I like "quirky". I realize that "quirky" is not everyone's "cup of tea". The exterior of Motel Boutique by Wolf Inn is, by any standard, "quirky". There are many posed mannequins on the lawn areas -- mostly dressed in western garb, doing various goofy activities. There are also wolves and there is even a skeleton. You can see photos of some of these artistic scenarios in other reviews. So, at first glance, this motel seems like it would be right at home if it were located on Route 66. A roadside attraction. For me: that's a good thing. But-- there is bad news, below.
The motel consists of two large buildings, plus a large building that may or may not be a restaurant. (It is obviously closed.) The motel is located with broad fields on either side of it, not near any stores or eateries (to my knowledge). The location is just off of the I-80/ I-90 highway -- which is very convenient for a traveler who wants to just get into a motel room quickly without having to navigate city streets and hidden driveways. It is prominently visible along the highway location of SR-250. So, that's all the good news.
The bad news: This motel is quite a dump -- but, not the worst place I've ever stayed in. You will be disappointed, but you won't be grossed out. It is obviously independently--owned, not part of a chain. (I always like to stay at non-chain places if I can. )
The quirkiness factor remains admirable on the outside, but the rooms themselves are a disaster, and quite disappointing. Looks like they have not been updated since 1970. Carpeting is torn, ceilings/walls have obvious repairs (or need repairs), the doorknobs are operated by keys and they lock automatically when closed, the doors have heavy-duty door-closers, without any way to hold the door open (easy to lock yourself out). There are no wall hangings of any sort, no artwork, no jokey stuff, nothing for decor. The amenities: a small refrigerator, a small microwave, a 30" flat screen TV (a post-1970's touch, that). The TV has basic cable, gets about 40 channels, gets CNN. Also, a coffeemaker (who would ever use that?)
The beds are OK -- not great. Mine was a bit soft for me. Can't say if they are all like that. Look out for possible back-aches for those who cannot tolerate soft beds. The pillows are razor thin. Surprisingly, there are NO BLANKETS! Just a sheet and the very thin bedspread (with wolf "logo") that has probably never been cleaned. Also -- this is the most unusual thing -- NO HEAT! There is a through-the-wall air conditioner in each room, but it is AC only. There is no source of heat in the rooms! It was warmer outside than inside (early April, 2024). I have to assume that this motel (or, at least, this building) is closed during the winter. Luckily, I had my sleeping bag in the car. I used it. Because it was so cold inside the room, I decided not to take a shower. There were some old-ish bath towels and wash cloths. The hot water at the sink, where I washed my face, did not get very hot. So-- that may indicate how the shower would have been.
In SUMMARY: Do not stay here, unless you really want to experience the low end of motel culture. If the owners decided to update the rooms, bringing them up to a minimum standard, the place would have promise. Any of the low-end chain motels would provide a much higher-end and preferable stay, but without the "quirkiness". I would not stay here again -- unless I found out that the rooms had been...
Read moreOk, first off. We come to the area frequently. We have stayed at many of the hotels/motels and air bnb's in and around Sandusky/Milan/Norwalk and surrounding areas. This motel set vacant for a long tims before Wolf Inn took it over and breathed some life into it.||We have talked about staying here a few times, just because we have had our unplesant fair share of roadside motels.. we never bit the bullet until last night. Our budget this time coming over was in a bit of a bind... However slightly surprising to us, for as long as this motel was vacant, it is in decent shape for its age. This is an older facility and would never compare it to a big box or chain hotel.||The front check-in lobby looks like it has been remodeled. The staff was pleasant and they were nice and curtious . ||We stayed in room 145. Our room had that kind of musty smell that you get from going into a basement of someone's home... but quickly faded to nothingness. Our room had a king-size bed. 2 night stands a chest of drawers and 1 straight chair, with a stain on it, and one sitting chair. Microwave tv and fridge. Our room also had a heart-shaped jacuzzi in it as well. Our bathroom was stocked with toiletries and extra toilet paper. A broom and a plunger. We had just enough towels for 2 people but only 1 washcloth. We just used one of the hand towels for an extra cloth. ||My husband said he found 2 small rollie pollie bugs in the bathroom, but we never saw anything else. Nothing that would raise any concern. ||I always check my beds and drawers for any types of bug issues. The bed was clean and bug free. The only thing that concerned me with the bed was that there were layers of bedsheets on this bed. 3 fitted sheets were on this bed. Now, i dont know if this was to add comfort to the bed or to help save time cleaning. All i know is that it seems a bit scetch. ||The bed comfort for me personally was uncomfortable but tolerable. My husband said he liked it, though. ||My biggest complaint is that there are no curtisns to block out the light from the outside. Just blinds... so if you are someone who can not sleep with lights on. You'll need an eye cover. So, if management at this location ever sees this, please consider adding curtians!||And for those who need absolute quietness, you can hear sound from the highway. Both from the toll road interstate and from the state highway. You can also hear trains from the railroad nearby. Again, it isn't loud and is tolerable, just a warning for n those who want it a...
Read moreHEALTH CONCERNS! BEDBUGS! DO NOT STAY My family and I got off the road at about 11pm from a long trip. Check in went great but that was the ONLY good thing. We were supposed go stay in room 24. I don't EVER share poor reiviews, but this is a MAJOR health concern! Coming up to the door there was what looked like bullet holes! Opening the door we were hit with a damp, urine smell. The carpets were filthy with burn holes and damp, bedding had burn holds, hair and pubic hair all over the sheets and pillows. The box springs and mattresses were filthy like they had been pulled out of a dumpster and one was covered in what looked like blood. Pillows could hardly be called pillows, they were incredibly flat. The bathroom was a wreck, dirty, water in tub leaked, you couldn't turn it off, door was falling apart, toilet was not secured, door stop was rusted to death and falling odd the wall. There was an abundant amount mold in the bathroom and around the AC unit, which you can definitely smell and it gets worse. BED BUGDS! My daughter had them in her purse and they scattered when she moved it, checked beds and yep! BED BUGS!... we immediately got out, put our stuff in the back of our truck and had to find other accommodations. We were there for less than an hour. Ive stayed in places all across the country & out of the country, this takes #1 as worst ever!!!! Please spare yourselves. This is a MAJOR...
