If you like to fish for trout, this long narrow, relatively shallow lake just below Lake McLure is the place to go. Camp grounds, both basic and with full hook ups are available at a very reasonable rate. And the newly built cabins are set to open soon. There is a swimming beach and playground for the kids, and pets are allowed. There is a small marina, with boat rentals available during the summer season. McSwain has a 10mph speedlimit on the water, so your fishing isnt being ruined by boaters speeding by. Lake McSwain is nestled in the foothills just above the small town of Snelling and is parr of the Merced Irrigation System. Reservations arent required, but advised. The lake is now being stocked from Calaveras Trout Farm with beautiful fish up to 7lbs. A recent trip netted 4 nice Rainbows, all over 3lbs. Best to fish this lake when...
Read moreWeekday trip. Nice and quiet... Kinda weird, we had reserved spot someone thought it was ok to take it because they liked it better than their spot. Well we did let them keep it and took theirs. If the other wasn't comparable we wouldn't of agreed. But supposed the next person does the same. No way to hook up another adapter.. so no water for the rest of the nearby sites. If you want full hookups get one of those sites, plenty available.. Bathrooms were good as we're showers. Clean, but campground was practically empty. They do need to put some trash containers around loops. The only trash was a ways away at...
Read moreBeautiful Lake. Floating obstacle course was legit. Nice areas for just swimming. Cabanas can be reserved. Getting everyone's waiver signed took way too long. It took at least thirty minutes to finally get into our cabins. Cabins we reserved for two days were like the Abode compact homes. AC power was EXCELLENT. Cons: too many spider webs. Too many flies and mosquitos. Kids please wear life vest. Adults keep an eye on it children. Animals are not allowed in cabins. Outside patio area was convinient to keep the dogs at bay. CAUTION SMALL DOG OWNERS: BE CAREFUL IF YOU OWN SMALL DOGS. THERR ARE EAGLES, HAWKS, BIG CATS, TO NAME A FEW. in this wonderful family trip being my first camping / glamping trip allowed me to learn that I am not a camper girl. I love my ac wifi and cell...
