DO NOT CAMP AT KOA LAKE MILTON/BERLIN. This campground makes KOA look bad. The owners are the rudest people ever. Check in went ok but the staff/owner didn't lead us to our site like ALL KOA's we have previously stayed at. Once we were all set up the man owner came over & made us switch our electric hook up - even though we were on the correct one to start & he had to supply the extension cord for us because our cord wasn't long enough. (Which he came and took from us at 9am on Sunday while we were starting to pack up...even though check out isn't until 11am... Don't worry, we weren't going to take it). The lifeguard (that YOU hired) told our kids that they only needed to wear life jackets when on the slides & in the deep end and NOT in the shallow end before the rope. Which our kids did & the owner came and yelled at them, they didn't talk to the parents (which we were there supervising), instead you yelled at children. There was an older child that had a mental disability that kept throwing all the kids off the back of the slide. Why didn't you take action on that even though your office was told about it? On the 2nd night when the guests next to us came in they had a large RV & the OWNER was there directing them & helping them. LOL - why didn't we get any help?? A little bit of discrimination going on there I see. We did accidently sang the wood gate & paid the $100 you asked. But...the women owner charged our card 3 times...3 - $100 charges which I didn't notice until Sunday when I got home. When I called to complain, she definitely doubted me, she called someone to confirm and called me back and said she was having technical difficulties when she kept swiping the card and said she would refund us the $200. Which I received 2 days after that. She simply didn't know what she was doing. One of the teenage workers tried to politely tell her how to do it but she didn't want to hear it. As for you coming & harassing us about being loud before the "quiet time"...you should probably get your signs right. One says 11pm the other say 12am and both times you came over before 10PM....10PM . I am sure the highway right next to us drowned out most of the noise anyways. Why didn't you say anything to the group behind us that was partying all night??? Oh, probably because they are permanent lots?? And as for you complaining about our spigot leaking and "flooding the neighbor". You are over exaggerating. We were filling up water balloons and you just happened to stop over (again) when my toddler was crying for me so- yeah, I left the water on for 2 mins. Sorry NOT sorry!!!We are most definitely NOT high maintenance like you told us (very rude coming from the OWNER)....for goodness sake it CAMPING. And YOU don't worry.... YOUR campground wont be missed!! Bathrooms suck also.Lots are a nice size but you have the highway right next to you so it is loud.Campers all around us were great. The permanent lot people even invited us over to play corn hole. If you like rude owners that pick on you and your kids and don't want to have a good time then Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA is the place for you!!! And if your kid is working here I would suggest they find another job :)If you are looking for a great KOA experience head over to Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA. It's AMAZING! Very friendly owners, beautiful/clean campground and many activities! I look forward to hearing the owners rude comments AGAIN!! To add to your comment below: I certainly am part of the "group" YOU BULLIED. If you "thought" about evicting us then why didn't you say anything to us? Oh because we weren't doing anything wrong. Don't worry, we will NEVER be back Client's like us? I don't even drink alcohol nor does my husband so don't assume. The kids driving our golf cart are 16, the just didn't have their ID on them. You could have approached the parents instead telling the kids you were going to take the golf cart and chain it to a tree. We all had on life jackets in the swim pond - you have your kids mixed up. What about the kid pushing kids...
