This 6-year-old hotel was previously owned by BOULDERS. During my latest visit, the hotel was "under new ownership"---therefore, the name change. I "fell in love" with this lodging when it was first built & it still "looks shiny & new"!!!!! The sleek, simplistic furnishings & stylish carpet choices are easy to keep clean & more than adequate. The Keurig coffee maker was a new addition. I LOVE the rolling, vinyl-covered desk chair---you can move it to any location you want it. The HUGE, spacious closet is fantastic---plus, there is tons of room ON TOP OF IT---to place a cooler, extra bulky items, kids toys, etc. THE BEDS ARE AMAZING & the pillows "aren't bad" either!!! I love the idea of "thick, pull-down blinds only"---NO CURTAINS!! The refrigerator is concealed & sizable & the microwave is a plus!! EVERY HOTEL should have BOTH!!!! The "shampoo/conditioner" dispenser on the wall of the shower was great---no "messy" bars of soap!! The shampoo makes a TERRIFIC BODY WASH, also!!!!||The "eating/meeting area" on the main level is easy to maintain. I LOVE that the "eggs are in a round patty"---you can make an "EGG MCMUFFIN", if you wish. The UTENSIL DISPENSER is awesome---no more "digging through a basket" for your knife, fork, or spoon.||Check-in & out was handled efficiently by the friendly staff. I particularly enjoyed visiting with 2 members of that staff on one of the afternoons of my 3 day/2 night visit. My brother & I LOVE THIS PLACE & I know we will return in the future!!!!!||My ONLY COMPLAINT---& it is a "minor one"---the TV could BE BIGGER!!! THANKS for an overall "enjoyable...
Read moreWe enjoyed our recent stay at the Okoboji Inn and Suites. If I were rating the staff, I would give them 10 stars - they are so helpful and welcoming. Overall it was a great visit, but just a few things to mention...||||Pros: ||- It's a smaller facility, and when we were there it was very, very quiet. We loved that||- They have a wide variety of games and outdoor activities (corn hole, outdoor jenga) that my kiddos enjoyed. The fire pit was also a hit!||- The hotel is close to a walking/running trail. You can access this just behind the building and it made for a wonderful start to our mornings.||||Cons:||- The mattresses are a soft pillowtop variety. As a family who loves more medium firm mattresses we didn't really enjoy this, but mattress feel is so subjective that I wanted to mention it. ||- The "suites" have a sitting room open to the beds, just FYI if you're looking for a door. We solved this with a simple tension curtain rod and a curtain for some separation.||- There were stains on our carpet and the couch in our suite had some tears/taped damage. Just FYI if you're looking for a perfect appearance in a hotel. ||- The breakfast is very carb heavy (waffles, toast, bagels, cereal). I think the yogurt and hard boiled eggs in the fridge were the only items not super carb heavy. Just FYI if you're hoping for protein at breakfast.||- There are only stairs to access the second floor (no elevator). We didn't mind, but if you have mobility issues be sure to request a first floor room.||||||Overall it felt clean and was comfortable for out stay. And that staff!! They are...
Read moreI had the privilege of staying at the Boulders Inn this past Saturday. It was a surprisingly nice hotel! Sometimes I am reluctant to stay at a location that isn’t a chain, especially when I am going to be staying in a smaller town. Too many times I have been stuck in a drive up motor inn with signs that say things like “please do not skin deer in the parking lot” or “do not use towels to clean boots” or other scary warnings, but I had no reason to worry. This place had it all, from super soft beds and a spacious room to a comfy lobby with a fireplace and board games. The hotel staff was pleasant and accommodating, they had a full hot breakfast, plenty of parking and a workout room. It had another one of my favorite things as well… peace and quiet! You need a key to get in the building at night and at no time was I woken by kids running and screaming in the halls. This hotel also had one of the things I appreciate most as a traveler, the sink and mirror were outside the bathroom. Not sure if everyone agrees with me on this one, but it is so nice to have that, especially if you aren’t traveling alone. You don’t have to worry about the mirror fogging up, and one person can shower while another can shave, brush their teeth or put on make up at the same time. It’s a true time saver and makes a huge difference. Plus, it had all the components that make a comfortable stay… plenty of towels, coffee maker in the room, nice television. If you are ever in northwest Iowa, this is definitely the place to stay for comfort and...
