We camped 4th of July weekend 2020, 3 adults and 5 kids. The campsight was nice and clean, very pretty scenery and about 10 minutes from the river. The bugs and flies were pretty bad and my son got a deer tick on him, so prepare accordingly. The water was very low, maybe ankle depth, (+ posted) so no swimming. The "bath house" was the biggest issue... the family restroom/shower was out of service and there is only ONE shower in each restroom (1-Mens/1-Womens) You had to push the button, water would come on for 5 SECONDS, (the kids timed it), and each time you continued to push the button, the water got hotter and hotter to the point where you couldn't stand in it. There were signs posted for no alcohol and fireworks, but we saw people walking around with beer in their hands and big fireworks were set off until 11pm. You have to drive about 10 minutes into Marienville to get firewood, ice or cell service. We saw lots of wildlife over the weekend, deer, turkeys, a raccoon, birds and butterflies, toads and tadpoles. I wouldn't recommend this campground for families.

Watch out when booking sites! Check the map online. Campsites on the right on map are on a hill and if you have a larger camper may be difficult to get into....depending on the clearance of your undercarriage and also because there are drainage culverts on either side of the road, making it difficult to angle and back up any larger rig. The sites at the bottom of the hill are easier to access. On your map they would be the ones to the left....sites 27-38. My favorite was 27...the most private, furthest from the road and easy to back into. There is a dammed pond area across the road with rest rooms and showers. It is picturesque. I did not use the vault toilets while there but did see some people come to clean them. There is a lot of road noise.

We spent a weekend here at campsite #4 in the upper loop. It was nice a secluded! We had plenty of space to comfortably fit our tent, canopy, along with having our truck parked close to us. We couldn’t see our neighboring campers at all, so you truly feel as if, you’re secluded in the woods. The bathrooms were right behind us, which was super convenient (they were nice and clean).....but also a little smelly at times. Once we had a fire going, you wouldn’t know they were there. There was some traffic, from other campers, coming to and from the bathrooms. But overall, would definitely camp here again! Downside was the shower house was a little weird. But hello you’re camping! It’s not supposed to be glamorous, the nature around in the area has all the glam you’ll want to see! (but there’ were outlets inside, so if you felt like doing your hair, you could!) This campsite wasn’t too far of a drive, from cooks forest either. Tons to explore! If you’re ready to unplug from society, and have no cell service for the weekend, then I...

We stayed at site 10 in the upper loop, which was a very private and decently spacious tent site. Most of the upper loop campsites are very secluded. There was really no one around at all at this campsite. We saw maybe 2 other sites occupied at any given time during our stay We never saw a ranger, and did not see a host at the lower campsite. There were deer in the park and we came across a rattlesnake in the road. Fortunately, we were in the car.

There is a bit of cell phone service that comes in and out, and service is fine around site 9. As others have said, the campsite does seem to be somewhat forgotten. The vault bathrooms smelled horrible, but were superficially clean. The last date on the sheet posted outside the bathrooms was over a month old. I imagine that is when they were emptied. However, there are nice bathrooms with flush toilets and hot showers down by the picnic and dam area. The beach was closed the 5 days were were there due to "high bacteria".

Overall, the campsite is pretty and tranquil, but needs a...