Read moreWow!! We were looking for a permanent site on short notice this year and for years to come. We wanted a nice family friendly atmosphere that had activities for adults and kids throughout the season. We also wanted a place with unique, different ammentities. A place without a basic pool, arcade, and attractions far away. Also within an hour or 2 from home just in case of an emergency plus kids hate a long car ride.. After I searched and visited 8 campgrounds within a span of 4 days, I couldn’t find one that was level or differnt than the others. I am on disability and hills are really not an option because walking is difficult at times. I even visited other KOA’s north of Pittsburgh they were nothing I thought was spectacular or even clean, which is also a must. I am a very particular person as you can tell. I have to be organized, a little OCD I guess. Anyways, I gave up looking because I got frustrated. I gave up and figured this year of camping is not going to happen. I wanted what would be best for my family without sacrificing very much if anything. Well my wife felt my frustration and took it upon herself to start looking online for campgrounds. She didn’t search long before stumbling across this KOA at Lake Milton/Berlin Ohio. After looking at the website, scanning the pictures and details, plus reviewing the rules and regulations, then studying previous campers reviews and comments....I called and asked many questions. The owner Demi andwered all of my questions and was very informative, polite, and professional. She even mentioned that they are recently renovating because the campground is transitioning from a privately owned campground to a new KOA facility. Well, that there was the breaking decision to make an appointment to go visit the campground in person. The total honesty and integrity of the owner was my deciding factor. So we made our trip on a Sunday to this KOA. It ended up only an hour and 10 minutes from our house near Pittsburgh and very easy to get to. THAT was a great start to finding a permanent site. After getting to the KOA, we found the looks to be very well maintained and clean befire we even entered the property. There were signs stating their transition to a KOA and a security gate that has an intercom for visitors and an electronic scamning gate pass for residing campers. THAT was a plus too since we have kids. Gave a feeling of a secure place to stay. We went into the office and that is where I met Demi and her husband Feenando. Amazingly polite people. Not just looking for business and pressuring you to stay. They answere a few more questions and went iver the rules, regulations, campground map, along with ALL fees of the campground... upfront and nothing hidden. No surprises. Then our journey to explore the campground began. Fernando politely took us outside to a giraffe themed golcart and we were on our way. The main riads are one way and marked clearly for safety reasons. There were a few dozen permanent trailers and motorhomes all ready on site. Some in excess of $100k. THAT was a great sign...happy campers. Now, Before entering the main camping area, there is another gate. This is to reassure that you are aware of the speed limit and the safety of the campers, kids and access to activities. Now we are inside the campground, just what we wanted to see....obviously. We found that the pool area wasn’t a pool. It was a HUGE swimming lake with a beach, sandy setting with a tall inflatable rock climing slide, an inflatable climbing and jumping mound, an inflatable floating lounge, a waterfall mushroom in the shallow area and you can also bring your own rafts or inflatables. This was totally different and unexpected. It is also posted when it was treated with chemicals just like a pool with the date, chemicals, and what exactly was added and inspected...now THAT is awesome.. The pool ranges from a shallow end of entering at beach level to a roped off portion that indicates that you will be entering a deep end that gets to...
Read moreEDIT: Since the owner is calling some of my critiques of their insane rules exaggerations and lies, I have attached a picture of the rules they hand out at the front gate. You can be the judge. While these are online that doesn't stop their nickel and diming any less frustrating. I stand by my review 110%. Do yourself a favor and stay away.
EDIT 2: Just to highlight the absurdity of this rule, the owner is claiming they have no rules about 20 year olds requiring supervision. See picture, paragraph 6, and I quote... “The registered camper is responsible for the behavior of all persons occupying or visiting their site. After 10pm all children under 21 much be accompanied by parent or guardian when off site”. If they have no rules against this, then they might want to update the handout they give everyone.
If you are used to a quiet, serene camping experience to visit with family, or get away from the noise of daily life, this is not the camp for you. The highway noise from I-76 only a few feet away is deafening at all hours of the day. And while they do have lots of nice amenities like the swimming pond, they really lose their luster when you have to yell just to have a conversation with people in a small circle. Also they also will nickel and dime you like you wouldn't believe....
A small tent on a site with a camper is not allowed we had to pay $110 to get another site. A card key to leave during the day is a $10 deposit. They only have 220V hookups, but for $5 you can have an adapter to 110V. Swimming on the slide will be fun, after you rent a life jacket for $5. Staying until noon on checkout day is allowed for a small fee of $25. There's definitely a pattern of getting every cent out of you that they can rather than making an enjoyable experience.
They also have a list of rules that is as long as it is ridiculous. And they seriously enforce them. Children under 21 must be accompanied after 10pm (good luck telling your 20 year old they can't go to the bathroom by themselves after dark!). You aren't allowed to bring an axe to split wood. Carpets aren't allowed on the sites to preserve the "grass". (The sites are all just crushed asphalt that is not level and easy to roll an ankle on, I didn't see much grass.) and finally the site is limited to 2 adults and 2 children. So if you have 3 kids, I guess you have to get another site.
I still can't believe people pay money for staying here. I guess them being right next to the highway much more convenient for them to pull off...
