was very packed down gravel level spot with plenty of room. On Friday a camper pulled into the spot next to us. One of the responses from this camper was, “the only difference this weekend is that there will be karaoke and a dance”. There were several groups of seasonal campers that brought younger kids. The campground filled up, my husband and I walked the campground and several different groups of the seasonal campers welcomed us. They were very friendly. Some invited us to party with them. One group of seasonal campers were playing beer pong. My husband and I was invited in for a shot of fireball. There were decorative banners and posters of female private parts, men private parts, and female doing sexual services to a guy hanging. After dark we attended the karaoke. There was a very drunk guy that kept pestering me about dancing with him. I basically told him no. I did not want any controversy or incident to happen. After we left the karaoke, we walked back over to the previous group that was playing beer pong. The group had a contractor telescoping light extended and blasting the whole area with light. They had erected a circus tent. The music was very loud. We met a guy that was a previous member of the motorcycle group called the outlaws. If you don’t know who the Outlaws are? Look them up. Maybe he still was one. He sported their tattoo and also responded that he could get us escorts by the outlaws or anything that we needed. After a while a male gay couple walked up. My husband and I befriended the male gay couple. After about an hour and more partying and drinking, the tattooed motorcycle guy started gay bashing the gay couple. It was very offensive, and my husband felt that it might become unsafe for us to stay there. However, I was gone to my campsite with one of the gay guys to get him a drink. Upon return I was asked to go get the other gay guy to let him know what was going on, feeling that something terrible might happen. I was directed to a popup camper. I knocked on the door. The boyfriend of the owner of the camper on that site opened the door. They were doing pot in the camping and maybe something else. The guy was very loud and obnoxious. This person immediately proceeded to get in my face, and I was knocked to the ground. I said to the guy several times that all I was wanting to do was talk to the gay guy. My husband came over when he heard the commotion. There was an altercation. My husband was knocked to the ground. Next thing there was a group of people surrounding us. The owner who was parting and drinking with them came over and immediately asked us to go back to our campsite. The next morning my husband went to talk to the owner but he basically didn't care. We packed up and left. I did not want to be in this type of environment. We will not ever come back to this campground. I can give you my opinion, but I don’t think that is needed. You can just...
Read moreWe came to this campground on our way back from Old Orchard Beach, we were making our trip back home a little less longer by camping along the way and this was a childhood campground my wife stayed at a few times with her parents, so we booked it.||At an initial glance the campground needs some TLC. The pool deck could be a little more inviting with some lounge chairs and could also be cleaned up. It is a pool surrounded by pavement. The basketball court could be leveled and a little bigger. The kids playground could be weeded and updated a bit, maybe a bit more shrubs added or a fence around it. Internet is available but disconnects quite a bit so it isn't reliable to use. My wife on check-in noted a sign that indicated it was recommended to put your water heater and fridge on propane so you aren't responsible for causing a mass power outage throughout the campground. There is also a $3 additional fee per day, if you use your air conditioning (but I think they automatically work that into your stay). There was also a note about, if the backflow valve was missing on the water connection, you would be charged but mine only had a ribbon and no backwater valve, so I'm not sure what will happen. As my wife was telling me these items, I was unhitching the truck and I paused and asked, do you want me to hitch back on and we leave? We decided to stay.||Overall its not the worst campground I have been at and the seasonal folks are very welcoming. If you stay in site 39 - you are close to the pool and the playground but all guests/seasonals use your front lawn as the main pathway, one person even used our parking spot in front of our camper as her spot to sit and read (random but whatever)||There is an Arcade but most machines either snag an extra quarter or required more money than what was actually displayed. We left a day early (simply due to it wasn't for us - we put in 3 days and that was long enough) and at no fault of the campground but the person in site 40 didn't have their pooper hose securely in so there was a small air gap and when everyone dumps it stirs the smell which caused our site to be engulfed in a $hit smell, it was unbearable I was never so happy to leave and my wife noted one other camper sped out the previous evening.|We camped at Katahdin Shadows Campground in a...
Read moreThank you so much for helping us out at the last minute with a site that would accommodate our special needs daughter after Abol Bridge Campground Owner REFUSED to so much as reply to email/return phone call/come meet in person at store :( Your staff is very friendly and welcoming.||The campground is well kept and very clean. We stayed on Site 44 which was a nice end pull they with lots of room. Seasonal camp sites are along back edge of pull thru sites but their site are also well maintained and campers were respectful of others. Pet friendly which was nice as we are traveling with our 5 month old, 70 lb Newfie for the very first time. Small pool area and adjacent playground/basketball court. They have weekend activities and some are geared towards giving back to community/local Shriners :)||Area around campground is ABSOLUTELY breathtaking. If your willing to brave the off the grid, mostly logging, back roads, you won't be disappointed. The Katahdin Loop is quite the adventure if you have the proper vehicle. Just make sure before venturing in that the loop is open as its closed during certain periods of the year. It is VERY bumpy and not paved so also make sure your vehicle is able to withstand it. We tracked a moose during a portion of the 16 mile loop but sadly never spotted it.||Definitely the best part of our visit was the Golden Road moose hunt.....we saw our 1st Bull Moose just past cutoff for Five Pond Trail. Mosquitoes are CRAZY out there which kept us from really trekking through marsh but it was all worth it!!! ||Highly recommended Katahdin Shadows Campground if you enjoy the peace and quite of a smaller campground.||Thank you for a...
